Miley's POV:

The tires screeched as Archie pulled on to the highway, speeding down the empty road like a man possessed.

“Archie, stop the damn car!”

I shouted, slamming my palm against the dashboard. “Have you lost your mind?!”

He didn’t even look at me.

“You’re just confused right now, baby” he muttered, eyes locked ahead.

“You don’t remember… but I do. I remember our love. I remember us. And today, I’ll remind you too!”

I fumbled for my phone in my coat pocket. My heart was running a marathon, but I kept myself in control, calmly pulling it out without any jerky movements.

But before I could even unlock it, he reached over and snatched it from my hand.

“No! Miley, I won't let you drag any third person into this.”

I laughed bitterly, my voice slicing through the car like broken glass.

“And you're the one saying this? The guy who not only invited a third person into our relationship, but also fucked her right before our engagement?”

“I don’t care about her!” he barked.

Miley's POV By the time the meeting ended, my jaw ached from the polite tension I had worn like armor all morning. Still, it had gone smoothly—better than I could’ve hoped, actually. I attended two more briefing sessions, mostly project overviews and budget syncs. Everyone was professional. A little nervous. A little too rehearsed. But not openly hostile.Progress, I guess. After the final session, I finally retreated to my office. The door shut with a soft click behind me. I rolled the chair forward and sank into it with a quiet sigh. My back touched the leather, and for the first time that day, I let myself feel a moment of relief. My eyes drifted to the edge of the desk. There it was.A photo of my mom—her smile bright, her posture always elegant but never cold. Next to it was a newer frame of Tulio and me in the garden a few weeks ago, his cheeks puffed out with laughter and jam stains. I smiled softly. And next to that… an empty frame.I stared at it for a beat longer than I sho

Miley's POV: Emily stood at the far end of the room, surrounded by a cluster of junior designers. She was perfectly styled, as always in a silk blouse, hair styled in a sleek bun, and that familiar performative smile that looked sweet to the untrained eye but felt like poison to me. “Miley!” she said, like we were best friends who hadn’t seen each other in years. “We were just discussing next quarter’s campaign strategy. I know you might be a little out of touch with our current portfolio—would you like me to walk you through the basics?” A couple of the interns chuckled politely. Not at me, not exactly. But definitely because of her. Classic power move. Sweetly patronizing. Right on brand. I didn’t blink. I walked in like I hadn’t just been declared dead in their files six months ago. Like I belonged here. Like I had never left. I slid into the chair at the head of the table and calmly set down the heavy black binder in front of me. Gold initials stamped into the leather. My in

Miley's POV A few hours had passed since the chaos of the afternoon. The house had grown quieter, shadows stretching across the marble floors as dusk gave way to night. I was curled up on the chaise in the study, a thin throw wrapped around my legs, when my phone buzzed beside me.Nico.His name on the screen made my chest tighten in that strange, heavy way it always did when I thought of him after a silence. I opened the message.“It’s been handled.”That was all he had said, just three simple words. I stared at them for a moment. Wondering what exactly “handled” meant in Nico’s world. There were lines he would rather not have me cross, and I could respect that. My fingers hovered for a beat before I typed:“Thank you.”I set the phone aside, exhaling through my nose.It wasn’t over, but the danger that had wrapped itself around me like a noose was beginning to loosen.Just then, a second notification pinged. Not a message this time. An encrypted file from my private legal line.

Miley's POV The evening had turned quiet, painted in bruised shades of lilac and grey. The clouds had begun to pull back, letting in thin stripes of orange light across the balcony. A soft breeze stirred the curtains beside me, but I didn’t move. I just sat there, staring at the fading horizon like it owed me answers.Nico had left a little while ago, his voice low and careful as he leaned in close and kissed my forehead.“There are things I need to take care of. Some fallout from today… and Archie’s mess. I’ll be back soon.”I had smiled and told him I was fine, and that I was just planning to rest. He looked at me for a long moment before finally walking away, his hand trailing along my back like he didn’t quite want to leave. But now, alone in this silence, I felt the ache crawling under my skin. Not pain, exactly, but a sense of anticipation and dread in my chest that hadn’t eased all day.I didn’t expect things to fall neatly into place, of course. Before stepping back into this

Miley's POV:The car screeched, and the tires smoked. We jerked to a violent halt, sandwiched between two black SUVs, the world spinning in my ears.I didn’t wait.I threw my weight against the lock, trying to wrench it up with trembling fingers, but it was stuck. The driver-side door flung open a heartbeat later. Heavy footsteps. A shadow.Nico.He stepped out from the SUV, expression carved in stone, the rage in his eyes the kind that froze blood instead of boiling it.He didn’t say a word.He reached into the car, grabbed Archie by the collar like a misbehaving dog, and yanked him out in one brutal motion.Archie stumbled, tried to recover, fists half-lifted in defense—but Nico shoved him hard against the hood of the car. The sound of bone meeting metal echoed in the night.“You’ve got three seconds,” Nico said, voice like black ice. “Three. To explain why I shouldn’t break your jaw.”Archie coughed, already dazed. “She—she wasn’t listening—”Wrong answer.Nico struck. One punch to
