I WAS GOING TO KILL THIS BOY

EVA's POV

I had vowed to keep my distance from Alex but destiny seemed to have different plans. I was sitting near Audrey’s tomb when I sensed that someone was in danger. I usually ignore such sensations. I believe in letting human beings sort out their problems themselves.

However this time the sensation was too strong. I decided to check it out. Following my instincts I reached Mt. Eros. I looked up to see what the danger was. I watched in horror as Alex hung precariously on the ropes. Then the ropes snapped and he fell.

In the heat of the moment I rushed and caught him in my arms. I felt drunk on his tempting fragrance. I bent down to inhale deeply but right at that moment Alex opened his eyes. Realizing my folly I immediately set him on his foot and darted away. Thankfully Alex hadn’t seen my face. It would have been difficult to explain my presence to him.

I stopped running only after I reached Dixonville. Eric and Emily were already waiting for me. I let out a sigh. Now I would have to explain everything to them.

“ Why did you go to save him Eva? Normal human beings especially females don’t go around catching people falling from mountains.” Emily reprimanded me.

“ I know Emily but I couldn’t think clearly when I saw him falling. The only thought prevailing in my mind was ‘ No, Not Him!!!!’ I had saved him even before I realized it. Don’t worry I left very quickly. I don’t think he even saw my face.”

“ Hmm… but be careful next time Eva.” I was surprised that Emily didn’t launch into her

two-hour lecture.

“ You have to go for taking admission to St. Normans’ tomorrow.” Eric said in a low voice.

Ahh. So this was the reason Emily was being lenient.

“ Tomorrow is Saturday though.”

“ I have talked to the principal. She has agreed to meet you at 4 o clock as she has some work in the college.”

“ Okay. This is going to test my patience at a different level. I hope I don’t run into Alex at least.”

The next day I got dressed elaborately. After all I had to play the part of a rich heiress. I dressed in designer jeans, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket. I threw on some quirky accessories and goggles for effect. I drove to college in my new BMW.

Coming to college on Saturday was a bad idea. The school playground was crowded. Some students had already noticed my car and coming towards me. I grit my teeth and muttered, “ SHOWTIME!!”

I stepped out of the car and walked towards the principal’s office arrogantly ignoring all the gasps, introductions, and comments. If it was a regular human girl she would have loved all this attention but as a vampire such attention could drive you bonkers.

I walked straight into the principal's office. She looked at me with distaste and muttered, “ Kids these days don’t even have the basic etiquettes. Have you never heard about knocking the door, girl?”

Her face turned beet red when I walked towards the chair and sat down saying, “ I have an appointment at 4 o clock.’

“ That doesn’t permit you to barge into my office and sit down without my permission. I am the principal of this college.”

She looked at me expectantly. She must have expected me to apologize. I just shrugged. This seemed to drive her on the edge. She looked into her notes and said, “ You are here for admission?”

I nodded my head.

“ I don’t want students like you in my college. I will personally ensure that you never get into this college.” She roared.

“ Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider it?” I said in an even voice.

“ Not even in my dreams.”

“ Then I will make sure you regret it,” I said in a saccharine voice and left. The look of disbelief on her face was worth the visit today.

I stormed out of the office and walked as humanly as possible to my car. As I drew near a gust of wind blew my scarf over my head and got entangled in my goggles. I took them off and disentangled it as slow as possible since thousands of eyes were on me. Then I opened the door but as I was about to get inside, I felt a hand on my shoulders. I took a deep breath out of habit. The sweet, tempting, fragrance made me aware of Alex’s presence. I controlled my emotions and turned around.

“ Thank you for saving me yesterday. Though I don’t know how you managed to catch me.” He said with a genuine smile.

My eyes widened though I regained my composure quickly. I was sure his human eyes must not have registered the surprise in my eyes.

“ I am already regretting it. So you might as well get lost. I know people like ‘you’ would never let a chance like this go. After all, when again would you get the opportunity to woo a rich heiress.” I said with as much arrogance I could manage.

I saw pain flash through his eyes. This made me want to take back my words but it was the best if he stayed away from me.

“ But… I only wanted to thank you.”

“ Okay!! Now you can get lost.”

I got into my car and drove away. I felt a pang of guilt as I saw his grief-stricken face in my rearview mirror. He bent down and picked something up. Why did it look like my phone? I kicked myself mentally for having dropped it. Then I sped away before he could think of catching up with me. I would just buy another piece of metal.

Eric and Emily were waiting for me at the entrance. They must have sensed my arrival.

“ So, The principal didn’t agree?” Emily fired as I got out of my car.

“ No, she seemed to particularly hate people like me,” I replied evenly.

“ Couldn’t you have behaved nicely for once, Eva?”

“ I was just playing my role. I was behaving exactly like a spoilt rich heir.” I said grinning.

The expression on Emily’s face turned ugly but before we both got into a huge word-battle Eric interrupted,

“ It’s okay Emily. I am throwing a party tomorrow. Mr. Miller, one of the trustees of the college has already called me up a million times. I will send him an invite and see how it works. Once I have helped him, changing the principal would be a piece of cake.”

“ That is great. It would be good to have someone we trust in college. Just in case…” Emily was satisfied with the idea.

Just then I sensed his presence outside the door. What was Alex doing here? He must have come to return the phone.

“ I am going to kill that Boy!!!” I growled. Eric and Emily were next to me in an instant grasping an arm each.

“ Take deep breaths, Eva. It will calm you down.”

“ Should I get you a drink.”

“ Close your eyes and think of the reason we abstain from killing humans.”

“ We have to maintain the utmost secrecy. Try to control yourself.”

These people got on my nerves at times. I took a deep breath and said as calmly as I could, “I was not talking about killing someone in a literal sense. So, Both of you can calm down.”

“ I was just irritated by the fact that Alex has come all the way here to return my phone.”

“ Yeah, you are right. I can sense him right outside the door.” Eric said.

“ The bell will ring at any moment. What will you do?” Emily asked wringing her hands.

“ You could let us open the door and take the phone,” Eric suggested.

I raised my palm and said,” let me think.”

I looked around the room trying to come up with a plan. The fire burning in the fireplace caught my eye. A moth flew towards it dazzled by the flame. It turned to ashes the moment its wings touched the fire. If the fire had managed to move back just by an inch the moth would have been saved.

The fire is not capable of maintaining distance but I can. His pain-filled eyes flashed before me and I felt a pang of regret but I had to do this. I couldn’t let Alex burn like the moth just because he wanted to come near me.
