The cab pulled up to the driveway.

“Wow, madam this is quite the setup you got here,” the driver said, admiring the house with a low whistle.

“Is it?” She asked, staring at the house, its elaborate image but only she saw the truth. The house had a lonely feel to it now. “It looks sad to me.”

“Such a fine place could never look sad, lady.” He laughed.

It was empty and devoid of joy, it looked how she felt. She got out of the cab, paid the man. She stood there watching the cab pull out and drive away. She turned to the house hovering over her ominously.

She was going to enter that house and she won't be welcomed by the sound of her son's laughter anymore. She hugged herself, walking into the house, her footsteps echoing in the silent driveway. The sounds of birds chirping and the whistling wind welcomed her as she arrived at the doorstep. She hesitated a bit, taking a deep breath as she did, then she opened the door and entered the house, closing it shut behind her and blocking the sou

Cassian was swamped. He rubbed his temples, glanced at the work before him, and groaned.“I understand sir, but this is something that has to be attended to before the day is over.” His assistant, Steven, said.Cassian raised his head, sitting back in his chair. His brown hair flopped on his head and his blue eyes reflected how tired he was.“Is there a reason the bill is this amount, Steven?” He asked.Steven cleared his throat, adjusted his tie a little, then continued, “Well, sir, your nephew decided to strongarm his way into the hospital and got himself a private room. For his companion of course.”He raised his brow at that, “His companion? Not his wife? Who was the person he got the room for?”“It was registered under the name of Christa Lance.”His forehead furrowed deeply in thought, the name felt vaguely familiar but he could not quite place it, “Go on.”“Well, she came into the hospital with multiple bruises, but none of them were life-threatening, but they were a lot.” Stev

Marybeth was in the dining room seated, waiting patiently for her lunch to be served. She held her fork and knife with obvious tiredness.“Is everything okay, madam?” one of the staff asked her. This was after they had served her meals, “You’re eating without your son today.”Her hand froze, just as she was about to dig into the meal. She ignored the question and continued to eat her meal.“Madam?” the staff tried again, “Will young Christopher not be joining you for lunch?” Silence, she ignored her again.“Will he be here for dinner instead?”Marybeth dropped her fork, and it clattered as it fell on the table. “Is there a reason I'm getting the third degree from you?” She snapped.“Ma’am?” She looked at Marybeth in shock, unused to this side of her.“I said, What are you giving me the third degree? Interrogating me like you are the one paying my salary.”“No madam. I would never. I apologize. I was just-” she bowed.“You just- nothing. You’re not paid to ask me questions, you’re pai

The mansion belonged to Cassian Renfry, Logan’s uncle, or his bastard uncle as he liked to call him within the confines of his mind, of course. It was an interesting thing, how much hate Logan harboured against his uncle yet he did not hesitate to use his things like they were his; the hotel and now this place. “Ok, wow, this place is amazing,” Christa said as they followed closely behind the butler.“Your compliment is much appreciated, miss.” The butler said.He led them up past the hallway and the living room, deeper into the mansion till they reached a separate wing. They stopped short at the entrance, and he turned to them. He glanced briefly at Christa before he turned to face Logan.“Mr. Renfry, as I am sure you are aware, the upstairs floor is off limits to everyone but Master Cassian.” He said to him.Logan glanced nervously at Christa, then back at the man before him, “Yes, I’m aware. You did not need to remind me.” He said, snapping lightly.“I feel it could be necessary,

Furious, that was hardly enough to describe the feeling welling up inside him. How dare she disregard him like that? Logan's hands squeezed the steering wheel tighter.“Is everything okay?” Christa asked him, eyes watching him cautiously. “It's nothing.” He replied, barely glancing at her, eyes focused on the road, brows furrowed.“It doesn’t feel like anything.” She insisted, “Were you that bothered by your wife's presence at the hospital?”“No.” He wasn't bothered that she was there; he was bothered that she followed him all the way to the hospital, yet acted like he was worthless; that was what was vexing him. Why would she come to find him if that was how she was going to act? “I just can't believe she came all the way to the hospital to find me yet she acted like that.” He said to her.Find him? Christa chuckled to herself, men really were blind. He didn't notice the bandages that Marybeth wore, it was obvious she was signing discharge papers, but of course, he had to think it

She was at the reception signing the necessary documents for the release of her son's body and paying for the hospital bills. Logan was still inaccessible- she had no phone, and the number she remembered was no longer the one he was using; she had not memorized his new one. “When will you be sending someone to come and get your son, Mrs Renfry?” The lady at the reception asked her, her tone soft with worry. “I'll have someone come before the day is over,” Marybeth responded. “Alright, ma'am. Do you have a way to get home? We could call you a cab if you need one.” The receptionist offered. Marybeth thought for a minute, and she really did not have a way to get back home. She nodded her head, “Yes please, that would be much appreciated.” “Alright then. I'll notify you when it's here. Please be patient. “ The receptionist said to her. “Okay thank you.” She continued signing. Then suddenly there was loud laughter coming down the hallway. She sighed internally. What kind of peopl
