Chapter 38
Misha POV
I knew it was a terrible idea to travel to America with Dmitry. I had been working hard to flush Avery out of my system and here I was running right back to her. Living under her roof, sleeping in a room close to her for two weeks. I knew her and Sasha were perfect for each other but I couldn’t help the feeling of disappointment that they had moved in together. I wanted a taste of her, and to prove to her that I was a good match.
‘Mishka!’ Dmitry called as he entered my mom’s house. I picked up the bag I had just finished packing, kissed my mama goodbye and got into Dmitry’s rental car. I was glad Dmitry wasn’t a talker because I wasn’t sure I’d be able to carry a conversation.

Sasha's POVDmitry arrived right on schedule and settled right in. I was no longer able to skip my morning runs and Dmitry was not shy about dragging me out of bed when I tried to sleep in. AVERY’S POV.Once Sasha had fallen asleep I got up and showered, then made my way to the kitchen to make breakfast for us all in an attempt to subdue a sullen Dmitry. He did not do well with tardiness and alterations in his plans; he was incredibly rigid sometimes. The fact that I had kept Sasha for a few extra minutes in the morning was enough to make him grumpy all day. Sasha had taken the brunt of Dmitry’s frustration that morning considering the state he was in when he returned to bed. Avery POV The following semester went by in a blur, we had nursing classes every day with our last class of biology on Tuesday mornings. It was a lot more interesting as some of the nursing concepts were directly related to what we were learning in biology. Thanks to Vasya’s help I was doing well on all of my pathology classes and feeling more and more confident when working on skills in the lab or when treating patients in clinicals. We had a lot more essays to write and nursing concepts to learn but with the extra help at my restaurant, I was able to pass them all in with a few days to spare. At the end of March, just before our exam began, Kate messaged me saying she was in the middle of a crisis. Avery’s POV Somehow Sasha did manage to convince Dmitry to go along with the plan, but Dmitry was not pleased about it. He spent all week sulking and avoiding me. Friday came and Kate tried to bail on me at least a dozen times, but I refused to let her off the hook. I got ready with her at her apartment. She chose to wear a cute navy blue dress and she put her hair up in a messy ponytail. I wore a loose fitting black dress and left my hair down in waves. We were finally in the exam period, and Sasha's team had made it to the playoffs. The tension at home was palpable, it was Sasha vs. everyone and we were all on edge. Dmitry and I did our best to stay out of Sasha’s way, but unlike me, Dmitry was quick to put Sasha in his place when he took out his frustration on either one of us. Sasha was short tempered, irritable and exhausted. He did not do well with stress, that much was obvious. He was never aggressive on purpose but he did not hold back what he was thinking. Sam never asked why I was staying at his place, but he let me stay there nonetheless. He and Janice had just returned from a trip to Costa Rica. They had been seeing each other since she took the job at the diner. They were an odd couple to say the least.
