My heart hammered as the agents stepped fully inside, papers and tablets in hand.
“We received anonymous documentation alleging your involvement in insider trading and evidence tampering related to Smith Industries.” The man whose name was Randy said.
Liam’s jaw clenched.
“What the hell are you talking about? That’s impossible.”
“We’ll determine that,” Agent Randy responded.
He turned to look at me.
“Mrs Smith, we were told you leaked internal company emails to the press.”
“What!” I staggered back. “I did no such thing,” I swallowed hard.
“The agent's tone was measured. We have messages traced to your laptop madam.”
I felt the heat drain from my face. How did my laptop get in the middle of all this?
I turned to Liam, and he held my gaze with a warm look, I let out a quiet sigh.
When I finally managed to open my mouth to defend myself the agent cut in.
“Mrs Smith, for the record, are you aware you are a person of interest?” He asked
I inhaled shakily, forcing calm into my voice.
“I’ve not the slightest idea of what’s going on,”
We’d,” the agent began, but a strange man walked in and cut him off.
“I’ll take it from here man,” he said, giving the agent a light tap on the shoulder.
He looked handsome in his well-tailored suit that hugged his tall frame perfectly.
There was something about him, like he was in control without trying.
As soon as he walked in, the room felt different. He didn’t have to say much to show he was the one in charge.
He looked at me, and our eyes met for a moment before I quickly looked away.
“Mr Smith,” he flashed a badge, “I’m Agent Noah Blackwood from the FBI. My men and I are here to ask you a few questions.
“I understand the importance of cooperation.” Liam said calmly, “You may ask anything.”
He questioned Liam in private for a while. A few minutes later, they came out, and the agent signaled to me.
I stood up quietly and we walked out.
As soon as we stepped aside, I found my voice.
“Sir, I had..”
The agent gently cut me off, his tone warm.
“I’m so sorry you had to get caught up in all this. I know you’re not guilty of anything, I just need to ask a few questions. It’s standard procedure,” he said, meeting my eyes kindly,
I swallowed hard. How could he tell I wasn't involved?
“Why’re you so sure about that?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Bianca none of this is important, he blurted, and I cut him off.
“It’s Mrs Smith to you,” I said calmly. “And how on earth did you know my name?”
I blinked rapidly, trying to process.
My head spun. Everything was happening too fast, too loud, too strange.
He said nothing, he just stood there, calm, with his hands tucked neatly into his pockets.
“I’ll ask again, " I said, my voice firmer this time, breaking the heavy silence. “How did you get my name?”
He sighed quietly.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on you for sometime now,” he said calmly. “It’s part of the investigation, I witnessed everything that transpired at the gala night also, I know you’re not the villain,” he raised an eyebrow.
I stiffened.
“There's a lot you don’t know about the Smiths,” he added, his eyes locking with mine. “ I need you to answer a few questions.”
His voice softened. “You can trust me.”
Something in his tone, steady and warm, made the tightness in my chest ease just a little.
I gave a small nod.
“Are you ready?” He asked
I nodded again.
“Good, what has your marriage with Mr Smith been like?” He asked.
I raised an eyebrow, “What does my marriage have to do with anything?”
“Are you happy?” He asked, voice low but intense.
I swallowed hard.
“My marriage is perfect,” I snapped.
“If you say so,” he sighed. “Is there someone you think could be targeting the Smith family?”
I nodded, “None that I can think of,”
He gazed at me and gave a small nod.
“That’s alright, my team and I will stay in touch,”
He said, reaching into his breast pocket. He pulled out a card and handed it to me.
“Here if you find out anything, do not hesitate to call me, it’s always better to speak up first. I'd hate to see you take the fall for someone else’s crimes.
I stared at him, stunned.
“For God's sake, Mr..”
“Noah Blackwood,” he said gently, cutting me off. His eyes locked with mine.
I blinked and quickly looked away.
“Mr Blackwood, I appreciate the concern but I won’t be needing your card, nor would I be calling you,” I replied firmly.
“I mean no harm,” he said softly.
“I know that sir,” I responded.
“If you insist,” he shrugged. “A word of advice, be careful around these guys, there’s a lot you might be missing. We should get back to your husband now,” he said.
I stood frozen for a second, watching as Noah walked away.
He seemed calm and polite yet something about him felt mysterious.
Could Liam and Fredrick truly be hiding something?
The thought lingered, as I followed quietly behind.
We walked back into the house.
Noah Blackwood and his team left shortly after. Leaving Liam and me alone in the wide, silent living room.
Liam cleared his throat,
“What questions did he ask?” he said, facing the wall with his back to me.
“He asked about our marriage and if I knew anyone who might be against you or your father,” I replied.
“And what did you say?” He asked flatly, his back still facing me.
“I told him our marriage was perfect and that I knew of no enemies,” I said.
Liam turned to face me and my stomach knotted.
“I think someone’s trying to set us up,” he said, raising an eyebrow.
“Liam you have to believe me, I had nothing to do with the messages on my laptop. I would never do a thing like that.” I said.
He gave a small nod, arms folded across his chest.
“I know you didn’t,” he muttered. “You ain’t so stupid to make such a dumb ass move.”
I frowned at his words.
He always insulted me at every given opportunity.
I opened my mouth to speak, but just then, his phone rang, slicing through the tension.
He glanced at the screen, and his face grew pale.
