Chapter 4

Author: No Chill
Valentino stepped in first. His face remained stoic as he stood near the door.

Henry followed right behind. Dressed in a black suit, his presence dominated the room. All eyes snapped to him, a mixture of shock and fear etched on every face.

I clutched Henry's arm, forcing myself to stand tall. Lily's champagne glass trembled in her hand, and a few droplets slipped free.

Yet it was Frank who reacted most intensely. Moments ago, he had been brimming with pride, but the instant he laid eyes on Henry, his face went pale.

He pulled his arm free from Lily's grasp and hurried toward Henry, wearing a look of frantic apology as he dipped his head. "U-Uncle Henry…" he faltered, his voice quivering.

The words "Uncle Henry" left everyone frozen in astonishment.

Henry stopped in his tracks, his gaze on Frank detached and unreadable. "Hello."

Frank could hardly speak coherently. "Uncle Henry… w-why are you here? I thought you—"

"Were dead, huh?" Henry cut in, his voice steady and calm.

Frank's knees buckled. "No, no, no! I could never have imagined that!"

"Do you think this is a trivial matter?" Henry continued, turning toward me. "Accompanying your Aunt Sarah home—is that something trivial in your eyes?"

Aunt Sarah.

The way Frank looked at me shifted in an instant—from disdain and contempt to shock and reverence.

"H-hello Aunt Sarah," he stammered.

I held back a laugh and nodded. "Hello."

The atmosphere at the dinner suddenly grew strange and tense.

As Henry sat at the main table, Frank didn't even dare take a seat. He simply stood there, pouring the wine.

Seeing Henry's cold, imposing expression and the timid Frank, my mother felt a deep pang of regret.

Lily sat across from me, determined not to let me steal the spotlight. She raised her wine glass with a smile. "Hey, Henry. I've heard your health hasn't been the best. It's important to take care of yourself, you know."

At that moment, Frank was busy serving wine to Henry. His hand trembled, and a few drops spilled over the edge.

He shot a panicked look at Lily. "Lily! Shut your mouth!"

Lily froze for a beat, her eyes turning red with grievance. "Honey, why are you yelling at me? I'm just worried about my brother-in-law. If his drinking ends up harming him, who will Sarah have to depend on for the rest of her life?"

I set my fork down. At that moment, a sharp metallic sound rang out beside me; Henry had thrown his knife down onto his plate. The dining room fell into complete silence.

He lifted his gaze, his eyes locking onto Lily.

A chill ran through her scalp. "H-Henry…"

Henry ignored her and turned instead to Frank, who was trembling beside him.

"Frank," Henry murmured. "Is this really the woman you chose?"

Frank's face went pale in an instant. "Uncle Henry, I—"

"How rude," Henry remarked indifferently.

At that moment, a sharp slap rang out through the air.

Lily's head snapped to the side. She froze, staring at Frank in disbelief. "Honey, did you just hit me?"

Frank's eyes were bloodshot. He jabbed a finger at her, his jaw clenched. "Shut up! How dare you disrespect Uncle Henry? You'd better apologize to him!"

Lily covered her face, tears spilling down at once. "I… I didn't—"

"Apologize!" Frank lifted his hand again.

Panicked, Lily instinctively recoiled and turned toward us. "I'm sorry… Uncle Henry… I'm sorry… Aunt Sarah…"

Henry's expression remained unreadable. He picked up a napkin, wiped the corner of his mouth, and rose to his feet. "We're done here," he said, taking my hand without hesitation. "Let's go home."

Frank quickly bowed his head in deference. "Goodbye, Uncle Henry! Goodbye, Aunt Sarah!"

We departed under the crowd's awed, respectful stares.

Inside the car, the closed door separated us from the chaos outside. I stole a glance at the man beside me. He was resting against the seat with his eyes closed. He appeared tired and worn.

"What are you looking at?" Henry suddenly said, still keeping his eyes shut.

I jumped slightly and quickly looked away. "N-nothing. I just… thought you were pretty impressive earlier."

Henry opened his eyes and turned to look at me. "Sarah."

"Yeah?"

"Next time you're out in public, keep your posture straight and confident." He reached out, his slender fingers lifting my chin and tilting my face upward. "You're Mrs. Larson. My wife.

"In Braventhorn's elite circle, only I have the power to make you bow your head." His voice was deep, carrying a sense of authority.

I stared at him in a daze. For a brief second, the part of me that wanted to be a widow wavered.

"No, Sarah! Don't be swayed! What you want is inheritance and freedom!" I thought.

I took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Yes, honey."

Henry's fingers paused for a moment, as though the word "honey" had caught him off guard.

