Chapter 2

The clock had struck a few minutes past 9pm.

Liam arrived at the gates of the Montenegro mansion, his usual time to pick up his wife and daughter.

This had been their routine since 7years ago after Morgana had turned 1.

His wife, Maya has gotten a job as one of the cleaners in the Montenegro House, though she did not live with them like the other maids did.

She worked but went back from home.

She had been employed by the Madam of the house, the wife of Mr. Montenegro, three years ago before her death.

Because she had been employed by their late house mistress, the head of the maids did not sack her as she paid her last respects to the late house mistress by not sacking any of the Maids nor housekeepers she had employed before her death.

Liam stood outside the gates for a few minutes, patiently waiting for his wife and daughter to show up. He had given her a call but perhaps she was too busy to answer. He waited patiently for her to finish and round up her task for the day.

Time passed and he gets frantic with worry. He attempted to enter the mansion but was met with a firm denial from the security at the gate.

He was not a guest and was not invited. Humble looking people like him were not allowed easily into the mansion, unless they had been invited by any of the house owners , he had been told.

Morgana was still hiding behind the car with all that had happened earlier replaying like a movie in her imagination.

She had been playing catch with Harrison, the son of Theodore. He had warned her several times never to go near his son because she was filth, but neither she nor his son ever obeyed him. Instead, his son always made her play catch with him in the evenings when he could not see them and before she went home with her mother.

Somehow she remembered every detail of the accident and they kept replaying. Genevieve getting gifted the car in the morning, the car that came screeching at her mother who has been changing the waters of the fortress like she has been instructed to by the head maid, Genevieve crashing into her. Her mother seeing her and smiling even though she was in pain and dying, her mother passing out. The way she held in her screams and tears when she saw Harrison's father switch off the lights, how she overheard the Governor asking his driver to dispose off the body, how Harrison stood behind her watching it all happen as well.

She heard her father's voice from the gate and runs out.

She was allowed out by the security since she was the daughter of the maid.

Liam stared at her as she came out alone.

"Where is your mother?" He asked but she did not reply.

" Where is your mother?" He asked again, this time his voice laced with worry

Morgana began to cry.

With a trembling voice, she narrated what had happened to him but he shoved them off, dismissing them as perhaps her narrative prowess growing from the movies she watched in the Montenegro Mansion.

She always narrated what happened in each of the movies she watched to him, so he did not take her serious.

Morgana's heart sank, her eyes swollen from crying. What else was she to say for him to believe her?

"Father you have to believe me,we have to call the police, we have to get justice for mother. Mother has been killed" she implored, her voice choked with emotion.

" I saw it with my own eyes. She was hit by the car. Mother... They have also taken her body away"

But her father wouldn't believe her, no , he did not want to believe her.

His wife couldn't be dead. She still had a long life waiting for her he thought. She wouldn't die and abandon him and their daughter.

Perhaps Morgana was acting or making things all up, he fought so hard to believe.

He took a peek throw the hole in the gate and he saw the damaged car, perhaps his daughter was telling the truth , his heart began to beat irregularly.

He asked Morgana to retell him what she did before which he did and he was lost in thoughts. The damaged car stood right in the middle of the compound near the fortress she had mentioned, perhaps she was telling the truth?

He began to hit at the gate calling on to his wife's name.

"Maya!!!" He screamed.

"Maya!!, I know you can hear me, I've been waiting for you, come out let's go home" he screamed on top of his voice but he was told by the security on duty to stop disturbing the peace of the environment unless he wanted to get arrested for being a public nuisance.

Recalling that Morgana had asked him to call the corps, he makes way to move over to his truck that was parked across the lane to get his phone so as to call them.

Before he could take another step, a sudden blow to the back of his head sent him crashing to the ground.

Stars danced before his eyes as the pain seared through his skull and darkness crept slowly to his vision.

"Morgana..........." He called out.

As he struggled to regain his consciousness, he heard his daughter's muffled cries and the sound of scuffling.

A clothe doused in a strong scent was pressed against Morgana's nose, causing her to slump unconscious in the arms of her assailant.

"Morgana.........." Liam managed to call out again before he succumbed to unconsciousness.

"Tie them up and bring them to the basement" Came an order.

It was Lukman.

He had gotten a call from the Governor on his way back after disposing off the body on the ocean.

Deep within him, he pitied the family that were about to be wiped out.

He pitied the young girl lying motionlessly on the floor as well.

She was too pretty to be born with this type of fate he thought.

But those sorts of pities were what he had spent the years he did with the governor vanquishing because they were not necessary.

He had killed alot of people for the governor's sake and on his word.

He would not dare go against them now that Marcus had become the governor of Montenegro.

He would stay by his side until he had earned enough to repay all his debts and pay for his daughter's chemotherapy treatments as well.
