NATHALIE’S POV
-
“How are you?” He asks.
He has a lower pitch deep icy tone voice.
“I’m asking you.” He asked impatiently.
“Y-Yes?” I stammered.
He sat down on the opposite seat. “Seat.” He ordered as he stared at my amber eyes.
I was like a puppy following the owner’s orders.
“You no longer experience a fever?”
I stroked my neck and forehead. My body temperature was normal. I’m no longer burdened by weight.
“I think I’m free from the fever. The woman who gave me food also said I no longer have a fever.”
Sir Calix stood up. “I’ll send Esther again to help you get dressed. We’re going somewhere.”
“Wait, I can’t waste… time…”
Before I could complete my statement, he exited the room; it seemed he had heard nothing I said.
I search my bag and found near the bed. Upon getting my bag I prepared to leave however, my phone rang.
I took my phone first and answered the call from one of my work colleagues.
“Nathalie, where are you? In two hours, the investor in the company will be here. Our failure here will cost us millions of dollars—Sir?”
Before I could answer, she ended the call.
I’m going to the company first to take all responsibility. I don’t care if I’m the only one who gets fired, just don’t let my co-workers suffer because of my stupidity.
“Miss?”
I looked at the woman who brought me food.
“What’s your name again?”
“Nathalie. Nathalie Davies.” I introduced myself.
“I’m Esther,” she handed me my few clothes. These are the ones that are dry. Take a shower before you and Sir Calix leave.”
I looked at what I was wearing. I was wearing an oversized plain white shirt that reached before my knee and pajamas that had a pleat to fit me.
I hugged myself after I realized I wasn’t wearing any undergarments and I faced Sir Calix like this.
“Don’t worry, it’s not obvious you’re not wearing any undergarments,” Esther said, laughing.
I’m unsure if I should appreciate it or take offense.
“I don’t smell bad?” I asked.
Esther sniffed a few times. “Not really.”
“I don’t have time to take a shower. I have something to go to. Where is the bathroom?”
“Go straight to the mini living room, and after that, turn to the right corner. The bathroom is there.”
“Thank you,” I said hurriedly, and left Esther’s presence.
“At least brush your teeth!” Esther reminded me.
In my haste, brushing my teeth didn’t cross my mind, so as soon as I got to the bathroom, I grabbed a new toothbrush and changed clothes.
I hurried out of the room and grabbed my bag. “Can you show me the way out of this house?”
“Do you have somewhere else to go?”
“Yes. I have to go to my workplace or my colleagues will all get fired.”
“That’s an important matter. Just tell Sir Calix about that matter so he can take you first and then you can go straight to your destination.”
“Where are we going?” I asked curiously.
“I’m not sure either.”
I was nervous about that. Why does she not know where to take me?
When we left the room, amazement supplanted my fear. This wasn’t a house, I was inside a mansion. The floor consisted of expensive marble; the appliances were high end, most of which I had never seen before. There were paintings and vases that looked expensive too.
This is my first time entering a house this big. Joshua’s house is already big enough for me, but it looks like his house is not even one-eighth the size of the living room of this mansion.
When we arrived at the main door, there was a black car parked there, also a man who is looking at us, I think he was in his sixties. He opened the backseat door after we got near to him.
“Don’t be shy about telling Sir Calix about your concerns, okay?” Esther whispered.
“He didn’t intend to kidnap me, did he?” I whispered back.
She laughed at me.
After all, Sir Calix wouldn’t have anything to gain from me if he kidnapped me, and I don’t seem to be the type of woman he would want.
Once I got into the car, the man who opened it also closed it.
“Let’s go.” Sir Calix ordered the driver without even taking his eyes off the iP*d he was carrying.
I glanced at Sir Calix.
He was just sitting there, but he looked like a model.
I still can’t believe that the CEO of the Watson company, whom many desperately seek to speak with, is sitting right next to me.
“Do you need anything?” He asked coldly, without taking his eyes off his iP*d.
I nodded slowly.
I didn’t let my shock show when Sir Calix shifted his gaze to me.
“What do you need?”
“Can you take me to Lewis technology company?”
That company is the top seven richest companies in the entire world and the firstrichest company is none other than the Watson Company.
I am an office staff at Lewis company, but my senior gave me the opportunity to present because he saw potential in me to be promoted. But, what happened I no longer hope for a promotion and even more so I no longer hope to be accepted at work.
“What are you going to do there?”
“We have something to present, but something happened that ruined the presentation. I worked so hard for almost three months.”
“If you have nothing to present, what are you going to do there?”
“I’ll take the responsibility.” I answered without hesitation. “That’s all I can do…” I said, almost in a whisper.
“Are you aware Lewis is not just any company?”
“Of course. I know that.” I sighed.
“What if the company sues you for your incompetence?”
“I’ll ask them to give me a second chance, otherwise I’ll accept the consequences of what I did.”
“Why did you lose your presentation?”
“Someone broke my laptop, including my five flash drives that had all the copies of my presentation.”
He shifted his gaze to the driver. “Give me my phone.”
The driver unplugged the phone and give it to Sir Calix.
He pressed his phone and placed the phone to his ear. “Cancel my appointment at Lewis company. And tell them to get Nathalie Davies fired to her work.”
