Chapter 50

Lucy

When we enter a cave to seek shelter from the rain, the first thing I pick up on is the scent of a wet dog. A shudder runs up my spine, and I act on pure instinct and step in front of Raven to protect her.

I spread my wings as a shield. "There are other creatures in this cave," I tell Raven coldly, sniffing the air before glaring into the dark. "It reeks of dog, dragon, and bats."

Raven giggles, and then there are footsteps echoing against the walls and someone calling her name. Her friends are here—terrific. I stand back in bitterness.

I haven't gotten to kiss or bond with my mate yet—imagine my anguish when this guy I burned pops out of nowhere. His hair is dark, and his arms are massive, engulfing Raven as they hug each other. I have to bite the inside of my mouth not to snatch her away from him.

"Blake!" Raven is laughing as the guy is spinning her around. She sounds happy, which calms me. "You're alright!"
