Chapter 59: ♥ Fractured Promises

Dean’s POV

I stumbled into the house, boots dragging against the floor, each step heavier than the last. My chest ached, my muscles tight, and all I wanted was to shut everything out. The couch felt like it was waiting for me, and I collapsed into it with a groan, the weight of the night pressing down on me like chains.

My hands wouldn’t stop shaking. I fumbled with the pack of cigarettes, tugged one free, and lit it with stiff fingers. The flame flickered, catching the paper, and I inhaled like it might give me something solid to hold on to. The smoke clawed down my throat, rough and bitter, but it didn’t calm me. If anything, it burned harder, dragging the storm inside me wider open.

Why now? Why did she have to come back now?

My mother. After years of silence, of nothing but memories and scars, she waltzed back into my life like she had the right. Acting as if she still held control. Acting as if she hadn’t torn us apart the first time. She looked m

Chapter 64: ♥ Passion and PerilNoah’s POVThe ride home was quiet. Too quiet. The hum of the car engine filled the space between us, but inside my chest everything felt loud and restless. Dean’s cold stare still burned in my head. Every time I blinked, I saw his eyes on me, sharp as knives.Enzo parked in front of the house and didn’t say a word. Neither did I. He reached for my hand as we went inside, his touch steady, grounding me even as my thoughts spun.Once inside, he pulled me down onto the couch with him, his arm wrapped tight around me. His body was warm, strong, safe. I let myself lean into him, my face close enough to feel his breath. His dark eyes stayed locked on mine, calm but deep, and that look alone made my pulse quicken. He leaned in, his lips brushing close to mine, about to kiss me. But I stopped him.My hand pressed gently against his mouth. My chest felt heavy, my heart squeezed by the words stuck inside me. I couldn’t keep them in any longer.“I need to tell yo

Chapter 63: ♥ Heartbeats in DangerJames’s POVI trudged down the street toward home, dragging my sneakers against the pavement. Each scuff of rubber sounded louder than it should, like the world had gone quiet just to highlight my nerves. My mind wouldn’t let go of what happened earlier in the cafeteria. The look on Noah’s face when Stan showed up—shaken, angry, unsettled—still stuck with me. It had been enough to put a cold pit in my stomach. Noah wasn’t easy to rattle, not anymore. He had been through too much already. So if Stan could shake him like that, it meant trouble, and not just the usual drama.I shoved my hands into my pockets and kept moving, trying to convince myself it wasn’t my problem. Noah had Enzo, after all. Enzo was supposed to keep him safe. Still, I couldn’t help worrying. A part of me hoped Enzo really would take care of him like he promised.A cool breeze rolled through, brushing against my arms and neck. I shivered and hunched my shoulders, quickening my ste

Chapter 62: ♥ Deadly SecretsNoah’s POVStan’s words rattled in my skull like chains I couldn’t shake off. Dean would kill Enzo. The sound of it echoed so loud it drowned out everything else.A bitter laugh slipped from me, sharp and shaky. My hands trembled as I forced myself to meet his eyes. “That’s nothing new,” I snapped, my voice rising without control. “Dean can’t kill Enzo. You know that. Enzo’s stronger than him. He always has been.”But Stan didn’t look convinced. His eyes were dark, his skin pale, his voice so low I had to lean closer to hear. “You don’t get it,” he muttered, stepping forward, his shoes squeaking against the tile. “Yeah, Enzo’s stronger. But this time… this time Dean can kill him for good.”I froze. My chest rose and fell too fast, air burning in my throat. My voice came out tight. “What do you mean?” I asked, glaring hard. “What’re you talking about, Stan?”He didn’t answer right away. His hand shook as he pulled his phone from his pocket, his thumb fumbli

Chapter 61: ♥ Dangerous TruthsNoah’s POVThe lunchroom buzzed with voices, clattering trays, and the dull scrape of chairs, but all of it blurred as I pushed through the crowd. My tray wobbled in my hands, milk sloshing, and I slid into a seat beside James. He already had that grin—the easy one that said he wasn’t worried about anything. His eyes were bright, mischief sitting in them like it belonged there. For a second, it made me feel normal, like we were just two kids at school instead of everything else hanging over us.“Finally,” he said, poking at the food on his tray. “I thought you were gonna ditch me.”I laughed and set my tray down. “I had to get past the stampede,” I said. “You know how it is.”James leaned closer, his voice playful. “So, how are you holding up, Noah?” he asked. “Is everything okay with you and Enzo? Is he giving you a hard time?”His tone was teasing, but I could tell he was curious. My cheeks warmed, and I lowered my eyes to the food in front of me, hidi

Chapter 60: ♥ Betrayed Bonds Dean’s POVStan’s words hit me like a punch to the gut. Reject each other. He had said it and then walked away, his footsteps heavy on the stairs until the sound faded. I stayed where I was, frozen, heart hammering, lungs tight. For a long minute I only listened to the house breathe around me and to the blood rushing in my ears. When I finally moved, I sank back onto the couch. My hands shook so badly I could feel it in the cigarette pack. I didn’t want to think. I didn’t want to feel what his words had done to me. But they burned under my skin. He didn’t mean it, did he? I tried to tell myself that, but the doubt gnawed at the edges of my calm.Vex growled behind my thoughts, low and accusing. You pushed him too far, Dean. Fix this. His voice cut through me sharper than anything else. I pulled a cigarette out, lit it with hands that didn’t want to obey, and held it between my lips. The smoke was bitter and hot when I drew it in; it bit into the back of m
