Mag-log inI could feel my heart beating so fast as I held the doorknob of the drawing room. I don't even know why but for no apparent reason, I feel so nervous about what they might say.
I took a deep breathe before finally having the courage to open the door and enter the room.
The moment I entered the drawing room, I saw Mr. and Mrs. Denmarks sitting on the couch together with Mia who appeared to be crying a while ago. Her eyes were puffy.
I curtsied in front of them. "G-Good evening, Madame, Milord, and Lady Mia..."
“Take a seat, Elodie,” Mr. Denmarks said to me.
“T-Thank you..”
I can’t help but feel nervous as I sat down on the couch in front of them I could feel their gaze directly at me. I wonder if I did something wrong. What if they just kick me out of their house? What if they take me away from Aunt Sally?
“So, Elodie. For sure you’re wondering why we asked you to come here at this hour,” Mrs. Denmarks broke the silence between us four.
I raised my head and looked at them. “D-Did I do something wrong? I-I apologize if I did. Please, just don’t kick me out of this house. I don’t know where I would go…”
I got surprised when Mrs. Denmarks and Ella suddenly laughed. “Oh my god, you are so funny!”
“H-Huh?”
“Don’t worry, Elodie. We are not going to kick you out of this house,” Mr. Denmarks said to me.
I heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing that. “Thank you so much!”
“We’re not going to kick you out of this house if you continue being a good servant and being obedient,” said Mrs. Denmarks.
“Y-Yes, Madame. I will try my best to be a good servant. I will follow everything that you say.”
“Really?”
“Y-Yes.”
Mr. and Mrs. Denmarks exchanged glances before Madame Hannah gazed at me again, “So, for sure you know about Mia’s upcoming wedding.”
“Y-Yes, I know…”
“Are you also aware that her fiancé is a mafia boss?”
I nodded my head. “Yes, madame…”
“What are your expectations about a mafia boss?”
“U-Uh… Based on what Ella used to tell me, a mafia boss tends to do bad things. They also kill and hurt people…”
“Exactly. That is why we can’t let our Mia meet that mafia boss alone next week. We don’t know, he can hurt her or worse, kill her. But anyway, he’s going to marry her anyway. Let me get straight to the point now. We want you to meet with the mafia boss in replacement of Mia.”
My eyes widened because of what she just said. “H-Huh?”
“You just have to tell him that Mia can’t go because she is sick.”
“B-But what if he gets mad at me? W-What if he tries to hurt me?”
“Then that means we can’t let our Mia marry him.”
“B-But Madame—
“Elodie. You just told us that you don’t want to get kicked out of this house, right? Then do it. If you don’t want to do it, then you may leave this house just not with your Aunt Sally. Sally still has a lot of debt from us that she has to pay for the rest of her life.”

“Elodie, are you sure about this? I told you, you don’t have to do this. That man might kill you…” Aunt Sally said to me with her eyes brimming with tears.
“I have to do this, Aunt Sally. If he ever tries to hurt me, then I’m going to fight him. You know I once learned how to do martial arts, right?”
“Elodie…”
I hugged her tightly. “You don’t have to worry about me, Aunt Sally. I’d rather meet up with such a cruel man than leave you here alone.”
“Promise me you’d come back safe, okay?”
I nodded my head. “I promise.”
I waved goodbye to Aunt Sally as I stepped inside the limousine that would bring me to the mafia boss’ mansion. The moment the door of the car closed and I could no longer see Aunt Sally, tears started streaming down my face.
I’m so scared….
“Elodie, we’re already here,”
I opened my eyes and saw one of the Denmarks’ men waking me up. I didn’t notice that I actually fell asleep while crying. I sat up and fixed myself as I peered out of the car window.
My heart started beating so fast the moment I saw an enormous black gate. There were also lots of men wearing black suits outside as if guarding the house.
“Only the woman can enter the house,” one of the guards said to the men who were with me.
“Elodie, we’re going to come back here tomorrow to pick you up,” Brad, one of the Denmarks’ men said to me.
“H-Huh? I-I’d be staying the night here?”
He nodded his head. “We’ll be back tomorrow.”
Before I could even call them again, they already stepped inside the car and drove off.
“Please, follow me.” The man wearing a black suit said to me.
I had no choice but to follow him as the gate went open.
My eyes widened and my mouth went agape upon entering the enormous gate. Inside that gate was an enormous modern mansion made of mostly glass, steel, and concrete. To one side of the mansion was a sparkling infinity pool that seems to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, creating an illusion of endless water and sky.
Just like outside, there were also five men guarding the main door of the mansion.
That mafia boss must be so important that he has a lot of people to guard him at his house.
There were glass everywhere, making every corner of the house visible for any visitor. Even the stairs were made of glass I had to walk carefully, so it won’t break.
My whole body began to tremble the moment we stopped in front of a huge black door where the name, ‘Henry Vonstein’ is carved.
The man who guided me opened the door for me. “You may come in. Lord Henry is waiting for you inside.”
