MasukNATHALIE’S POV
-
“How are you?” He asks.
He has a lower pitch deep icy tone voice.
“I’m asking you.” He asked impatiently.
“Y-Yes?” I stammered.
He sat down on the opposite seat. “Seat.” He ordered as he stared at my amber eyes.
I was like a puppy following the owner’s orders.
“You no longer experience a fever?”
I stroked my neck and forehead. My body temperature was normal. I’m no longer burdened by weight.
“I think I’m free from the fever. The woman who gave me food also said I no longer have a fever.”
Sir Calix stood up. “I’ll send Esther again to help you get dressed. We’re going somewhere.”
“Wait, I can’t waste… time…”
Before I could complete my statement, he exited the room; it seemed he had heard nothing I said.
I search my bag and found near the bed. Upon getting my bag I prepared to leave however, my phone rang.
I took my phone first and answered the call from one of my work colleagues.
“Nathalie, where are you? In two hours, the investor in the company will be here. Our failure here will cost us millions of dollars—Sir?”
Before I could answer, she ended the call.
I’m going to the company first to take all responsibility. I don’t care if I’m the only one who gets fired, just don’t let my co-workers suffer because of my stupidity.
“Miss?”
I looked at the woman who brought me food.
“What’s your name again?”
“Nathalie. Nathalie Davies.” I introduced myself.
“I’m Esther,” she handed me my few clothes. These are the ones that are dry. Take a shower before you and Sir Calix leave.”
I looked at what I was wearing. I was wearing an oversized plain white shirt that reached before my knee and pajamas that had a pleat to fit me.
I hugged myself after I realized I wasn’t wearing any undergarments and I faced Sir Calix like this.
“Don’t worry, it’s not obvious you’re not wearing any undergarments,” Esther said, laughing.
I’m unsure if I should appreciate it or take offense.
“I don’t smell bad?” I asked.
Esther sniffed a few times. “Not really.”
“I don’t have time to take a shower. I have something to go to. Where is the bathroom?”
“Go straight to the mini living room, and after that, turn to the right corner. The bathroom is there.”
“Thank you,” I said hurriedly, and left Esther’s presence.
“At least brush your teeth!” Esther reminded me.
In my haste, brushing my teeth didn’t cross my mind, so as soon as I got to the bathroom, I grabbed a new toothbrush and changed clothes.
I hurried out of the room and grabbed my bag. “Can you show me the way out of this house?”
“Do you have somewhere else to go?”
“Yes. I have to go to my workplace or my colleagues will all get fired.”
“That’s an important matter. Just tell Sir Calix about that matter so he can take you first and then you can go straight to your destination.”
“Where are we going?” I asked curiously.
“I’m not sure either.”
I was nervous about that. Why does she not know where to take me?
When we left the room, amazement supplanted my fear. This wasn’t a house, I was inside a mansion. The floor consisted of expensive marble; the appliances were high end, most of which I had never seen before. There were paintings and vases that looked expensive too.
This is my first time entering a house this big. Joshua’s house is already big enough for me, but it looks like his house is not even one-eighth the size of the living room of this mansion.
When we arrived at the main door, there was a black car parked there, also a man who is looking at us, I think he was in his sixties. He opened the backseat door after we got near to him.
“Don’t be shy about telling Sir Calix about your concerns, okay?” Esther whispered.
“He didn’t intend to kidnap me, did he?” I whispered back.
She laughed at me.
After all, Sir Calix wouldn’t have anything to gain from me if he kidnapped me, and I don’t seem to be the type of woman he would want.
Once I got into the car, the man who opened it also closed it.
“Let’s go.” Sir Calix ordered the driver without even taking his eyes off the iP*d he was carrying.
I glanced at Sir Calix.
He was just sitting there, but he looked like a model.
I still can’t believe that the CEO of the Watson company, whom many desperately seek to speak with, is sitting right next to me.
“Do you need anything?” He asked coldly, without taking his eyes off his iP*d.
I nodded slowly.
I didn’t let my shock show when Sir Calix shifted his gaze to me.
“What do you need?”
“Can you take me to Lewis technology company?”
That company is the top seven richest companies in the entire world and the firstrichest company is none other than the Watson Company.
I am an office staff at Lewis company, but my senior gave me the opportunity to present because he saw potential in me to be promoted. But, what happened I no longer hope for a promotion and even more so I no longer hope to be accepted at work.
“What are you going to do there?”
“We have something to present, but something happened that ruined the presentation. I worked so hard for almost three months.”
“If you have nothing to present, what are you going to do there?”
“I’ll take the responsibility.” I answered without hesitation. “That’s all I can do…” I said, almost in a whisper.
“Are you aware Lewis is not just any company?”
“Of course. I know that.” I sighed.
“What if the company sues you for your incompetence?”
“I’ll ask them to give me a second chance, otherwise I’ll accept the consequences of what I did.”
“Why did you lose your presentation?”
“Someone broke my laptop, including my five flash drives that had all the copies of my presentation.”
He shifted his gaze to the driver. “Give me my phone.”
The driver unplugged the phone and give it to Sir Calix.
He pressed his phone and placed the phone to his ear. “Cancel my appointment at Lewis company. And tell them to get Nathalie Davies fired to her work.”
NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-“You really think I’m gonna let what you did to Sapphire go just like that?!” he roared in rage. “I’ll never, ever forget what you did to my child.”He burst out laughing, but there was anger in it. “Sh*t on you, Nathalie! You didn’t give me any right to choose a name for my own child.”He let out a cutting breath. “It wasn’t just that you made a fool of me before, your idiocy is what took my child’s life!”“I... I...”“Are you going to apologize again? Will your sorry bring Sapphire back to life?”“Haven’t we fixed this already?” I whispered, my chest tight with a desperation that clawed at my throat.“Things would only be made right if you could bring my child back… but you can’t do that anymore.”I stood, not daring to pull my eyes from him. “Maybe… just maybe we can still fix this? We still love each other–”“Still in love with you?” he chuckled, his eyes glinting. “That godforsaken love has been long gone. I just stuck it out with you to get to this moment –
NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-The shock hit me so hard that I didn’t even register my own breath. As if my brain just burst, and I had absolutely no thoughts left.Maybe I just heard wrong, or maybe I misunderstood.“Sir–”From the pocket, he took out a long white envelope. “This is your pay. Inside is your one month’s salary and a one-year advance payment. This should be enough for your expenses while you look for a new job.” He stated, his voice cold and flat.“Work?” I found myself asking, hardly able to believe it.Do all the things I’ve shown him, all the words I’ve said to him, and above all my love for him and Brianna, mean nothing to him but part of my job?“By the time I’m back in my room, you need to be gone from my mansion. If not, I’ll make you leave.”I ran toward his front, blocking his path.“I can’t make sense of this...” I questioned, my mind spinning. “You’re telling me to leave?” I murmured without realizing it.“In my life, and my child’s life – don’t come back or show yours
NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-“Daddy Calix hurt you?”“Did Daddy Calix say anything not nice to you that hurt your feelings or made you cry?”She waved her head back and forth“Did Daddy Calix physically hurt you? Did he do something that hurt your body? Did he gave you any bruise?"She gave a small head shakeI let out a small sigh of relief.Sir Calix is not the sort of person who would inflict harm, particularly not on his daughter.I asked to confirm what she meant by why she’s scared of Sir Calix.“What are you afraid of Daddy Calix?” I inquired in a soft, compassionate wayShe picked up the tablet and wrote once more, then showed it to me – on the screen was: ‘Don’t leave me.’I nodded. “Of course, baby. I won’t leave you.” I assured her.I let out a silent sigh in my head.I glanced at what she wrote. She didn’t seem to want to answer my question.“Baby!” I brightened my tone so she wouldn’t catch on that I still want to hear the answer about why she’s afraid.“After the storytelling, wh
NATHALIE’S POV-My mom insisted that I didn’t have to come back right away, and that Brianna and I should keep up our usual routine of visiting her two to three times a week.I arrived at the mansion near nightfall. When I stepped inside, I found Esther bidding farewell to everyone and. I noticed three big suitcases as well.Donna looked over at me and joyfully called out, “Nathalie’s finally here!”They all glanced in my direction. I felt somewhat awkward about snatching everyone’s focus so quickly.“Nathalie!” Esther said happily and tearfully. She walked over to me, gave me a quick hug, and then pulled away right away.“It’s good you arrived before I left.”“Donna called me earlier.”Me and Esther turned to look at Donna simultaneously, and right after, she flipped her hair."“Did you expect anyone else?” Donna bragged.“Thank you,” Esther said with appreciation to him, then looked my way. “I didn’t want to bother you more, but I’m very happy to say goodbye to you in person.”“I’m
NATHALIE’S POV-“I can manage this. You don’t have to keep worrying about me.”I let mom get out of the car alone. When she got out, she turned to Harrison who gave us a ride and asked him, “You really have to go now? Let me whip up something fast to return the favor for all you’ve done.”“Thanks, Ms. Margaret, but I really have to go. I’ve got other things to take care of. And please don’t feel like you owe me anything, spending time with you and Nat was entirely my pleasure.”“Thanks so much. You look busy indeed, but if you have a free moment, my home is always open to you, and I’ll prepare a meal for you.”“Sure, Ms. Margaret. I’ll come here when I’m not busy. Thank you.”“Don’t mention it. Alright, I’ll go in first.”Mom went into the house first; I, on the other hand, looked at Harrison again.“Thank you so much, Harrison. You’ve been helping us since yesterday. From picking up mom, looking after us in the hospital, all the way to seeing us off at our very doorstep.”“No big de
NATHALIE’S POV-After reading the news articles and comments, I put my phone and bag on the bedside table. Most of the comments I read were curious about the appearance of his fiancée, happy and impressed by his speech, especially when mentioning about his child. There was no picture of Sir Calix with Brianna at the party. I don’t think he introduced Brianna like we had planned.I gazed at the ring Sir Calix gave me.He might as well not have brought up the engagement since I wasn’t present with him.Even though he announced the engagement, I know I caused him pain when I unexpectedly left the party and wasn’t there with “I’ll talk to him tomorrow.” I whispered to myself.I picked up my phone when it beeped. That sound meant someone had sent a message.Donna was the one who sent the message. It was displayed in the message box: 'We’ve arrived at the mansion. Brianna is already asleep.'I replied, 'Thank you. Is Sir Calix there?'Almost a minute passed and Donna replied, 'He’s not h
