“Mom, is dinner ready? I’m starving,” Seraphine called out as she walked down the stairs, the smell of chicken filling the air.

“Almost, honey. Just ten more minutes,” Emilia’s voice came from the kitchen.

Seraphine plopped down on the couch, grabbed the remote and sighed. She'd been so busy reading for her final paper that she had missed breakfast and lunch.

The exams had gone by in a flash. Like, literally. One minute Seraphine was stressing about back-to-back papers, the next minute she was down to her last one. After the whole Ezra-and-Ivy scene outside school, she had texted Ezra just one thing:

“I need space. At least until exams are over.”

She didn’t even wait for a reply. She just muted the chat and focused on her books. Ezra had obviously seen her text and he had given her the space she needed. Well thank goodness for that.

Seraphine flicked through the channels lazily.

Cartoons. Music videos. Some boring debate. A weird game show. Then she landed on a news channel—

  • MY DEAR REVENGE   CHAPTER 13

“Ughhhh…” Seraphine groaned, leaning on the sink as she stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. Her hair was still damp, her under-eyes dark from barely sleeping. She looked like crap, and she knew it.Today was the dreaded dress fitting. Tomorrow, they were all moving into the Hale Mansion for wedding prep.Ivy had made such a big deal out of it too. Apparently, all the bridesmaids’ dresses had been custom-ordered, along with her “one-of-a-kind, princess-core, super magical” wedding gown. But she refused to let anyone see them until today. The suspense was killing everyone—except Seraphine. She honestly couldn’t care less. After that café meet-up, her phone hadn’t known peace. Ivy had immediately dumped her into the most chaotic WhatsApp group ever: “Bride Tribe Squad”. Like seriously, who came up with that cringy name?Every single day, the girls spammed the chat with “Omg babe, can’t wait to see you again”, “Do you think Ezra will cry when Ivy walks in?”, “Let’s plan a spa

“That’ll be twelve bucks.”Seraphine dug through her bag, pulled out the money, and slid it across the counter. The cashier handed her the book she had previously picked out in a brown paper bag. She checked her phone real quick—1:10pm.Nice. She wasn’t too early. She walked out of the bookstore, the sun hitting her face, and made her way down the street toward Shera Café. The glass doors slid open, and the smell of coffee, muffins, and cinnamon smacked her straight in the face. The place was cozy, sunlight spilling through big glass windows, plants hanging from every corner, and soft indie music playing in the background. Her eyes scanned the room until they landed on her. Ivy Cruz. She was sitting right by the window, sipping on some latte. She wore a beige cashmere sweater tucked neatly into a black pencil skirt, a small Gucci belt hugging her waist. Gold hoop earrings, shiny nails, hair pulled into a sleek ponytail. Rich girl vibes all the way. Ivy noticed her staring and smiled

“Time up. Pens down please,” the lecturer said loudly. The whole hall erupted into cheers. Students were clapping, whistling, and already packing their bags like they’d been set free from prison.Final paper done. Finally.Seraphine leaned back in her chair, letting out a small sigh. She looked across the hall and her eyes landed on Ezra. He was smiling at her. That same smile that used to make her feel warm but now just made her chest ache. She quickly looked away, but it was too late—he was already walking over.“Seraphine,” Ezra said softly. “Can we talk?”She glanced at her watch. 10:50.“I don’t have much time,” she said, standing up and holding her bag. “I need to head somewhere.”“I’ll give you a ride then,” he offered quickly. She hesitated. Every part of her screamed no, but somehow she found herself nodding. “...Fine.”They walked out together and got into his car. He started the engine and asked, “So, where are you headed?”“The county records office,” she answered.Ezra fr

It makes no sense. Seraphine clicked again, digging deeper. Another article came up. “Kane Innovations secures Greenstone Energy Project. A huge win for Maxwell Kane.”She remembered him talking about it once, right at the dinner table. He looked so proud. But then her smile dropped when she read the follow-up. “Greenstone Energy Project awarded to Hale Corporation following Maxwell Kane’s death.”Her stomach twisted. So Dad gets a huge project… then dies… and it goes straight to the Hales. She rubbed her temple and kept scrolling.“Hale Corporation on the verge of bankruptcy.”“Hale Corporation suspected to be tied to illegal dealings.”“CEO Jonathan Hale accused of mafia connections, illegal shipments under investigation.”Seraphine’s mouth went dry. “What the actual f**k…”Her finger hovered, then scrolled further. July 27th.“Tragedy: Businessman Maxwell Kane dies in car accident.”“Hale family steps in to support Kane’s widow and daughter.”“Hale Corporation hires top lawyer

  • MY DEAR REVENGE   CHAPTER 8

When Seraphine reached home, her mom wasn’t back yet. The house felt too quiet, too small compared to the Hale mansion she had just left. She dropped her bag on the couch and went straight to her room. The second the door shut, she lost it.She screamed into her pillow, her whole body shaking. She threw the pillow across the room, then the blanket, then her books. Tears streamed down her face.“Why, Ezra?” she cried out, voice cracking. “Why the f**k would you do this to me?”Memories hit her hard. Ezra holding her hand when they were kids. Ezra promising he’d always protect her. Telling her he loved her.All of it felt like lies now. Like he is just stringing her along. She curled up on the bed, shaking, her tears soaking the sheets.By the time her mom got home, Seraphine had cried herself into exhaustion. She quickly wiped her face, pretending she had just been reading. But her swollen eyes gave her away.“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?” her mom asked softly.Seraphine forced a smile. “