BIANCAI woke up with a sharp ache pounding in my head, my eyes blinking open slowly as I stared at the unfamiliar ceiling above me.The sheets beneath me were soft, the scent of the room fresh but unfamiliar.I sat up quickly, realizing I wasn’t in our bed back at the mansion.I looked down at my chest to see that my blouse was slightly unbuttoned, and panic surged through me.“What the hell happened?” I muttered, gripping my blouse tightly.I looked around the room in a daze. There were pictures on the wall, portraits of Noah and a young woman. They looked happy, years younger.“Oh…” I mumbled, holding my head tightly.I recalled last night with Noah, when he had to bring me home to his apartment to spend the night. The woman in the portrait had to be his missing sister, the one he talked about last night. The memories of our conversation started piecing themselves back together through the fog of my hangover.I gasped, my heart skipping.“Wait a minute…did something happen between
NOAH“My little sister,” I sighed. “She went missing five years ago. Just vanished. No calls. No notes. One minute we were talking about her applying to art school, the next… she was gone.”I paused my throat tightening.“I was on assignment far away when it happened, was told she left work and no one saw her thereafter. I blame myself for not being there.” I sighed. “Every moment since, I’ve tried to find her. Every clue leads to a dead end. Sometimes I wonder if she just doesn’t want to be found.. But Lucy wouldn’t do that to me. Not without a reason.” I nodded slowly.Bianca’s expression softened, her own pain briefly forgotten.“I’ve sat with families like mine, people who live in limbo. I’ve seen the way it eats them alive. Now I’m one of them.” I continued. She reached across the table and touched my hand gently.“I’m sorry Noah, this must be so hard,” she whispered.I nodded slightly, swallowing the lump in my throat. “I guess we’re both looking for something or someone. Just t
BIANCAMy heart pounded wildly as tears spilled down my face while I looked at Noah.“It’s okay, shh… It’s okay, Bianca,” he said softly, pulling me into his arms.“I’m here now. I won’t let anyone hurt you,” he whispered, holding me tight. After a while, Noah insisted we go back inside the club. He made it clear he wouldn’t let me leave until I felt better.I admired how much he cared for me, something I desperately wished Liam could do.“What’s wrong Bianca?” Noah asked as we settled at the club, his eyes shining brightly under the blinking lights.I glanced up to meet his gaze, then quickly looked away, blinking nervously.“You can trust me. I’m here to help,” he said softly, his calm voice easing some of my tension.“It’s my marriage,” I whispered, staring down at the bracelet on my wrist. “Or rather, my husband.” A faint, sad smile crossed my lips.I’d just been hurt by one man, and here I was, opening up to another.“I knew it!” Noah said suddenly, lightly tapping the table with
BIANCAMy knees weakened, and I felt the air leave my lungs.I stood there, frozen, as the weight of his accusation crushed me.“Liam… I swear, I never wanted her to lose the baby,” I finally managed to say, my voice shaking as I blinked back the tears. “It was never my intention.” I gave a small, helpless nod, hoping he would believe me.But Liam’s face hardened. His eyes burned red with rage as he pointed a sharp finger at me.“Now you listen to me, lady,” he snapped, his voice loud and harsh. “From the moment you came into our lives, you’ve been nothing but complete trouble. It’s been one major disaster after another. I’m fucking tired.” He yelled.I trembled at his words, my breath catching in my throat. Was this really Liam talking? The same man who once held me so close and promised to love me no matter what?He shook his head in disgust and hammered on.“From now on, this marriage goes back to what it was, a freaking lie!. Just a stupid damn show for the world to see. Nothing m
BIANCAI froze, heart pounding, staring at Kira as she rolled down the stairs screaming.“Liam, I didn’t do anything to her… she grabbed me and.. and..” I stammered, my voice shaking.“Enough, Bianca!” Liam snapped.“How could you come here and hurt Kira? I told you I was gonna handle this. How could you!”“Liam, she invited me… she..” I tried to explain, widening my eyes, but Kira’s screams cut me off.“Liam! I’m dying! My baby.. someone please help me!” She cried out in pain, clutching her stomach.Without another word, Liam ran to her, scoooping her up in his arms.He carried her bridal style, panic all over his face, and with one last resentful look at me he rushed out to his car.I stood there frozen in place, numb and breathless. This wasn’t real. It just couldn’t be, I said inwardly as I gasped.Kira had just set me up.She invited me over and lured Liam to witness her falling. Her threats and warnings, all started to make sense to me now.She had planned this. Kira was going t
BIANCA.I glanced down at my phone and saw a message from Kira:“Bianca, it’s me. We need to talk privately. I’ve got a proposition, one that keeps us all happy and you.. happily married.”My heart skipped. What could she possibly mean by that?I looked up at Mum, who was watching me closely. For a moment, I considered telling her the truth. But then I forced a smile.“It’s just Dannie, nothing serious.”Mum’s eyes narrowed with concern. “Are you sure, honey?”“Yes, mum. I’m sure,” I replied, my voice calm but my mind racing. As I slipped the phone into my bag, I knew I’d made up my mind.I was going to meet Kira.Whatever she had to say.I needed to hear it.I came up with a quick excuse and hurriedly left Mum at the house. My heart raced but I tried to stay calm.As soon as I got into my car, I texted Kira back, letting her know I was on my way. A few seconds later, a message popped up on my screen. An address, a home address.I paused for a moment, uneasy.Something about it did
