The boom of the gunshots vibrated right through the floorboards. Giovanni’s posture shifted instantly, his eyes darkening as his predatory instincts kicked in. He didn't know who it was yet, but he sensed it was one of his opponents staging a coordinated attack on his home.

He turned to Rosa, his voice dropping to an absolute, commanding whisper. "Do not come outside. Stay in this room, Rosa. Do not move from this exact spot."

Before she could even nod, Giovanni strode over to a sleek mahogany drawer across the room. He pulled it open, reaching into the false bottom and pulling out a heavy, black handgun.

Rosa watched him, her eyes wide with a mix of terror and utter disbelief. How does this man have a gun stashed in almost every single corner of this house?

Giovanni racked the slide with a lethal metallic snap, then tapped his earpiece, instantly contacting his right hand. "Vivienne. Be on high alert. We have a breach."

Without another word, he vanished into the hallway, shutting the door firmly behind him and leaving Rosa alone in the suffocating silence.

Giovanni marched down the grand marble staircase, his weapon drawn, ready for a bloodbath. But when he reached the foyer and looked out through the shattered glass of the front entrance, the fury inside him mutated into something entirely different.

Standing in the courtyard, surrounded by a cloud of gun smoke, was Elena Marchetti.

On the manicured lawn lay three of Giovanni's prized guard dogs. She had shot them dead in cold blood, their bodies completely still.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Giovanni shouted, his voice echoing like thunder across the estate as he stormed out into the open.

Elena scoffed, a bitter, twisted laugh leaving her lips as she lowered the smoking barrel of her weapon. "What is wrong with *me*?"

"How dare you disgrace me like this? How can you do this in my own home?" Giovanni growled, stepping closer, his knuckles white around his firearm. He took a breath, trying to control the volatile situation. "Calm down, Elena."

In response, Elena whipped the gun up, pointing it straight at his chest.

On any normal day, Giovanni’s elite bodyguards would have obliterated anyone who dared to intrude into his home, let alone raise a weapon at the Don. But this was his fiancée they were talking about. She was a mafia princess, the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the syndicate. The guards stood frozen, terrified of sparking a full-scale clan war.

However, the second the barrel pointed directly at Giovanni, the guards' instincts overrode their hesitation. A dozen weapons clicked, pointing straight at Elena’s head.

Giovanni immediately raised his free hand, signaling his men to stand down. They slowly lowered their weapons, though their fingers remained on the triggers.

"Come inside, Elena," Giovanni insisted, his voice low and dangerous.

"Say whatever you have to say right out here!" Elena shrieked, refusing to budge. "You don't get to embarrass me in public and then expect to talk to me in private!"

"Inside. Now," Giovanni repeated, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Upstairs, the sudden, eerie silence downstairs was driving Rosa insane. The gunshots had ended almost as quickly as they had started. Unable to take the suspense any longer, she defied Giovanni's explicit orders. She quickly shed the oversized white shirt and slipped into the stunning burgundy sundress he had picked out for her earlier.

Treading as softly as a ghost, Rosa stepped out into the hallway and walked toward the grand balcony overlooking the lower level. She took a quiet peep down toward the grand sitting room where the shouting was coming from.

Elena had finally marched inside, her chest heaving with rage as she faced Giovanni.

"This marriage is not happening," Giovanni said, his voice entirely flat, entirely cold. "It's over. I won't be going on with it anymore."

Elena stared at him, her face turning pale before twisting into pure fury. "Is this a joke to you, Giovanni? You wouldn't dare."

She stepped closer, her heels clicking sharply on the marble. "What is the reason? Tell me!"

Before Giovanni could even open his mouth to answer, the heavy double doors of the villa were slammed open. Rossi, Giovanni’s father, stormed into the sitting room, his face purple with rage. Walking right beside him was his close friend and ally, Antonio.

Rossi didn't even wait to close the distance. He pointed a trembling, furious finger straight at his son as he marched toward him. "You jerk! How could you do this in front of everyone?! Disappearing on your wedding day and being completely unreachable?!"

The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife. Giovanni stood his ground, entirely unmoved by his father's explosive entrance. He looked between Rossi and Elena, his jaw set.

"I already said what I had to say," Giovanni repeated, his voice echoing up to the balcony where Rosa was hiding. "The marriage will not go on."

Antonio, seeing the absolute disaster unfolding, quickly faced Rossi, raising his hands in a placating gesture. "Rossi, please. I apologize on Giovanni's behalf. Let's just breathe. I promise he doesn't even mean—"

"It doesn't matter what he wants anymore," Elena interrupted, her voice suddenly dropping its screeching tone, replaced by an icy, venomous confidence.

Everyone in the room froze. Up on the balcony, Rosa held her breath.

Elena looked Giovanni dead in the eye.

"Does it mean nothing to you that I'm carrying your child?"

