Chapter 5.

PUNISHMENT TO THE OFFENDER.

JANE'S POV.

My eyes gently open and I grind my legs together to feel the wetness between my legs.

I loved it, both the scent and the feeling from it.

I rolled the calculated movement on my bed, and I grabbed my phone to check the time. I smiled and remembered my dream, the manager was between my legs throughout the night. Sadly, it was all a dream.

"He is taken." The evil spirit in my head reminded me, and my smile dropped.

I got out of bed with a determination, "I won't think about the manager today, I will avoid him like I avoided the old one, and like that, I will survive."

I got dressed and went to the sitting room to see Sarah waiting for me.

"Do you hear the new news about our manager?" She asked me immediately when she saw me. No, good morning, just gossiping early in the morning.

"Not today, Sarah. Everything I want to discuss today with you is about work, and anything aside from that, I'm not available."

I turned to the kitchen to make a cup of tea for myself.

"What is wrong with her?" I heard Hannah asking Sarah.

"I don't know. I think she knows the manager from somewhere." Sarah replied to her.

I turned to them, "On second thought, I think I will eat breakfast in the company." I told them and turned to the door instead.

"Try to force her to talk." I heard Hannah saying to Sarah.

I would love to see her try.

We got to the company, and I parted ways with Sarah to go to the coffee room in the company to make an early morning coffee for myself. I got in and Ben was there with his girlfriend.

I ignored them and went to make my coffee, paying less attention to them until I was done, I left them there.

I got to my cubicle, and there was a pile of files on my desk. I paused and glanced at everyone who was surprisingly very focused on work that morning.

"Sorry, who dumped these garbages on my desk?" I asked.

Everyone turned to me, and I pointed at the pile of files.

Some of them opened their mouths to answer me, but didn't voice out a word, they closed their mouths and continued with what they were doing.

"I said, who..."

I was cut off, "I did."

I paid attention to the person, getting ready to trash him, but the words stuck in my throat.

"Mr Reilly?" I mumbled the manager's name, hoping I pronounced it correctly.

"I put the files there on your desk, and I am expecting you to be done with them in an hour." He said to me.

My face pulled with confusion and I stared between the documents and the manager. "I don't understand what you're talking about, Mr Reilly. Aren't we supposed to be scrutinizing new employees and some old ones who deserve promotion? When do we start doing paperwork in the department about... what now?"

I didn't know where I got that boldness to face him from, I only knew I did.

I knew the reason was that he was not looking scary, though he spoke harshly, however, he didn't look like it.

He moved closer to me and intimidated me with his height and his perfect body. "You are eloquent, Miss Shane."

"Thank you, Mr Reilly."

"Do you know something about eloquent people?" He asked me, and I shook my head. "They always get into trouble with their untamed mouths."

His voice had changed, it was treading the path of that cold way where he would shout my brain out. I could hear it, the silent warning in his voice and the underlying tone daring me to say more words.

I had not begun with new job hunting, so I shouldn't be so senseless with this one.

I smiled at him my best fake smile, one with my eyes hidden inside my skull and my teeth all out. "I think paperwork is better than checking the lives of people all day long, Mr Reilly," I told him.

"That is what I thought too, Miss Shane."

I gently sat down on my seat and kept that smile on until he walked out of sight.

I dropped the smile and angrily gulped down my coffee in one gulp, taking in the hotness to distract myself.

I trashed the disposable cup and slammed my hand on the files, "I. HATE. YOU." I picked the words one after the other and squeezed the file before me like it was the source of my problem.

I got myself back, and my eyes popped at how rough the file that took my anger was. It had even torn on one side.

My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly took the file to reprint another one. I returned to my seat and got busy.

I worked swiftly like I've never done before, and during lunch break, I was busy.

Sarah had invited me for lunch during the break period, but since I was not done with my appointed job, I turned her down.

It was close to the closing period in the company when I was done with the files. I stretched my stiff body and stood up with the files in hand.

I began my journey to the manager's office, and it was not a long distance. I got there and stood face to face by his door.

'What if I enter and he pushes me to the door and takes me right there?' I thought, and giggled. That would be sweet.

I adjusted my shirt and cleaned my unstained teeth with my tongue. I ignored the unstoppable groan from my stomach, which kept on reminding me that I had not eaten anything all day, and I knocked at the door.

"Come in." That was the voice of a girl answering me.

A girl?

I didn't put much thought into it. I opened the door and entered.

"Sir, I'm...." I paused from what I was about to say and halted due to the sight in front of me.

The manager was on a couch in his office, and the vice president was on his lap. She looked so flushed as if they were just done kissing or taking a break from something I didn't want to talk about.

