LOGINChapter Four
Elara's POV
We both froze on the spot, I didn't believe I had raised my hand on Mason, I adored him so much that I never believed that I could.
"I...I..." I stammered as I tried to get the words out of my mouth but no words came out.
"I'm sorry....I didn't mean to.." I immediately apologized, I acted out of reflex, I just couldn't take all the insults anymore.
I tried holding him, he immediately hung his hand in mid air, signalling I stopped, then dropped his briefcase as he turned and walked out the door, banging the door so loud that it made me flinch.
The house fell dead silent, I fell to my knees as hot tears streamed down my cheeks. This was not marriage, this was a sham and nothing was going to make him love me. All I wanted to do was disappear..or even worse run away but the Lorne family held my own family at the debt they owe.
It was not like our regular fights, this time, it took him two days to finally return home.
I laid in the room the third day, when I heard movements, I was ready to called the estate security when Mason walked in.
The footsteps on the staircase were heavy; as on the previous nights, I would lie drifting in and out of restless sleep until I heard the heavy footsteps. My heart stuck as it pounded against my rib cage. Mason.
The door opened a squeak, as I sat up in bed, shocked and flinging the blanket about me. He stood there upright in the shade, in bulk, in strength. His tie was anything but tight, and his shirt was same several buttons undone at the throat. It was the look of his eyes that held me stark. Worse than angry, something Even than indifference something colder
“Mason…” I whispered.
He gave no reply. He merely strolled toward me, flung-down his jacket on the chair. I gulped and my heart began thumping hard as he approached the bed.
I thought that he would yell a moment. And perhaps turn away. Instead he caught up my wrist and dragged me towards him. His lips pressed mine not sweetly and lovingly, but forcibly.
My body was trembling. My mind was yelling in confusion but my heart… my heart was unfaithful. These were my two years dream. To know his touch To be his, even to stay with him one night.
I never fought it. I couldn’t.
The room was beggared of gagging gasps and of grasping hands. My gown dropped off my shoulders and I lay exposed to his hand. Then he slowed his motions down… He darkened, his hand clenched, he understood.
He froze.
Elara...! his voice was hoarse, with disbelief in it. You, so you have never...”
It gave me a blush of shame. I nodded, and this time I said, yes, you’re my husband. You are all I want.
I think, for one tenuous moment, there was a softening in his eyes. In a single moment it was gone. His lips and his jaw tightened, his eyes became hard. He had to drive the thought away, and burrowed in me as it were to forget what he found.
To him it was no matter. To me it meant everything.
After we were done, I lay shaking against the bedclothes, grasping the blanket to cover my nakedness. Mason already started on his shirt, his back toward me. He did not even look at me. Not once.
With a little sob my lips opened and a broken whisper came, Did it, to you mean...anything?
Silence.
He made no reply. He simply picked up his phone, and before he left the room he said, Don't get the wrong idea. This means nothing.”
The door closed.
And with it most of the hope I had held out crumbled to pieces

.
I felt sore the next morning and it was not my body that was hurt. I sat at the vanity and stared at myself- my red eyes, red swollen lips, bruises on my skin, that were not given out of love, but out of ownership
One short night I fancied I was a married woman. But to Mason I was just another burden.
I knew my answer earlier than I thought I would
In the stairs I halted, as I heard voices below. Mason’s mother. Her cold imperative voice penetrated the walls.
"You are coming along, Mason. At least the Lorne name has a chance now of an heir. She has played her role.
My chest caught. My knees began to buckle. The blood ran out of my face.
it was true He had not approached me in love. Even not by desire. He was there because his mother told him to.
I clapped my hand to my mouth to try and stave off a sob that wracked my body. My body shuddered as my hot tears trickled by my face
It hadn't been a miracle last night. It had not been the opening up of a new chapter.
This was the last stroke of hope of mine.
To Mason I was a receptacle. A stand-in. An image of a shadow of Selene.
And in that moment I knew I could never have his heart.
I staggered back in the room in a haze thinking of the things she had said. A tool Nothing more. Such was the person I had become
I felt I could not breathe. There was a dull pain in my chest which seemed to be crushed by something huge in weight. Nevertheless, there was a part of me, foolish, desperate that had to have it said out of his own mouth. Wanted him to disown it. Wanted him to say it was not true.
I waited until I thought the voices were heard no more before I went downstairs Mason was standing in front of the glass doors with his hands in his pockets, and his features were enhanced to clarity by the glow of the city lights. He was looking something untouchable as always.
"Mason," I called hoarsely.
He turned, with a face that still was impenetrable.
"I heard your mother," I began. " Is that why you made love to me last night? Was it only because she asked you to?”
Between us there was an interval of silence lasting a heartbeat. His form was blurred by my sore tears. His eyes remained cold and distant in mine.
I was compelled to do what had to be done, replied Mason in a dismissive tone of voice almost masking what he really felt. There is a reason as to why this marriage is so. It should not be confused with anything."
I felt tremble on my lips " Yet you were mine, Mason. And all this time… I prayed, I waited...”moving ruefully and slowly.
“Stop.” His tone sliced me like a knife Make no fantasies. "You never were designed to be anything more than what you are at present. I do not love you Elara Vance. Let that sink."
The words pulverized the remaining part of my heart. I reeled away a sob choking in my throat, my palms shaking as I tried to hold myself together.
He did not approach me. He did not narcotize.
As to that, he had simply turned his back to the glass, and was staring out at the city as though I had never been there in the least.