I wore a green long sleeves shirt paired with dark blue jeans which I like wearing whenever I go outside. I didn’t know where we were heading to, but I made sure I was wearing something that won’t make the young master look at me the way he looked at me at the boutique. “You just made it obvious that you’re a servant because of what you are wearing right now, Elodie,” Young master Henry commented the moment he saw me. “B-Because I am, young master. I am your servant.” “Hop in,” he said as he opened the car door for me. “I-I will sit at the back, young— “Elodie, I am not your driver. Sit where I am asking you to sit on,” he said while looking directly into my eyes. I nodded my head nervously, “Y-Yes, young master.” I slid in. The leather was cold through my jeans. He shut the door for me and walked around to the driver’s side. “Y-Young master, may I know where we are heading to?” I asked, breaking the silence between the two of us. He didn’t take his eyes off the road
"I told you! The young master likes you very much!" Daisy cooed while we were on our way to the market."No, he doesn't.""If he doesn't like you, then why would he ask you to bake cookies for him? And you know what? I think he also got jealous when he heard that you baked some cookies for your professor."I shook my head. "Daisy, young master Henry is engaged. Also, he would never have feelings for someone like me. I am just a nobody."“Come on.. Don’t you even watch dramas on TV? Rich men usually fall in love with poor women!”“That’s on drama, but this is real life. That can never happen here.”“Fine. How about you? Don’t you have feelings for the young master?”I was taken aback because of what she just said. I stopped walking. Daisy also stopped while looking at me skeptically.“O-Of course, I don’t. He is already engaged, Daisy.”“You didn’t have to stop walking just to say that…” she said, obviously not believing what I just said.“W-Well, I only stopped because we are already
“So, why did you bake cookies for your professor? Don’t tell me you have a crush on him or what?” young master Henry said as I put the cookies inside the oven . My hands jerked. The tray clattered against the rack. I shut the oven door and turned around slowly. Young master was still on the bar stool, one leg crossed over the other. Pajamas, messy hair, but his eyes were sharp. Young Master eyes. The kind that got answers whether you wanted to give them or not. “N-no!” The word burst out of me, too loud, too fast. I curtsied without thinking. “Young Master, I don’t— he’s a professor.” His eyebrow went up. “So?” “So,” I said, flustered, “I don’t have a crush. I was just… I was careless. I ran into his building during the rain. I got his grant applications wet. With flour on my shoes. He let me borrow his umbrella so I wouldn’t get sick.” He was quiet. "And you bake for everyone who’s nice to you?” I blinked. “W-what?” “Just because of that, you decided to give him cookies?” My
My heart was beating so fast and my hands were so cold as we reached the Medicine building.“Elodie, just be polite. Thank him, give the umbrella back, and then leave. In that way, he wouldn’t be able to scold you,” Ella said to me.I nodded my head as I gulped. “O-Okay.”We approached the lady at the front desk of the building. She was a beautiful lady with a bob cut which suited her adorable face.“E-Excuse me…”She looked up at us and a smile immediately flashed on her face. “Hello there. How can I help you?”“H-hi,” I managed, bowing my head a little. “I’m… I’m here to return something. To Dr. Westwood? He… he let me borrow his umbrella yesterday.”I held it out with both hands. The wood was still a little damp from the rain this morning. I dried it as best I could, but I was terrified there’d still be a mark. The lady’s eyes lit up. “Oh! You’re the umbrella girl!”My whole face went hot. Umbrella girl. He told her about me?“Y-Yes…”“Oh, he’s in his office. Just knock on that doo
ELODIE’S POVI still can’t erase those words the young master said to me yesterday.“It looks like you think about that kiss all of the time.”Do I really look like that? My cheeks burn just remembering it. Well, I avoid him because I do feel awkward whenever he’s around, but that kiss… I’ve been trying to erase it from my mind. I try my best every single day to finally get rid of that memory.Elodie, stop thinking about that kiss now. What’s important is that I will never try to avoid the young master again. I’ll just act as if nothing happened. That’s right. In that way, he would be able to ignore me, too.I kept on mumbling to myself while walking, clutching my recipe folder to my chest. The rain made me late for my pastry practical, so I cut through the Medicine building. I’m not supposed to be here. I’m Culinary Arts. But Chef Dorman locks the kitchen at 7:50 and it’s 7:35.Just act normal. Like nothing happened. Like you’re not thinking about—Thud.I walked straight into someon
Henry's POV Most men get nervous before a meeting with the Kuznetsovs. I get bored. Their boss, Viktor, sat across from me in the back room of The Obsidian, sweating through his cheap suit while his men fingered their guns like that meant anything. I didn’t bring guns. I brought Perry and two numbers on a piece of paper. Numbers that would bankrupt Viktor by Tuesday if he didn’t sign. “You’re asking me to bleed, Henry,” he said, tapping the contract. I smiled. The one that made my father’s enemies sign faster. “I’m asking you to breathe. Bleeding’s what happens if you say no.” Luca didn’t move. He never did. That was the point. Viktor signed. They always do. That’s my usual life. Numbers. Threats. Men who think they’re dangerous learning they aren’t. I walk out of rooms and buildings change ownership. I say a name and people disappear. Clean. Efficient. Cocky, as my father used to spit before he died and left me his empire. Then I get home to the Denmarks' house and my

"Elodie, I think the mafia boss likes you," Daisy said while we were at the mansion's garden, watering the plants. My eyes widened as I looked at her, "W-What? Are you serious about that?""I am. It's so obvious from the way he looks at you and those words that he told you yesterday. I am really p
No one was talking between the young master and I while we were inside his car on our way back to the Denmarks’ mansion. “Where have you been?” Mia asked Young master Henry the moment we stepped out of the car. I waited for them to enter the mansion first before I started running until I reached
“Are you sure that’s what the young master wants?” Daisy asked me when she saw me holding a tray with only a slice of bread and a cup of coffee.I nodded my head, “H-He actually asked me about my usual breakfast and I told him that I usually have only a cup of coffee and a slice of bread in the mo
