LOGINNATHALIE’S POV
-
I instantly drop my smile.
“But why…” I asked after he ended the call.
It’s hard to get into Lewis company. It’s almost impossible to get into that company. Out of a hundred applicants I was with when I applied, only three of us got in.
So it was heavy on my heart with just one word from a Calix Zander Watson, I lost my job after years of hard work.
“You said you’d accept the consequences?” He innocently question me back.
“Yes, but…” Both of my shoulders slumped.
I anticipated my firing, especially given our client’s is Watson company. It’s just... I couldn’t explain myself and prove my ability to deliver the presentation.
The presentation I was about to do was the first time I would speak to many people again.
I have a fear of public speaking. I will try to fight this fear of mine through this presentation. But it seems like this is not for me.
“Thank you.” At least my coworkers weren’t affected.
Sir Calix turned his full attention back to his iP*d, while mwe, I took my phone out of my bag when it vibrated.
Once I checked a message from one of my coworkers and asked if it was true I had been fired, she also said they had extended the presentation for two months.
I replied, stating I had been fired and apologizing for the need to redo the presentation. She replied it was okay because I had done almost everything.
I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing they didn’t hold any grudges against me.
I hid the phone in my bag again, then took a quick glance at Sir Calix.
He seemed like a very busy person and it was embarrassing to disturb even five seconds of his time.
I faked a cough to spoke again.
“Where are you taking me?” I asked. “You don’t have any bad intentions for me?” I added.
The corner of his mouth became pointed downwards.
Why was he agitated? I have the right to know where he’s taking me, for my safety.
“We’re going to the hospital.” He said coldly.
I was stunned for a moment, then glanced out the window as I remembered my mother.
I didn’t know how to tell my mother I no longer had the money to pay for her surgery.
My mother’s three gallbladders need to be removed this month, otherwise it will endanger her life.
I tilted my head and glanced at Sir Calix.
I didn’t understand why he was treating me like this. There’s nothing wrong with how he treated me. It’s just strange he let me stay at his mansion, he extended the time for my coworkers and now I’m going to accompany him to the hospital?
Whatever his reason, I guess I can borrow at least thirty thousand dollars from him?
That kind of money is probably a small amount to him and most of all I will pay him back—when I find a new job.
I opened my mouth but closed it, and looked back outside.
I’ll talk to him after he finishes his business at the hospital we’re going to.
I also need courage for what I’m going to do.
The time I saw the big sign name of the hospital we were going to, my eyes widened.
We were about to enter the parking lot of Smith Medical Center Hospital. This hospital is a famous hospital for everything, from the smallest illness to the rarest illness, they can treat it.
Admitting my mother here wouldn’t worry me because her safety is assured, but the expenses are very high. A regular room starts at five thousand dollars.
“Let’s go.”
I snapped out of my thoughts following I heard his voice.
When Sir Calix got off, I got out of the car.
He ordered the driver not to follow us.
I followed him until we entered the elevator. He was the one who pressed the button to go to the sixth floor.
We were both silent until we reached the sixth floor.
While following Sir Calix, I couldn’t stop looking around and marveling. This is what this hospital looks like, like a hotel. The hallway is also wide.
Arriving in front of a private room, my whole being seemed to shake after seeing the name of the patient admitted to this room.
Margaret Davis. Same as my mother’s name.
I don’t want to assume, but going inside I saw my mom who had just finished taking the vital signs.
“Thank you, nurse.” My mother said to the nurse.
“Your welcome, Ma’am.” The nurse replied calmly.
A smile appeared on my mom’s lips the moment she saw me. “Nathalie, my beautiful daughter.”
While I felt as if my soul had escaped the moment it sank into me my mother was in front of me.
“M-Mom…” I called out in tears, with a sound coming out of my mouth.
I go near to my mom and hugged her. Seeing she was in good condition makes me in tears.
“Why are you crying?”
I broke away from the hug. “I’m happy to see you, mom.”
My mom wiped my cheek. “You should smile if you’re happy,” she joked.
I took a deep breath to stop myself from crying.
“They moved my surgery. Tomorrow I will have my surgery here.”
“What?” I asked in surprise.
“The doctors said her body must be in good condition before they operate.”
I turned my full attention to Sir Calix.
“She was moved here around five am, and to ensure her body is in good condition, her surgery was moved. It won’t affect her body and health. Besides, the doctor I requested will be back tomorrow morning.”
“Is my mother going to have surgery at this hospital?”