NATHALIE’S POV-Chloe pulled the car over to the side of the road and asked in a shrill voice, “What did you say?! You’re pregnant?! Harrison got you pregnant?! How did that happen—are you two betraying Calix?!”I could only stare at my hand on my lap, shaking with a blend of fear and elation. Fear was dominant in me.“Nathalie! Do you have a child with Harrison?”I shook my head.“Then what?! I heard it clearly. You technically said you have a child with him!”I turned to Chloe. She was furious at any moment and was ready to slap me for her friends. It was meant to remain unspoken, but my tumultuous feelings caused me to inadvertently speak my thoughts.“I don’t know... If only I had shown myself to him then, if I had made myself known to him then. Maybe my child—our child—would still be living.”Gradually, her face softened. “What do you mean?” she asked, confused. “Your child died?” Her voice was filled with disbelief and pity.I responded with a nod of my head.“I’m sorry to ask
NATHALIE’S POV-He took off his white coat, set it on the table, and then gathered up all the paper bags again.I put the paper bag containing the teddy bear on the couch and then followed him to the kitchen.“I’m going to take a shower first. Can you handle being alone here?”“Yes. I can handle it.”“Okay then… feel at home. You can do whatever you want here.”I found myself laughing at what he said. After he left the kitchen, I began preparing the ingredients, and then I started cooking. It took me a full hour to cook, and the moment the soup was ready, I served Harrison his portion to keep the pasta shells perfect. No sooner had I set the soup on the table than I heard his rapid footsteps thundering down the stairs.Entering the living room, I was shocked by what I saw.He stood with his back to me, the muscles of his back visible, with nothing on but a towel low on his waist. My breath caught in my throat. As he pulled his phone from his coat pocket, he turned, as if only then rea
NATHALIE’S POV-“I’ll just call Sir Calix.” I told Esther.“Okay, you take care of it.”I’m on my way to Harrison’s apartment now. I didn’t get a chance to tell Sir Calix about it because I was swamped with things to do and completely exhausted last night, physically drained from playing all day.I adjusted my height to be equal to Brianna’s, who was beside Esther. “Baby, I’ll just leave for a moment. I’ll be right back. I’ll just get something from your godfather Harrison. I’ll leave you with Esther and the others here. Is that okay with you?”Hwr response was a smiling nod accompanied by two thumbs up.Donna clapped her hands in joy when she saw Brianna’s answer. Donna told me she actually loves kids and has always wanted to play with Brianna, but she couldn’t because of Brianna’s situation.I can’t take Brianna with me this time, William wasn’t available to drive us. If I let her ride the public bus, she might be scared of the crowds.“Alright, I’m heading out! Bye-bye everyone!” I
NATHALIE’S POV-As the night came, Brianna and I were equally weary..We played touch football until Mr. Calix arrived. If he hadn’t come, we wouldn’t have noticed the time. That explains it; Brianna was completely zonked out and fast asleep as I emerged out of the bathroom. She’s in her dad’s room again. We were going to play Snakes and Ladders, but it looks like that’s not happening. She’s sound asleep, snuggled against Mr. Calix’s arm. When Sir Calix saw me approaching them he gently removed his daughter’s hug and replaced it with a pillow. He kissed Brianna’s forehead which I also followed with a kiss on her cheek.“She fell asleep as soon as you went to the bathroom,” Mr. Calix said gently, moving carefully as he placed pillows around Brianna.I nodded, understanding the exhaustion she must feel. If she got so tired from just playing, what more for me who’s older than her by many years?“I’ve never seen her play like that before,” Mr. Calix remarked, finishing what he was doing.
NATHALIE’S POV-“Baby, this? Badminton. This is fun to play.”She showed me the badminton shuttlecock she found.“Let’s put it in the storage box, baby.” I suggested. As we placed the badminton equipment into the storage box, we gazed at it, realizing it was now full. After the breakfast, we went back to Brianna’s room to do her morning routine and since we were both giving her hands a break from designing, we thought about wandering around the mansion to find something to do.While we were wandering around for a while, we met Esther and Donna. We learned they were cleaning the warehouse, where the things that were going to be thrown away were. Brianna and I decided to join in, and when we saw all the sports equipment, we decided to take them out.“Amazing, it’s not dusty at all!” I said, surprised. The stored equipment is so clean, we can use it right now.“Esther and I often clean here.” Donna said proudly as she approached us and then whispered, “I’m the one who asked Esther to cl
NATHALIE’S POV-Later that evening, upon Sir Calix’s return, he found Brianna asleep on the sofa. She hadn’t woken up since she fell asleep there.“What’s Brianna doing here?” Sir Calix asked, astonished and surprised, as he came closer to his daughter.“We were searching for an amusement park we could all visit. She looked at so many options that her eyes must have gotten tired, and she drifted off to sleep here in the living room, so I let her rest here.”“She looks more comfortable here.” he commented laughing.“It could be because she knew she was surrounded by people who care about her. Before she drifted off to sleep, she was with all of us.”“Really? That’s... That’s really new. ““It’s a fresh and positive change for her,” I said, my face lit up with a smile. He nodded, then drew me closer by putting his arm around my shoulder and touched his lips gently to my forehead. “How about you? Are you alright?”“Yes, sir. I’ve already talked to my mom.”“Hmm? What did Mrs. Margaret s
