The day was well advanced when I finally stood before the grave of Nathalie’s and my child. I settled down, my eyes fixed on the name she had bestowed upon our offspring.

“Sapphire... what a lovely name.” A sigh escaped me, tinged with a deep sorrow, as I uttered the complete name inscribed on her tombstone: “Sapphire Davies.”

“Sapphire Watson, that should be your full name, baby.” I whispered as if I was going crazy and telling my daughter what I wanted to tell her.