When they got outside of the gambling house, the cool night air hit them, but the tension between them was still burning hot. Giovanni walked her over to the passenger side of the Aston Martin and went to open Rosa's door for her. She entered inside without a word.Giovanni closed the door, walking around the hood of the sleek car. But immediately as he opened his own door to enter, the passenger side swung open again. Rosa stepped out immediately. She marched straight over to him, her eyes flashing with a mix of possessive fury and adrenaline. Because she wasn't nearly as tall as him, she had to stand all the way up on her toes to bridge the gap. Then, she kissed him. She kissed him so bad, pouring all of her pent-up anger and desire into his mouth.Giovanni was caught entirely off guard. Stunned by her sudden boldness, he instinctively tried to turn his head to see what had brought this on, but Rosa wasn't having it. She used her hands to hold his head firmly in place, keeping his l

Rosa looked at him with a gaze of absolute disbelief, silently asking what do you mean? Because even though they were in a private sector of the VIP lounge, the space was still entirely open to the rest of the high-end crowd. It was not an enclosed area at all, and anyone glancing over could see them. But Giovanni didn't care about the audience. He simply signaled again with a sharp, demanding tilt of his head that screamed she should come over right now.She hesitated for a long moment, her heart hammering against her ribs. Finally, she let out a quiet sigh, got up from her seat, and walked slowly toward him. She stood right in front of him, but before she could say a word, Giovanni reached out, grabbed her waist, and pulled her down onto his lap.He took the cigarette he had been smoking earlier, crushed it out in a nearby crystal ashtray, and turned his full, undivided attention to her."Are you nervous?" he asked, his voice a low, raspy murmur.Rosa held his gaze, trying to mainta

The thick tension in the basement dissipated the moment Giovanni shifted his stance. Instead of the cold-blooded Don who had just presided over a brutal interrogation, he smoothly dismissed the entire horrific scene as if nothing had actually happened. A faint, almost charming smile touched his lips as he stretched his hand forth toward her."Come," Giovanni said softly, his voice completely steady.Rosa stared at his outstretched palm, her heart still hammering against her ribs, but she found herself stepping forward anyway.Giovanni closed his fingers gently around hers, guiding her away from the shadows and toward the stairs. "You really shouldn't be wandering around the house, Rosa. First, you're sneaking into my study, and now you're down here in my business."Rosa swallowed hard, trying to find her voice as they walked away from the suffocating scent of iron and concrete. "Is... am I not allowed to enter the study?"Giovanni let out a low, quiet chuckle. "Oh, you are allowed. In

The black fountain pen glided effortlessly across the thick parchment, the sharp scratching sound the only noise cutting through the suffocating silence of the penthouse office. Giovanni Blackwood set the pen down, the dark ink glistening under the dim, ambient lighting. He slid the document across the mahogany desk toward his secretary, a sharp, impeccably dressed man who stood at absolute attention."Send this across immediately," Giovanni commanded, his voice cold and cutting. "Inform them that the major acquisition between our company and the Marchetti group is officially dead. We are pulling out."The secretary took the papers with a crisp bow of his head. "Right away, sir."With a weary exhale, Giovanni reached forward, his fingers brushing the edge of his laptop, about to close it and finally end a grueling workday. But before the screen could snap shut, the double doors of his office burst open.Vivienne stepped inside. Her usual composed, icy demeanor was fractured, her expre

Rosa walked down the grand marble staircase, her mind completely spinning. Every step she took felt heavier than the last. Knowing that Giovanni had willingly sacrificed his own childhood, his voice, and his entire future just to buy Leo's freedom completely rewired how she looked at him. He wasn't just a cold, ruthless billionaire power player anymore; he was a protector who carried the weight of the world on his shoulders so the people he loved didn't have to.She glanced at Leo walking beside her, who had effortlessly slipped right back into his cheerful, easygoing demeanor, as if he hadn't just revealed a tragic family secret. As they reached the bottom of the stairs and stepped back into the living room, Nina was sitting on the edge of the sofa, arms crossed, tapping her foot impatiently. The throw pillows were still scattered all over the floor from their earlier battlefield."Finally," Nina said, her eyes instantly locking onto Leo with that familiar, fiery spark. "I was about

There was so much to catch up on. They spent the next hour sitting close together, talking about everything from their nonexistent love lives to the grueling stress of university. Nina had actually just finished her degree, but she leaned in close, her eyes shining with excitement as she shared her real dream."I'm planning to go to fashion school," Nina revealed, her voice dropping to a softer, more emotional register. "I really want to follow in my mom's footsteps."A collective wave of nostalgia washed over them both. Their mothers’ bond wasn't just a memory; it was the foundation of their entire childhood."You know, my mom's very last piece—the last dress she ever designed before she passed—is still with me," Nina said, looking at Rosa with deep affection. "Would you like to have it? I know how much she loved you. And honestly, would you ever want to pursue a career in fashion design yourself? We could do it together."The question hung beautifully in the air as the two girls com