So, it was true. They are engaged.

I didn't know why I wished that news was a lie, but seeing it now broke me.

"Why are you here?" The vice president asked me.

"I came to deliver the documents," I replied to her.

"Oh, those documents in the morning? Trash them, they are to be trashed." The manager told me.

"Wait.. What?" I mumbled with my dead soul, "I worked on this throughout the day." I pointed out to him.

"That is your punishment for all the mistakes you have been making," He told me, "And you just make another."

That was none of my problem. Everything was breaking me. The sight in front of me, the pain of skipping lunch for work, only to know it was not relevant.

Everything hit me.

A lone tear slipped out of my eyes, and I threw the files on the floor.

"I QUIT!"

Jane's POVThe next morning came and I found it hard to get out of bed.The bright sun was already entering my room through the curtains, it was too bright for the kind of mood I was in.I felt heavy, my eyes had gotten swollen from all the crying last night. I grabbed my blanket and wrapped it very tight around me. I wish I could stop the noise in the world, the gossiping people, and the shame.I could still remember the headlines of the news in my head. The more I thought about it the more I felt sick. How could something that felt real, something that filled me with happiness, become such a mess?My phone vibrated somewhere around where my blanket was. I didn't pay attention to it for the few times. It could be more hateful messages. Or more people pretending to care about me just to get more details from me.Then Sarah's voice came from the living room. “Jane? Are you still sleeping?”I didn't answer her. I couldn't say anything.“Come on babe,” Hannah said. “You have been inside

Kennedy's POVThe night felt unusually cold. I stood in front of Mr Shane's mansion. The bright light was shining out of the windows like a beautiful painting from the outside. It looked amazing.I adjusted my tie, breathed in and out but still I wasn't calm. I pressed the doorbell.A guard opened the door immediately. “Good evening, Mr Kennedy. Mr Shane is waiting for you in the dining room.”I walked down the hallway, the sound from my shoe echoing from the floor. The place had a pleasant smell of polished wood and expensive whiskey. My pulse became harder to control with every step I took towards the dining room.Mr Shane was already seated at the end of the long table, perfect composure, like he had been waiting here all night just for me. He wore a dark suit, everything was in place.“Have a seat,” He said, without looking up from his plate. There was no anger in his tone… but it felt heavy. It felt like he was waiting for the right moment to explode.I sat down on the seat oppos

She was sitting behind her desk like she’d been waiting for me all morning. Her red lips curved into that half-smirk that always made my blood boil.“Nice to see you too, Kennedy,” she said coolly, crossing one leg over the other. “I was wondering how long it would take before you came storming in.”“Don’t play dumb with me,” I barked, stepping closer. “You leaked those pictures. You wanted this to happen.”Her smirk faded. “Oh, please. Don’t flatter yourself.”I slammed my palm on her desk, hard enough that a few pens rolled off. “You’re the only one who had something to gain from this.”Jessica’s eyes darkened. “Gain? You think this benefits me? You think I enjoy doing this? You think I'll want to hurt you?”“You’re capable of a lot

And then that picture… the message. It played over and over in my mind like a curse.By the time the sun came up, my pillow was still warm from where I’d been turning all night.Sarah had left early, and the apartment felt heavier than usual. My heart was still somewhere between wanting Kennedy and fearing what could become of us.When I finally got to the office, it was too quiet. The usual chatter didn’t reach my ears. Everyone seemed busy, heads down. I forced a breath, straightened my blouse, and tried to act normal.Whatever normal was anymore.Kennedy’s office door was half open. I slowed down without meaning to. He was there, leaning over his desk, tie slightly loose, sleeves rolled. The sight of him made my chest tighten. He looked up just then. • MY NEW HR IS THE MAN I SLEPT WITH.   Chapter 26 – The Game Begins

Jane’s POVHis hand hadn’t left my thigh since the moment he started driving. “Where are we going?” I whispered finally, breaking the silence that had been sitting too heavily between us.Kennedy’s jaw ticked once, his eyes still on the road. “Somewhere safe.”That word made my stomach knot. Safe? From what? From who?“Safe?” I repeated, turning my head to look at him. “Safe from who?”He glanced at me briefly, then looked forward again. “Don’t worry about that now.”“Don’t worry?” I let out a half-laugh. “Kennedy, someone was watching us. How do you expect me to be calm…”“Jane.” His voice cut sharp, a whip against the thick air between us. “I said I’ll handle it.”I stared at him, my words drying up. The rest of the drive was thick with silence, broken only by the hum of the engine. When we finally slowed, I looked up to see a tall, glass-walled building rising above the city.Kennedy pulled into the underground garage, the guard at the gate instantly nodding and waving him throug
