Chapter 94

Sindy sat in the corner of the cold, dark old hut. Her hair was still messy, her face still pale, and her stomach had been growling since early that morning. She hugged her knees, trying to stave off the hunger and dizziness that kept overwhelming her.

“Anthony...” Sindy murmured softly, glancing at the door that was still slightly ajar. “You’re taking forever...”

The wind blew in through the cracks in the weathered wooden walls. The shack belonged to no one; they had found it the night before while fleeing toward the small forest on the outskirts of the city. Sindy only hoped this place wasn’t too far from the main road.

A few minutes later, Anthony appeared, panting. His hands held a small plastic bag containing food.

“Sindy, I brought some bread,” Anthony said, collapsing beside Sindy.

Sindy immediately grabbed the bread and devoured it without speaking.

“Slow down, okay. You’ll choke,” Anthony said, opening the mineral water bottle he had brought earlier.
