Mag-log inNATHALIE’S POV
-
I instantly drop my smile.
“But why…” I asked after he ended the call.
It’s hard to get into Lewis company. It’s almost impossible to get into that company. Out of a hundred applicants I was with when I applied, only three of us got in.
So it was heavy on my heart with just one word from a Calix Zander Watson, I lost my job after years of hard work.
“You said you’d accept the consequences?” He innocently question me back.
“Yes, but…” Both of my shoulders slumped.
I anticipated my firing, especially given our client’s is Watson company. It’s just... I couldn’t explain myself and prove my ability to deliver the presentation.
The presentation I was about to do was the first time I would speak to many people again.
I have a fear of public speaking. I will try to fight this fear of mine through this presentation. But it seems like this is not for me.
“Thank you.” At least my coworkers weren’t affected.
Sir Calix turned his full attention back to his iP*d, while mwe, I took my phone out of my bag when it vibrated.
Once I checked a message from one of my coworkers and asked if it was true I had been fired, she also said they had extended the presentation for two months.
I replied, stating I had been fired and apologizing for the need to redo the presentation. She replied it was okay because I had done almost everything.
I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing they didn’t hold any grudges against me.
I hid the phone in my bag again, then took a quick glance at Sir Calix.
He seemed like a very busy person and it was embarrassing to disturb even five seconds of his time.
I faked a cough to spoke again.
“Where are you taking me?” I asked. “You don’t have any bad intentions for me?” I added.
The corner of his mouth became pointed downwards.
Why was he agitated? I have the right to know where he’s taking me, for my safety.
“We’re going to the hospital.” He said coldly.
I was stunned for a moment, then glanced out the window as I remembered my mother.
I didn’t know how to tell my mother I no longer had the money to pay for her surgery.
My mother’s three gallbladders need to be removed this month, otherwise it will endanger her life.
I tilted my head and glanced at Sir Calix.
I didn’t understand why he was treating me like this. There’s nothing wrong with how he treated me. It’s just strange he let me stay at his mansion, he extended the time for my coworkers and now I’m going to accompany him to the hospital?
Whatever his reason, I guess I can borrow at least thirty thousand dollars from him?
That kind of money is probably a small amount to him and most of all I will pay him back—when I find a new job.
I opened my mouth but closed it, and looked back outside.
I’ll talk to him after he finishes his business at the hospital we’re going to.
I also need courage for what I’m going to do.
The time I saw the big sign name of the hospital we were going to, my eyes widened.
We were about to enter the parking lot of Smith Medical Center Hospital. This hospital is a famous hospital for everything, from the smallest illness to the rarest illness, they can treat it.
Admitting my mother here wouldn’t worry me because her safety is assured, but the expenses are very high. A regular room starts at five thousand dollars.
“Let’s go.”
I snapped out of my thoughts following I heard his voice.
When Sir Calix got off, I got out of the car.
He ordered the driver not to follow us.
I followed him until we entered the elevator. He was the one who pressed the button to go to the sixth floor.
We were both silent until we reached the sixth floor.
While following Sir Calix, I couldn’t stop looking around and marveling. This is what this hospital looks like, like a hotel. The hallway is also wide.
Arriving in front of a private room, my whole being seemed to shake after seeing the name of the patient admitted to this room.
Margaret Davis. Same as my mother’s name.
I don’t want to assume, but going inside I saw my mom who had just finished taking the vital signs.
“Thank you, nurse.” My mother said to the nurse.
“Your welcome, Ma’am.” The nurse replied calmly.
A smile appeared on my mom’s lips the moment she saw me. “Nathalie, my beautiful daughter.”
While I felt as if my soul had escaped the moment it sank into me my mother was in front of me.
“M-Mom…” I called out in tears, with a sound coming out of my mouth.
I go near to my mom and hugged her. Seeing she was in good condition makes me in tears.
“Why are you crying?”
I broke away from the hug. “I’m happy to see you, mom.”
My mom wiped my cheek. “You should smile if you’re happy,” she joked.
I took a deep breath to stop myself from crying.
“They moved my surgery. Tomorrow I will have my surgery here.”
“What?” I asked in surprise.
“The doctors said her body must be in good condition before they operate.”
I turned my full attention to Sir Calix.
“She was moved here around five am, and to ensure her body is in good condition, her surgery was moved. It won’t affect her body and health. Besides, the doctor I requested will be back tomorrow morning.”
“Is my mother going to have surgery at this hospital?”
“Yes. And it’s scheduled for tomorrow night.”
I was so grateful for what he was doing, but I couldn’t help but wonder.
“Why are you doing this?” I query.
