VIVIAN'S POV

The sound of my phone ringing repeatedly pulled me out of sleep. I reached for it with tired eyes and immediately noticed several missed calls from Daniel Mercer, my legal adviser.

Something was wrong.

Daniel never called multiple times unless the situation required my immediate attention.

I returned the call.

“Daniel, what happened?”

“Vivian, the Swiss bank transaction has been approved,” he said.

For a moment, relief passed through me.

Then I heard the hesitation in his voice.

Chapter Nine: The WarrantXavier's POVThe office was silent, and the silence gave my thoughts nowhere else to go. None of my men had knocked in over an hour, and every report on my desk had already been read twice.I sat in my chair with a pen in my hand and my jaw tight, yet I had not written a single word.I was angry, though I could not name anyone in particular to be angry with. Victor deserved it, and so did the Laurents, but the feeling did not belong to any one of them.It stayed with me no matter whom I blamed.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Nadia on that dungeon floor. She had pulled her injured arm against her chest and begged me not to hurt her before I had even touched her.She was only nineteen, and no one that young should have learned to fear a kind voice. Then there was the mark. It was small and crescent-shaped, sitting at the base of her neck exactly where my father had said it would be.I had told myself a hundred times that many people were born with marks,

Chapter 54: The TrapIanMy face stayed calm, even though the goal had only tied the score at two apiece. My thoughts were far from calm. Every time Ariel grinned at me from across the ice, my patience wore thinner.I could not stand her smugness any longer. At the same time, I had to admit privately that she was a very tough opponent. To the spectators, her tanker tactic looked basic. To me, it was a high-level psychological move. Each reckless charge was meant to make us angry and careless, and it had already worked on Aaliyah."Not again," I muttered. "She does not get to play with us twice."The referee blew the whistle for a short pause, and the teams drifted back to their sides. I called everyone into a tight circle near the boards."Listen carefully," I said. "Ariel is not reckless. She wants us to think she is.""She looked pretty reckless when she flattened me," Jackson grumbled."That was her plan," I answered. "She charges, we panic, and her team follows through the gap

Vivian The restaurant was quiet when I arrived. Only a few tables were filled, and soft music played from somewhere near the kitchen. A waiter greeted me at the entrance and led me toward the back, where Adrian was already seated. He was looking at something on his phone. When he noticed me coming, he put it away and gestured toward the chair across from him."Vivian," he said. "Thank you for coming.""Good afternoon, Adrian," I replied politely, and I sat down. There was a distance between us that I could feel immediately. In the past, we had always traded sharp remarks the moment we met. Today, neither of us said anything of the kind. He folded his hands on the table, and I placed my bag on the empty seat beside me."How have you been?" he asked."I am fine," I answered. "Did you ask me here to discuss our previous dispute?"He smiled faintly. "You always get straight to business.""I do not remember us having much else to talk about lately," I said.He did not argue. That surprise

Vivian The atmosphere at Sinclair Holdings felt different when I arrived that morning. The lobby was calm, and the staff greeted me with polite nods instead of the nervous glances I had grown used to. A few of them even smiled. Our legal victory over Lancaster had given the company a stability it had lacked for weeks. The immediate threat was gone, and several executives who had questioned my decisions before now seemed far more willing to listen. I noticed it in the hallway, where two department heads stopped to greet me and asked if I needed anything."They are being very friendly today," I muttered to my secretary as we walked toward the elevator."Yes, ma," she said. "Everyone has been talking about the verdict."I nodded, but I did not let it go to my head. Cooperation that came from a single victory could disappear just as quickly. I knew the difference between temporary cooperation and real loyalty, and I did not intend to confuse the two.The shareholders' meeting began at te

VivianDamien sat in the wheelchair with both hands on the armrests and a nervous smile on his face. I did not smile back. I looked at him slowly, from his face down to the blanket on his knees."Good morning, Damien," I said."Good morning, Vivian," he replied carefully."Do you feel like one of those domineering billionaire CEOs in webnovels?" I asked. "Especially with the wheelchair?"He blinked. "Webnovels?""Yes, webnovels.""That is a very strange thing to say," he muttered, and he looked at his sister for help. She looked at the ceiling."Vivian, let me explain," he began."No." I raised my hand. "Do you have any idea how worried I was? I went to your ward with fruits. Then the doctor called me into his office, and I thought he was going to tell me something terrible.""I can guess what you thought," he said quietly."You cannot." My voice had risen, and two guards near the reception desk turned to look at us. I lowered it. "I could not find you. Nobody told me anything. I foun

DamienMy brother's pale face was all the confirmation I needed. He had known about the breach and kept it from everyone in the room.I did not know why he had done it. I only knew that I would not let it slide."Did Vivian tell you?" he asked suddenly. His voice was low, and it shook slightly. The question surprised me. "No," I said. "She did not."I watched his face as I answered. Shock crossed it, and it looked real. His eyes widened, and he leaned back as if the answer had pushed him."Then who?" he muttered, more to himself than to me.That confused me even more. If he had expected Vivian to be the source, then something had happened between them that I did not know about. I wanted to ask, but I held back. That question could wait. I had come here for a reason, and I would not let him pull me away from it."Is it true?" an older executive asked from the middle of the table. He was holding his glasses in one hand. "Mr. Derevaux, did the CEO just say there is a breach?""I did," I
