Winchester studied his grandson with weary disappointment. He had expected this excuse—of course he had. Shaking his head, he said, “Son, learn to own your mistakes. And stop hurting the people you claim to love. I hope this is the last time you publicly humiliate Christy.”

Franklin held his gaze without answering. Winchester flicked his hand in dismissal. “You may leave.”

Franklin turned and walked out. The fury that had propelled him into his grandfather’s room had drained away, leaving only guilt. He crossed the drive, slid into his car, and sped toward Christy’s house.

It was late when he pulled up. He rang the bell. Then rang again. And again.

The door finally inched open. Christy appeared, saw him, and tried to shut it. He shot out a hand, stopping it against the frame.

“Please—just listen to me,” he said, voice tight, nerves strung thin.

She sneered. “What else is there to say? Haven’t you done enough? You insulted me, called me names, put your hands on me. Then you showed up a

Rex’s face fell, but he ignored Yukon’s jab and continued, “We’ve made some budgetary adjustments. It’s also wise to explore alternatives, so if we’re caught in a dilemma, we can quickly activate Plan B. And we should watch out for saboteurs—”“Who’s a greater saboteur than you?” Yukon cut in with a sneer. “Going behind people’s backs to castigate them. You’re the chief beneficiary of chaos.”Around the table, board members exchanged uneasy glances. No one dared whisper; the manager and the deputy were openly at each other’s throats.Rex turned to Yukon, weary of the constant sniping. “If you’re not here to help us move this project forward, you can leave.”Yukon reclined, wearing an easy, mocking confidence. “After hearing your presentation, I’m unimpressed. I’m saving this company from a loss. We will not accept this business plan as a working tool. It needs a redo—a thorough cross-examination—and a full market analysis before you bring another plan.”Rex’s patience snapped. “You ma

Yukon was so shocked he could only stand and stare at Allison and Rex. His chest tightened. He took a step toward them, thought better of it, then turned and walked away, his face knotted with anger. He drove home, collapsed onto the couch, and lit a cigarette, sinking into brooding silence. His jaw clenched, his eyes hardened. Eventually, he rose, went to his bedroom, and forced himself to sleep. By morning, the moment he was out of bed, he dressed quickly for work.At the company, he didn’t head to his own office. Instead, he went straight to Rex’s. He opened the door and stood there, staring in cold silence.Rex glanced up, lifted an eyebrow, and gave him an askance look. “What’s up, man?”Yukon slammed the door. Rex frowned at the display. Yukon crossed the room one deliberate step at a time, braced his hands on Rex’s desk, and narrowed his eyes.“Why are you acting like this, man?” Rex asked, his frown deepening.“Who is your girlfriend, Rex?” Yukon shot back.Rex didn’t flinch.

Rex spread his arms and said, “I wish you good luck.”He turned to head into his bedroom when Yukon asked, “Where are you going?”Rex shrugged. “To sleep, of course. I have to be in the office tomorrow, and I don’t plan on being late. You get it?”Yukon’s face tightened. He stood abruptly, anger flaring. “I hate the way you treat me. You know I’m heartbroken. Instead of consoling me, you’re just walking off to sleep. I’m starting to doubt if you’re even my friend.”Without waiting for a response, Yukon stormed out. Rex didn’t stop him or call him back; he simply watched as Yukon left and walked out the door.Yukon climbed into his car and drove off. On the way home, the video on Edna’s phone kept replaying in his mind. He couldn’t stop wondering how Allison had gotten it. Two possibilities nagged at him: either she had paid his gateman to get it, or she had walked in on him during the act—without him ever realizing it.His grip tightened on the steering wheel, his expression hardening

Allison had barely finished saying “Shut your mouth, Yukon,” when he doubled down, voice shaking with a confidence he didn’t feel. “That isn’t true. That’s impossible. You know I’d never cheat on you. You’re just—lying. If you don’t love me anymore and you’ve seen—”She refused to hear another word. Her hand dove into her handbag; the phone was out, her thumbs moving quick and sure. Then she thrust it at him.“Look.”Yukon took the phone with trembling fingers. The screen glowed. A video. His bedroom. Him and Edna. The blood drained from his face.Allison’s laugh was a blade. “Stop denying it. I watched you screw another woman in your own bed. I didn’t confront you then because I knew you’d never change.”His eyes darted, then hardened with a desperate idea. He deleted the video, and the guilt spilled out in a rush. “Allison, I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me. It was a mistake—I’ll fix it. I’ll call her. I’ll—”“Give me my phone,” she snapped. He held on, pleading. “Please. Th

Yukon dropped his threat, turned on his heel, and walked away. The housekeeper’s face remained expressionless—she didn’t even flinch. Calm as stone, she watched him leave in anger. He slid into his car and sped out of Allison’s mansion. By the time he pulled into his own driveway, he was muttering curses about Allison’s housekeeper under his breath.Inside, he found Edna sprawled on his sofa, scrolling through her phone.“What are you still doing here?” he asked, his voice cold.Edna stiffened, then sat up quickly. She rose to her feet, tense. “I—”“I’m not in the mood,” Yukon cut in, enunciating each word. “You come here when I ask you to. You stay if I say so. You don’t make decisions on your own. I don’t want my girl coming here and finding you. Leave, and come back only when I tell you to. Got it?”Though aggrieved, Edna nodded. “I’ll leave now.”Yukon turned away and stepped back outside, pacing the property to cool his boiling temper. He stopped at the flower garden—most of the

Edna’s voice crackled through the phone, raw with frustration. “You only call me when you’re horny, babe. I’m human. I have feelings too. I deserve to be lo—”Yukon’s patience snapped. “Are you coming or not? I don’t have time for this.”Silence. Then, softly, “I’m coming.”“Good,” he said, and hung up, cutting off the “Bu—” on her lips.He lit another cigarette and smoked while he waited. He showered, ate dinner, and checked the time. When Edna finally arrived—ten minutes late—he looked up, displeased.“What took you so long?”“I got stuck in traffic. I’m sorry, babe,” she said, her voice small.“Go upstairs and strip. I need to grab something from the kitchen.”Her face faltered, but she knew his temper too well to argue. She swallowed whatever she wanted to say, went to his room, undressed, and lay on his bed to wait. When Yukon came in, he found her there. He undressed without a word, climbed onto the bed, and they spent the night together. At dawn he woke, showered, and left a st