CALIX'S POV 🍃–“I’m going now,” I said laconically.Veronica smiled again. She tiptoed, took hold of both my arms, then gave me a kiss on the lips. I nearly pushed her, had she not gripped my arms firmly.“Don’t go overboard and get too exhausted to your work, babe.”I gave a restrained nod and answered equally reservedly, “Hm.”I slowly released her grip on my arm. “I have to go. I might be late for my breakfast meeting.”“I understand. Give me a call or even just send a quick text when you get to your breakfast meeting. I just want to make sure you’re there safely and not be worried.”“Sure. I'll go now.” I bid farewell once more, and stepped away from where she stood.I was already holding the door knob when Veronica called me again.“Babe!”I made an effort not
NATHALIE'S POV 🍃-“Yes,” I answered without hesitation. “I am sure.”“Are you still sticking to that answer?”“Certainly.”“Nat, we’re still friends, right? Same as before?”“Without a doubt.”“In that case, why lie?” he let out a chuckle. “After all, it’s nothing new for you to come to me first and open up about your real feelings for the one you love.”I frowned. “Me? Lying? I’m not.”“Perhaps you aren’t aware of it yourself.”“Which one?”“There is a spot reserved for him in your heart.”“Who? Tyler?”“Sadly, yes.”“Ty is my friend. Or rather, a special friend.”“Did you notice in yourself, that sweet smile you had when I asked you about him?”“W-What?” I asked in a panic.I touched both ends of my lips at the same time.He laughed out loud. “Why are you so nervous?”“Just go ahead and cook!” I said in annoyance.I wasn’t smiling. What I wasn’t sure about was what he was saying, about my sweet smile...Harrison and I didn’t talk about that anymore because he needed to focus on c
NATHALIE'S POV 🍃-“Ouch!” I yelped as I cut my finger while slicing the cabbage.“Nat!”Harrison moved to my side in the blink of an eye.He gently held my hand. “Are you alright?”“Yes. I’ll wash it first.”I rose and walked over to the sink, Harrison still by my side, as he opened the tap.“Do you have a medicine box?”“Yes. It’s in that cabinet,” I then pointed to that cabinet.“I’ll take it first.”I nodded my head then looked back at my finger.Right after I turned off the faucet, Harrison returned to my side, carrying the medicine box.“Let me treat your wound in the living room.”“I can do it.”“Who’s the doctor here?” he asked in a tone was both authoritative and playful.“I give up, Harrison!” I said with a big smile, just laughing at him. Then we headed to the living room.We came upon Xander as he was enjoying a lively talk with Ty and Sapphire. It wasn’t until we got close to the sofa that my son noticed us.“Mommy!”Xander stood up, walked over to me, and gave me a hug.
NATHALIE'S POV 🍃–“No, mommy. Cause you weren’t with me, Mommy. I called you so many times and you didn’t answer. I thought you left me behind.”“Sorry, little one. I fell asleep in the living room. And besides, I won’t leave you. I love you.”“I love you too, mommy.”“I’m just about to cook our breakfast. Let’s go to the kitchen?”Xander nodded happily.I picked up my son and we went downstairs.“Xander, what do you want for breakfast?” “Hmm... Mommy, is it okay if we skip the broccoli this time?”Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, I stared at my child. I blinked repeatedly, yet he is a smiling.“Please, mommy.”“Okay, son. But, what about broccoli shake?” I joked.“Mommy, I don’t want it.”“Just kidding, little one. Okay, no broccoli for today.”“Ye-hey!”I was about to head to the kitchen when at the same time my phone on the sofa rang and the door bell also rang.I made my way to the door, and seeing Harrison through the digital viewer, I didn’t hesitate to open it.“Harr
NATHALIE'S POV 🍃-Calix stooped down and held my arm tightly but carefully to keep me from losing my balance. My expression melted as I looked at him, gazing deeply into his handsome face and his captivating gray eyes.I have many things I want to say, full of reproach and blame, but even though I try to open my mouth, the words just won’t come out.I feel a heavy weight inside me and I am completely worn out.“I’m sorry...”He brought my head to his arm, I felt his other hand rubbing my back.Everything came to mind all at once: all that we and my kids went through starting over four years ago, when he suddenly vanished just when we needed him the most.“C-Calix...” I called, hoarsely. My tears completely giving way and I cried.“Y-You... Y-You... h-had n.. n-no i...i-idea...”I was crying so hard that I couldn’t utter a single word.He stopped patting my back and held me close..I’m not sure how long I cried, how long my mind went blank, however Calix didn’t let go of me the enti
VERONICA'S POV 🍃–“Hahahaha! Holy crap, Harrison! Hahaha!”I couldn’t stop myself from laughing loudly. Yet, every laugh was mixed with annoyance and rage at him and even his friend. My voice echoed throughout the parking lot. I almost fell over laughing.I glimpsed at Harrison. His serious gaze only made me burst out laughing even more.”“You’re so funny. HAHAHAHA!”“Veronica,” he called my name threateningly.I breathed in deeply and looked right back into his serious eyes. “Wow! Listening to you, aski about what happened to me? I could almost believe your concern is genuine.” A soft chuckle slips out at my lips. “I find this hard to believe.”“We may not be friends, but we practically grew up together. That’s why I still concerned about you.”“Stop repeating that, don’t say it ever again—it’s just hilarious. You? Concerned... to me?” I let out a small laugh, then quickly switched back to a serious tone. “If you’re genuinely worried about me, tell me the truth about where Calix is
VERONICA-How did he know? He didn’t know about them for as long as they were there.“You gave them to Brianna a year ago, meaning they’ve been in her room for a year.”His ice stony expression and tone remained but his face and jaw clenched with anger at me.“I don’t know what you’re talking abou
NATHALIE’S POV-At the end, I picked up the money and went back to the ice cream store where they bought ice cream earlier.I placed most of the paper bags in my right hand. My left hand held a few hanging paper bags so I could move and can handle the ice cream. After the ice cream seller gave me