“Yes. And it’s scheduled for tomorrow night.”
I was so grateful for what he was doing, but I couldn’t help but wonder.
“Why are you doing this?” I query.
NATHALIE'S POV 🍃-After we ate, I took care of the kids, while Tyler cleaned up our dishes. After I got the kids ready and I took a shower, we left the apartment and went to our destination.....The trip to the mall took about three hours and the first thing we went to was the first boutique shop we saw.“Dad, do I look good?” Sapphire asked after I had her wear the dress we saw at this shop.“Yes, baby! It suits you!” Tyler praised her.“Really?” Sapphire then turned to face me again. “Mommy, can I buy this? Please?”“You don’t have to please, baby. Yes, we’ll buy everything you want.”“Really, mommy? Can I still choose another dress?”“Of course, baby. But let’s head back to the fitting room first and put your clothes back on.”“Yes, yes, mommy!” Sapphi
CALIX'S POV 🍃-I nodded. I swallowed my food. “Yes, mom.”“Don’t follow in your father’s footsteps,” she said sharply as she stood up. “I’m done eating. Enjoy your dinner.”I continued eating. I drank some water first and when I put the glass down again, I peeked at the instant noodles. I took the fork that had been prepared for my wife, which was intended for her use.I grabbed a bit of noodles with my fork, sniffed it first before digging in.The spiciness of these noodles rushed straight to my tongue, and went all the way to my throat when I swallowed. I also tasted the milk that lessens the spiciness of the flavor including the tippings. The flavor is intensely hot and almost overwhelming, but it’s super tasty given how cheap it is. It feels like something is burning my throat and tongue with the strength of the spiciness. And even though it
CALIX POV 🍃-Despite that incident, the bond between the three of us remained intact. We still support each other quietly, but through strong, meaningful moves. Just like I keep donating to Harrison’s hospital, and he supported the launch event that happened in Florida recently when he got the jewelry I auctioned. But, I can’t remember the last time we talked properly after I was discharged. Oh right! It was after I donated blood, when my body was very frail, that Harrison and I had another conversation alone.“Why did you turn your back on me?”I glanced over at Veronica when she walked in here.“You’re intoxicated and have already consumed a great deal of alcohol.”“So? Is that supposed to be an excuse to leave your gorgeous wife behind when we’re still in the middle of talking?”“You’re saying all sorts of things,” I replie
CALIX POV 🍃-Over the past four years, I have yet to recall details of my marriage to Veronica. After I woke up from that accident, was the only thing I could recall about how we started being together.Every time I asked Veronica or my parents about our marriage, I discerned they avoided that question.Veronica answered my question once and all she said was, “The first three months we’re together weren’t great. Let’s just forget about what happened and start fresh.”I agreed. Because I don’t remember any other woman I’ve shown interest in. However, what Harrison said back then often comes to my mind.........• • • • • ( FLASHBACK ) • • • • • •....-I’m alone here in the private room now, waiting for Veronica, who is taking care of my discharge papers.I kneaded my temple.I couldn’t un
CALIX'S POV 🍃-Veronica Frost was my first love. We were in middle school when I met her. Our parents and her parents met at an event, and coincidentally, both of us were brought along by our parents then. That’s where I first noticed her.We went to the same school in high school. She didn’t like me then, she really hated me to the point that every time I met her on campus she rolled her eyes at me.Except for that one time in high school when I had a crush on her, I don’t remember anything else about her, especially about us.My parents told me that I had married Veronica’s sister Venice back then. They explained to me it was an arranged wedding; unfortunately, Venice passed away. Seven years later—which was four years ago, Veronica and I got married, and this time, we both loved each other. But I don’t remember anything about that... About marrying Veronica...
CALIX'S POV🍃-Once Nathalie Davies got into a taxi, I followed the cab she was riding. After almost an hour’s drive, she exited the taxi and entered a luxury apartment building.“This is where you live, Nathalie Davies.” I whispered to myself.I tapped my pointed finger on the steering wheel while looking at the main gate she entered.Nothing else was running through my mind but how I could get her to agree to my deal with her.D*mmit. I don’t know why that woman has this effect on me? Ever since I saw her in Florida—in the restaurant parking lot, she haven’t been able to get her out of my mind. If my wife had called me at that time, I would have wiped Nathalie’s tears. At the new jewelry designs’ launch event, had I failed to restrain myself that evening, I cannot say what actions I might have taken. Actions would certainly have destroyed my marriage to my wife. It’ll be destroyed? That made me