He released his grip, a faint smile curling at the corner of his lips. "Drive."

The car slid into the night. I reached up and touched my chin; it was still warm where he had pinched it.

This road to widowhood seemed far more difficult than I had expected.

"Sarah! If you're not going to pay, then let's make a deal!" Lily shouted. Her eyes burned with an almost manic intensity as she looked from Henry to Frank."Frank may be useless, but he's still young! He's only 25! Sarah, let me have Henry, and I'll give you Frank in return! He's still young and capable of having children!"Henry is fragile. With his health the way it is, he's practically living on borrowed time! You don't want to end up a widow, do you?"I looked at her in disbelief. "You—"Before I could continue, Henry moved beside me. He raised his foot slightly, then brought it down onto Frank's injured hand."Ahhh—!" Frank let out a scream of agony as he rolled across the ground. Startled, Lily released my leg and stared at Henry in sheer terror.Henry stood with one hand tucked in his pocket and an umbrella in the other. He angled it fully over me, leaving half his shoulder exposed to the rain.He looked down at Lily from above. "So you want to swap us, huh?" A ruthless

I advanced a step, forcing my way past Henry's protective stance."You want to jump?" I pointed down at the ground below. "Then go ahead. It's pretty high. You'll probably take about three seconds to hit the ground. Don't worry, I'll make sure the area is cleared. You'll land with a sharp, clean smack."Lily froze. Even the rescue team nearby looked visibly stunned."What… what did you just say?" Lily couldn't believe her ears. "Aren't you afraid I'll die?""Of course I am." I shrugged. "I'm concerned your death could be too gruesome and frighten the children passing by. But don't worry, I'll buy you the best urn. That's the least I can do.""You—!" Lily's entire body trembled with rage. Her foot slipped, and she almost fell. A terrified scream escaped her as she quickly seized the railing."Lily, stop putting on a show," Henry said coldly. "Do you want me to start airing all your dirty secrets right here?"With a snap of his fingers, the large screen nearby suddenly lit up. It

"Why are you sighing?" Henry ended the video conference and turned his chair toward me."My hand's sore," I lied, keeping a completely straight face.Henry gestured for me to come closer. "Come here."I walked over obediently. He caught my wrist, pulled me into his arms, and set me down on his lap. "Which one is sore?"He gently massaged my hand, applying just the right pressure."My… my right hand."My whole body stiffened. His breath brushed against my neck, sending a shiver down my spine."Sarah," he suddenly called out."Yes?""I hear there are rumors going around that I'm not sexually capable."My heart skipped a beat. "N-no, that's not true at all!" I hurriedly denied it. "Who would dare spread rumors like that? I'll tear their mouths apart!"Henry chuckled under his breath. His chest shook with a low rumble, sending a shiver down my back. "Is that so? Then why did you write my name on the baby you just painted?"I was completely stunned. "Well… I just love you so mu

Frank and Lily started grappling with each other right at the gate. I watched intently, a subtle smile tugging at my lips."Are you enjoying the show?" A deep voice suddenly came from behind me.I flinched. Henry had appeared behind me without me even noticing. He was dressed in a silk robe, its collar slightly loosened. A cup of black coffee rested in his hand."I-it's pretty entertaining," I answered honestly. "More thrilling than any TV show."Henry stepped up to the railing, his gaze darkening as he watched the couple below. "Since you're enjoying it so much, why don't you go down and watch them up close?""Huh?"With that, Henry took my hand and led me straight downstairs. The gate slowly swung open. The moment Lily and Frank spotted Henry, they hurried over in a panic."Uncle Henry, please! Help me! Don't let them put me in prison!" Frank cried out, reaching for Henry's leg.Henry recoiled in disgust. Valentino promptly stepped in, his bodyguards forming a barrier in fro

Not only did that slap at the post-wedding reception stun Lily and Frank, but it also cemented my position within the Larson family.Still, I came to realize that Henry wasn't just tough—he was someone who never let go of a grudge. After Lily's sarcastic comment about his health, he started putting me through "physical training"."This is so you'll have the strength to look after me, a frail invalid."He was adamant that I run three miles each morning and do an hour of yoga every night. Even my meals were tightly controlled.I leaned against the floor-to-ceiling window, my mouth watering uncontrollably. In the backyard, Henry, clad in loungewear, was waving a piece of chocolate. Tank, the Doberman, wagged its tail excitedly."Henry! That's the exclusive, limited-release Hellington chocolate!" "Do you want it?" Henry turned his head, sunlight streaming across his high nose.I nodded frantically. "Yes!""Get down and do 50 squats."I was left speechless, but for the sake of th
