Chapter 0004

~RAINBOW

What came after the sound of the voice was restlessness.

My wolf began to churn and turn within me. I could not tell if it was the strange voice or Jean's words that prosecuted me more.

Hushed whispers began to float around the crowd as they sang only one name.

"Alpha Nathan. . ."

I widened my eyes, the Alpha was here. How was that even possible? My wolf burned within my soul and I wanted to comfort it but there seemed to be nothing that I could do.

So I turned toward the crowd, only to see them parting ways for the Alpha to come through. Some women began to drool over him as he walked past them in his royal robes which were coupled with normal clothes beneath— but none of the attention seemed to get to him.

As I watched him come, I realised one thing. It was as if the more he approached us, the more my wolf danced wildly in my mind. When he finally reached me, both my wolf and I froze as I took in his features.

He had a height that made a statement and in combination with his well built body, he looked intimidating. His hair was as dark as the night itself and this left all who gazed upon him thinking about the mystery behind his entire existence.

He tied his hair behind his head in a low ponytail and allowed some strays to fall freely. His lips were full and sensual, the type that made women wonder just how they tasted.

Yet all those features were not what enticed me the most. It was his eyes— his emerald green eyes. They bored into mine and left me captivated. His stare made me feel as if he could uncover every secret that I had ever possessed. He made me feel vulnerable yet safe at the same time.

I was prepared to keep getting drowned in his mystery until Jasmine suddenly broke the enchantment.

She dashed into the lawn and held Jean protectively. "I wonder why your pride is this strong when you have no reason to have it in the first place!" She spat.

I broke my gaze away from the beautiful Alpha of our pack and turned to Jasmine in disbelief. I was too stunned by her words as I blinked multiple times while trying to find words to say.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked slowly and in a quiet voice.

Jasmine chuckled bitterly and I could see a burning emotion in her eyes. It was almost as if she had been jealous her entire life.

"What I mean is that people who are supposed to possess your type of pride are people who behold the beauty that can never be rivalled," She stated firmly and I felt my heart drop. "You, my dearest sister-in-law, possess none of these traits!" She stated firmly.

I staggered back at the harshness of her words. It was almost as if she had always had this hatred in her heart and she had been waiting patiently to let it out.

"Rainbow, you're so ugly that babies will take one look at you and scream! To top it up, you're wolf-less! You are an abomination! So you should be the one begging to stay!" She hurled words at me.

The crowd gasped again at the mention of my wolf-less state and the murmurs began to grow louder when suddenly, they got silenced.

"Enough!" Alpha Nathan suddenly cut in and his voice left me overwhelmed again. "Let this be the last time that you stand up to defame my Beta's daughter. What does that make you? Pretty on the outside but ugly on the inside," he snapped.

I stared up at the Alpha in surprise. This was the first time in all my life that someone had ever stood up to the world for me. It was a great deal to me because we were strangers to each other.

So why was he helping me?

Jasmine whimpered in response. The Alpha's words had gotten to her and she found herself at a loss for words.

To my greatest surprise, Jean took over.

"But she's right, my Alpha. Jasmine has done nothing wrong," he stated and this broke my heart. "Rainbow is nothing but a jealous and selfish woman! I've been there for her all this while and one small mistake, she's ready to walk out on me while making a big deal about it after I've tolerated her for the past six months!"

I scoffed. I could not believe my ears. My heart shattered into a thousand pieces as I felt tears threatening to spill.

"Tolerated. . ." I muttered under my breath. He was saying it as if I was some kind of burden and he had been doing me a favor by accommodating me.

"Just shut up. I never asked for your opinion," Nathan spat. Then he turned to me and in a calmer voice, he said, "Tell me exactly what happened, Rainbow."

I widened my eyes immediately and this was because he had used my name. So the Alpha had not forgotten my name. It made my wolf stir again.

Today had to be a special day because not only had my wolf shown proof of existence but it was still moving around within me.

Eventually, I inhaled deeply. Then I shot a glance at Jasmine and Jean for a while— it was an angry and hateful glare— before turning it back to the Alpha.

"I woke up this morning to find that Jean had cheated on me with his sister. They even had the guts to do it in the guest room," I revealed.

The crowd gasped and I saw the Alpha narrow his eyes at me before moving it to Jean.

"That was only because Rainbow is ugly! And don't forget, wolf-less!" Jasmine spat.

Her words hit me hard and got me angrier than I already was. So I turned to them.

"You see, here's something that I've been trying to tell you all through yesterday yet you wouldn't give me a chance to speak. But before that, I shall explain to Alpha Nathan first," I spat. Then I turned back to the Alpha.

"I only got these scars because I jumped into the fire to save Jean but in return, my wolf had to pay the consequences by going dormant because the pain had been unbearable," I explained.

The crowd began to murmur amongst themselves. None of them knew this side of the story since I never allowed the truth to spread but since Jean had already started spilling it, it was best to finish it.

"But at yesterday's session with the doctor, he told me something," I revealed as I threw a glance at Jean. He grew more attentive. "My wolf has started showing signs of healing and she might fully awaken soon. When she does, all my scars will heal and I will be restored to my old glory," I stated firmly.

"My goddess! How vile of you! You could have told me this important piece of information but you chose to stay quiet! How could you?" Jean exclaimed in shock.

I was taken aback by his reaction. I had imagined many but this was nowhere near it.

"What did you hope to get in keeping this information to yourself, Rainbow? What was your plan? You obviously have an evil motive! You're an ingrate! After everything that I have done for you! This is how you repay me?" He added.

I could not believe that this was the same Jean whom I had fallen in love with. How could he stand there and say such terrible things to me? Was I perhaps dreaming or was this truly real?

Strangely, Jean began to boil with anger. I could see the way his body trembled visibly and he began to breathe loudly. Then he launched himself at me.

Yet Nathan suddenly appeared before me and stopped Jean by grabbing him by his neck.

"You will not dare to lay a finger on the future Luna of Black Wood Pack!"

The crowd as well as Jean gasped. My world came to an abrupt stop as I stared up at the Alpha.

What did he say? The future Luna? Me?
