I needed to keep the house as guarded as possible. Even if I had to push a hundred men into the living room just to keep her safe, I would do it without thinking twice. At first, I tried working from my study. The silence and stillness gave me some sort of peace. But why would a man like me need peace? When Eunice was still out there searching for ways to take my wife from me. I hated the peace I got in my study so I packed my paperwork and headed for the living room. Being them gave me some sense of reassurance. I mean, even if anything was to happen overnight, I would be the first to get attacked. That was way better for me than Jocelyn getting attacked for the third time. As I worked deep into the night, I pulled out Eunice's previous strategies. Every t
Jocelyn's POV Our call slowly pulled up in the house after a few days at the hospital. My breath hitched as soon as I drove into the house. I darted my eyes around, in a bid to take everything in. The last time I was here, I didn't realize how much I'd miss this space when I left. Those few days at the hospital were a lot. I hated the sterile smell that filled my nose every time and being plugged to machines didn't feel pleasant in any way. I just wanted to feel better. I wound down my window and sucked in a fresh breath of air that hit my nose as soon as we were in the garage. “Ugh, this feels so different.” I thought to myself with my eyes closed. Daniel was sitting right beside me, his eyes scanning every moment I was making. I was so caught up in taking in the environment that I didn't realize the car had actually come to a stop. When I no longer felt the car moving, my eyes fluttered open in shock, only to find Daniel staring at me with patience in his eyes. My stomach
Daniel's POV My legs finally grew too weak to stand. I wasn't tired of looking at her face. Heck, I was still wondering if the whole thing was real but I knew i was too tired to even choose. I couldn't push my body beyond its limit and risk being the one in the hospital bed. Jocelyn probably saw the fatigue in my eyes and quickly shifted to make space for me on her bed. I took the space without hesitating because my head was starting to spin. I still couldn't shake off the worries on my mind. I wanted to hold on to her as much as I could before she'd slip out of my hand…again. Recounting the events of the past hours brought back the memories and fear really creeped up my skin, almost tearing me apart. Her bloody body flashed in my head. The mere sight of her in the pool of blood made my body shiver with fear. What would have i done if she had really lost her life back there? How would I survive losing her? I shuddered at the thought of it. Goosebumps rose on my skin in fear
Jocelyn's POV His hands slowly reached for my face. His eyes held a mix of emotions I couldn't read. I tried telling what was in his gaze but I couldn't. Just a couple of minutes ago, I wad fighting my head off just to see him and now he was standing before me, I couldn't speak. My heart was still racing fast from the shock and relief of setting my eyes on him. I really didn't he would stay or come for me. As his hands lingered on my face, I started to feel something different. A tingle of emotion that I'd never felt from him, not once in all the times we've spent together. My eyes slowly rose to meet his eyes, expecting that he'd break his gaze and deflect…maybe try to switch topics but he didn't do any of that. Instead, he kept his eyes fixated on mine. He didn't flinch, neither did he move his hands. My heart started to pick up the race again. I looked away for a bit, hoping that something would break me out of my imagination and tell me I was just dreaming but as much as I
Daniel's POV My mind was crowded with so much as I approached Jocelyn's room. I had no idea what to expect, I just needed everything to be over at that point. My ears caught loud noises coming from the room but it really didn't sound like her. I mean, why would an unconscious person be shouting so loud that I could hear outside? However, the closer i got to the room, the more the noise heightened. My brows furrowed in confusion. A part of me feared that something might be going on in the room but I couldn't force my body beyond its limit. I knew Jocelyn wouldn't raise her voice if it wasn't needed but I still couldn't shake off the thought that she was crying in pain. I pushed my tired body harder and rushed towards the door.I stepped in front of the door only to be met by sudden silence. I heaved a breath of relief, sucked in my breath one more time and pushed the door open. To my surprise, Jocelyn wasn't lying unconscious on the bed like I left her. She was sitting up, her
141. Jocelyn's POV First, it was my fingers then my eyes slowly fluttered open. The minute my eyes flashed open, a sharp sting of light hit me, instantly forcing my eyes close immediately. A sudden pang of pain coursed through my head like flash. A sharp cry of pain tore through my lips. The pain literally shot through every inch of my head. Within that split second, I could swear I saw my life flash right before my eyes. My breath hitched as I groaned to hold the pain in but it was really unbearable. My head was spinning so hard that I thought it might fall off my neck for a second. My hands gripped the piece of clothing nearest to my side as the pain became just too much to bear. I hissed angrily as the pain continued sizzling through my skin and nerves. For the next few minutes, the pain went on like that until I finally started to exhale and inhale really hard. Then I felt my body slowly return to stillness. However, I couldn't bring myself to ease my body as I was still sc
DANIEL’s POVI turned off the engine and sighed again, checking my watch. My wife had just kept me waiting for over twenty minutes. At a point, I’d considered going inside to confirm she hadn’t collapsed or fainted on the way. It had taken exactly two seconds to perish the thought, and now I’d gone
ETHAN’s POV“And she had the guts to tell me not to work on the design again. Sure, she said it in that fake nice tone but still. The people I’d taken my time to convince, how could she do this to me. She’s totally ruining my plans.” Clarissa whined and I nodded automatically.“Babe.” She called, s
JOCELYN’s POVDarius, the logistics head cleared his throat. “No matter how much or hard we work, I don’t think it will be possible for this show to hold next month. There are things that just cannot work. There are currently shipping delays, we have two key materials stuck in custom and I don’t th
JOCELYN’s POVI closed the meeting room door behind me and looked at the faces of the heads and representatives of all the teams involved in the fashion show preparation. It was obvious from their expressions that I had interrupted their conversation, or better put, gossip. I ignored them and went
