CLING TO ANOTHER HOPE

Anne's POV

I read the message once. Then again.

And a third time—slowly, deliberately, as though the meaning might change if I lingered on it long enough.

I know you have suffered heartbreak and betrayal from a past marriage and relationship, but I promise to keep you and marry you. I love you with all my heart, and I won’t betray you. I give you my assurance. Even if you don’t trust me yet, give me a chance to prove it.

My chest rose with a deep inhale that felt heavier than it should have been.

This is how it always starts, a voice inside me whispered.Give me a chance. Trust me. I’m not like the others.

I closed my eyes briefly, the kitchen light blurring behind my lashes.

“This is how they begin,” I murmured to the empty room. “With promises. With certainty. Until everything collapses.”

Yet even as the words left my mouth, they didn’t feel solid enough to hold me in place.

I set the phone face-down on the counter and turned back to the stove, forcing myself in

REGRET Anne's POV “The will is gone,” he admitted. “The transfer documents too. She took them. Half of everything I built… legally hers now.”My heart skipped. “Michael, that’s—”“Unbelievable?” he finished bitterly. “I know.”For a moment, neither of us spoke. My anger, once blazing, had dulled into something heavier—something complicated.“You understand now why I’m calling,” he said softly. “If Greg completes the acquisition, I lose everything. My life’s work. My name.”“And you want me to save you,” I said.“Yes,” he whispered. “Not because I deserve it—but because you’re the only one who can.”I leaned my head back against the wall, staring at the ceiling. Images of the past flashed before me—pain, abandonment, tears I cried alone.“You hurt me deeply, Michael,” I said at last. “I don’t know if you truly understand that.”“I do now,” he replied. “Losing you was the beginning of my downfall. Losing everything else was the punishment.”His voice broke completely. “I’m not asking

SHE NEEDS ME NOWAnne's POV I reached home early because of the over-speeding I was driving the car. My thoughts are diverse, ranging from the pain, the various betrayal I had suffered. My hand gripped the steering wheel firmly as if my life depended on it. I had resolved in my heart never to give in to Micheal. Never! It is even late. I was married to Maxwell. He had been unfortunate, from the way I am looking at him, from the way he was apologizing, something bad might have happened to him, from the hand of that evil woman he asked Evie.I stopped the car in the garage and stepped out. I strode inside, with my bad mood. My mood had been disturbed but I tried very hard to adjust. I stepped inside the living room and slammed the door shut.“Honey!” I called Maxwell, my voice tender. “I'm back!” My heels clicked against the polished floor. As soon as I was about to reach the kitchen, to drop the few things I bought from the market before I went to the restaurant, Maxwell suddenly em

IT IS TOO LATE Anne's POV My footsteps echoed sharply across the polished floor as I headed for the exit, but Michael’s shadow clung to me like a stain that refused to wash away. Every step he took behind me reopened wounds I had spent years stitching shut with discipline, resolve, and silence.“Anne—please,” he called again, louder now, desperation stripping him of dignity.I spun around so fast my hair whipped across my face. The fury inside me erupted without restraint.“Do you ever stop?” I shouted. “Do you ever stop chasing what you threw away?”Heads turned. Conversations died mid-sentence. I didn’t care. Let them see. Let the world witness the man who once reduced me to nothing.“You maltreated me,” I went on, my voice trembling not with weakness but with suppressed rage. “You dismissed my voice, my pain, my worth. You treated me like an inconvenience—like a woman who should be grateful just to exist in your shadow.”Michael’s lips parted, but no sound came out.“You betrayed

PAIN THAT LINGERAnne’s POV.Eleanor’s lips trembled before she nodded.“Yes,” she whispered. “I aborted five pregnancies. Five. For him.”The words landed fully this time, not as sound, but as weight—crushing, unforgiving. My chest convulsed, and before I could stop myself, a broken sob tore out of me. I pressed my hand to my mouth, but the pain spilled anyway, hot and relentless.“Oh God…” I cried. “Oh God, my baby…”All the nights I had blamed myself. All the mornings I woke up hollow, convinced my body had failed me. All the silent prayers that had gone unanswered. It wasn’t my body. It was him. Crystal.“That evil man,” I said through tears, my voice shaking with fury. “That heartless, calculated, wicked man. He looked at me and smiled. He touched my hands. He slept beside me knowing he had already decided to kill my child.”My shoulders shook violently now. “He used medicine—the very thing meant to heal—to destroy me. What kind of monster does that?”Eleanor dropped to her knees

OLD FRIEND Anne's POV Marriage had softened some of the sharp edges of my past, but it had not erased them.Maxwell liked our weekends simple—quiet mornings, shared laughter, errands that felt oddly intimate because we did them together. That Saturday, he leaned against the kitchen counter with a boyish smile and said, “We’re out of foodstuff again. Let’s restock properly.”I laughed. “You say that every week.”“And every week, you agree,” he teased.I did. So I took the car and drove to the large grocery store on the edge of town, the one with wide aisles and bright lights and a way of making you feel anonymous among strangers. I welcomed the anonymity. Some days, peace was found in blending in.I grabbed a cart and pushed through the entrance, already running through a mental list—rice, vegetables, spices, toiletries. Normal things. Safe things. Then it happened. I turned an aisle corner too quickly and almost collided with someone. I froze.I saw her, Eleanor. Time seemed to paus

  • MY CRUEL HUSBAND    CHAPTER 59

GREEDY ACQUISITION Michael's POV I don’t know how long I lay there on the cold floor, surrounded by the wreckage of my own decisions. Time lost its meaning. Regret has a way of suspending the world, trapping you in a single moment that keeps replaying itself without mercy. Eventually, my body gave in to exhaustion before my mind did. I dragged myself to the bedroom like a wounded animal seeking shelter. The bed—once a place of comfort—felt foreign. Her scent still lingered faintly on the sheets, mocking me. I didn’t bother changing. I didn’t bother thinking. I lay there fully clothed, staring into the darkness, my chest aching with a pain no medicine could cure. Sleep came, but it wasn’t rest. It was heavy and suffocating. Filled with fragments of memories—Anne’s laughter, Evie’s lies, Greg’s name echoing like a curse. I tossed and turned, my heart racing even in unconsciousness, as if my soul refused to rest knowing what awaited me. Morning arrived without mercy. The alarm r