Chapter 21Elara's POV I lay sprawled on the bed as the sun rays escaping through the curtains hit my face. I slowly opened my eyes, and I was still feeling very much asleep, but I couldn't find him around. The bed was empty, and the room was quiet, maintained, and I called. I slowly drifted my dusty. I slowly shut my eyes again, trying to muster the only energy I could find. Slowly, I regained my strength as I sat up, rubbing my eyes. When the duvet fell over my chest, it was only then that it dawned on me that I was without clothes, literally nothing.I gasped,"Wait, what the hell happened last night?" I tried my best to search my brain for the memory of last night, but it all came in flashes. I heard his voice, his deep voice, whispering it to me. It flashed back to my reality. We actually made love last night. I instantly felt a hot blush flush my cheeks and the tip of my nose. I didn't know what to feel, whether to be happy or sad, or to be scared. What if he had changed?
Chapter 20 Elara's pov We walked into the room, I supposed Wanmin, but he hand shut the door behind him, all the tears instantly got replaced by my fear as my heart skipped a bit. I turned slowly to him, he didn't say anything. The room was big with a king-sized bed with rose petals on it saying"Happy honeymoon." But this wasn't our honeymoon we were just drenched in the rain," This is for newly wedded couple...s" I said slowly, dragging my words."I know that....since we couldn't have our honeymoon, don't you think tonight makes it perfect?" He said, my chest tightened as I swallowed hard in nervousness. His gaze was glued to mine, like if he took it off, I'd disappear."Honeymoon?" I scoffed, feigning lack of interest. "Don't you think it's too late for that? We're 3 years in already."Mason flashed a warm smile, "you can say it is considering the way our anniversary went." He said, but I didn't mind.."You need to get dressed, and change into the dress I asked the motel to pro
Chapter 19Mason's POV "Do not test my patience." My father said briefly, his gaze fixed on me. The tension in the room began to increase, I felt a warm hand pull me away from my father."Mason.... please... don't" Elara's small voice said."You! You're the reason for this shenanigans!" my mother charged at Elara. The look of disbelief was all over my face, "What's with you two? You both asked me to marry her shortly after the death of Serene." I could understand why the sudden shift, 3 years ago they shifted me to her and now it's too Betty."You want to know? Yes, we asked you to marry her but what has been the product of this sham marriage? No child! No heir!!""And somehow it's her fault?"I threw back at them, I began hearing sniffing from? Behind me, it was Elara who was crying."You're wrong because in the three years we were married I didn't for once touch her." I dropped the bombshell, but it didn't matter."What are you talking about?" My mom drew close,"You heard me. I kn
Chapter 18Mason's POV There was no way, Brent was telling the truth, but the look on his intercepted my thought of the possibility of him lying."What do they want wth her files and my marriage certificate to Elara?" I asked, but there was no justifying answer for that."I don't know Mason. At first, it's a suspected enemy from your dad's past, and now this..." his voice cracked, "this is a mystery already." He concluded.I turned to Elara, her face went pale, and she was scared to the wits."Do you think Serene is alive?" Elara said as Brent and I turned sharply to her."Alive? She died three years ago from cancer, you know this...so how possible?" Brent questioned, but then it hit me."Or it could be a family friend of hers or an acquaintance."Elara immediately cut in," I doubt that, Serene and her grandmother have been isolated from family ever since her parents died."Just the police chief walked up to me from behind Elara,"We've questioned your domestic staff, they're all say
Chapter 17 Elara's PovThe slap was resounding, sending me off to lose balance, Mason immediately held on to me before I made it to the ground."Mom!" He yelled out loud d, his voice in a thunder, shook me. "How dare you lay your hands on her!"His mother glared at him then back at me, "Why wouldn't I? She put you in the situation!" She groaned, and I stood there my eyes filled with tears waiting to drop from my eyes.Brent stood in confusion, wondering how this was my fault."Really now? Then sorry to break it to you your husband is the cause of all this?" He resorted.Confusion etched her face, "What are you talking about?" She asked, looking at me then back to him."Let's get out of here, Elara" he breathed out, grabbing me by the wrist, he pulled me away, "Brent see that my parents leave his place" he instructed, Brent nodded, just as we were about to get to his car, the chief of police walked up to us."Are you two leaving?""Yes, we are. I'll leave you with our men to handle th
Chapter 16Elara's povPanic flowed through me as he caught my face with his palm, roughly shaking. I was literally drenched in fear. And it was... "You have to trust me, please. We don't have to fight about this," he said warmly. There was something about his voice. It was warm, but faint. I felt my mind shut out of the world I viewed around myself, and I wasn't feeling it. He then helped me into the car as he closed the car door and jumped behind the steering wheelsHis gaze was fixed on the road as he drove down the road under the splattering rain. Outside in the street was low in rain and smoke, but I couldn't get hold of what had just happened. It felt like something had just been in over. Confusion instantly surged through my thoughts, and I managed to ask, "What is going on? Where were you stalking me???'He remained silent with every harmony on the stereo wheel driving through that night, "For how long? Talk to me, Mason! " What is happening," I asked. He turned to me, "I
Chapter 10 She's Hiding Something Mason's POV I drove for a while, the road was clear and dark but the streetlights did justice to it. I parked adjacent to Grandma's house, as I hoped for a miracle and for any one of them to come out.I sat behind my steering wheel, as I deliberated whether I sh
Chapter 9Mason's POV I walked into my room, it was quiet, the sweet scent of Elara was still strong..it was only a matter of time before she disappeared. I tossed my brief case to the well laid bed, as I sat on the chair and took off my shoes. My hands on my forehead as I rubbed them.My phone be

Chapter 14 Elara's POVI always thought the walls of the house of Grandma were cozier than any other place I had ever lived in, but this night the coziness seemed to be coming down like a suffocating blanket. I was sitting crookedly on the old sofa, with my hands round a mug of chamomile tea which
