MARIA'S POV.

The next morning came quickly. And for the first time in years, I slept like a child who had no reason to worry. I.was finally going to get my revenge on Allen.

I walked down the marble stairs with my hand on the railing. The house was quiet. For a moment I felt like I was the only person alive. Adam was a busy woman. Unlike me who stayed in the shadows, Adam liked the spotlight— everything was to help me anyway.

I was about to walk to the living room when I heard noise coming from the kitchen. I reached for a bat lying at the corner of the house.

I had no house help, and I saw Adam leave this morning and she has never been back before nightfall.

I slowly walked to the kitchen, holding the bat tightly, ready to strike down the intruder. I cautiously took a peak.

Fuck, i almost forgot. Micheal lives here now.

Micheal was at the stove. He had rolled his sleeves up and his shirt was loose at the collar. Steam rose from the pan and made his hair curl at the edges. He moved like someone who had done this a long time. He looked at me and nodded but didn't say anything. His eyes slowly moving to the bat in my hands.

I smiled, hiding the bat behind me, forcing my smile to go wider, praying it would conceal my red cheeks.

“You want something?” he asked, his eyes still on the bat at first, before slowly meeting my eyes. His voice was low, tired in the right places.

I shook my head and quickly threw the bat to the side. “I didn’t know you could cook,” I said, trying to change the topic.

He shrugged and glanced at me. “You know nothing about me—” he paused.

“Maria,” I frowned.

“I know,” he replied, his face and voice unreadable. “How you don't mind,” he added, turning his attention to the stove. “I wanted to keep my hands busy.”

“Oh, I don't,” I smiled, folding my hands under my breast. Just the scent of the food was enough to make me travel to another world. A lot better than the usual breakfast I take almost everyday— tea and a few slices of bread. That's because that's the only thing I can do.

“I didn’t know what you wanted so I made—” he waved his hand over all the dishes. “Sorry.”

“Nah,” I waved my hand. “It's fine. I'm just shocked you know your way around the kitchen. Looks like I have a lot of things to discover about you.”

His hand stopped. The spoon hovered above the pan. It was obvious he didn't agree with that. Instead he put the spoon down and reached for two cups.

“The faster we start,” he said, pouring coffee into the cups, “the faster we can get away from each other.” he said flatly.

Harsh. But it's true.

I sat on a stool at the island. “But our deal needs talking,” I said. “Thwre is no team work without communication.”

He handed me a cup. The coffee was hot, bitter in the way I liked.

He took his cup and leaned against the counter, eyes on me like he was measuring my face.

“Who works for Allen?” he asked suddenly.

That was plain.

I blinked. The steam made little halos around his head. I set the cup down and tried to be casual. “What do you need them for?” I asked.

“To kill a tree,” he said, his voice calm, “you cut the roots. To weaken a god, you take away the worshippers.” He sipped his coffee.

I nodded in agreement.

“Who are his highest allies?” he asked.

“Come,” I said, walking back to the living room. “Allen has done nothing but made the company his. He worked with different shitty people to get my grandfather's full approval.” I turned back to him, handing him a book. “Thjs are the names of the people that Allen works with.”

Micheal took the book, flipping the pages in a controlled way. His eyes narrowed when he flipped to another page.

“These are all tough families,” he said finally, looking back at me. “What exactly do you want, Maria?”

“Allen would soon turn that company to his own. It was founded by my family. I can't watch it get stolen.”

“So you want to take it back?”

I slowly shook my head. “I want to kick him out.” I picked up some files from my table and handed it over to him. “Allen is fully backed by the council. They didn't like the fact that a woman would head them. So they supported him.”

“That means your grandfather is involved.”

I frowned. I wasn't sure if that was a question or a statement.

“He's not,” I answered sharply. “My grandfather cares about me. I was the one that left the group with a promise that I will make them pay someday.” I walked closer, closing the gap between us. “I want them to come back and beg me. I want them to beg for my return to the company.”

“The company is already doing good, compared to yours,” he said, his eyes shining with amusement. “Allen is doing a pretty good job.

“Not if my company has something to say about it,” I smiled, holding my head in pride.

His lips curled into a faint smile. “I like the fire,” he said walking towards the wastebin at the corner. “Your goal is to make your company bigger than Rodriguez's group.”

I nodded, watching his every moment with keen interest. But my eyes suddenly widened in shock as he tore my plans into shreds.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I screamed.

He raised a finger to silence me. Number one rule in the line of business,” he turned back to me. “Never try to take your rivals' allies. Make them come to you.”

My brows furrowed in curiosity. “What are you talking about?”

“I'm saying I'm taking over. You want to take back your company,” his voice dropped into a low but dangerous whisper. “I want to kill Allen. At all cost."

I smiled, handing him another documents. "Well then, I think it's time to choose a face. Micheal."

Author’s POV. The morning sun fell through the large glass walls of the Rodriguez headquarters, spreading a soft golden light across the office. The day was bright and business was good.Allen sat at the far end of the meeting room, his hands folded neatly on the table. He wore a dark gray suit that matched the mood of the room — calm, serious, powerful. Across from him sat Old Grandpa Rodriguez, the man who had built the empire with his own hands. Allen leaned forward slightly. “Sir, the company’s stocks have risen by twenty percent this quarter,” he said, sliding a folder across the table. “The new deal with the foreign investors has pushed our name further into the international market. We’re becoming unstoppable.”The old man’s eyes twinkled with pride. He took the folder, scanning through the figures slowly. “You’ve done well, Allen,” he said in his deep, gentle voice. “I knew I could count on you. You’ve kept the company strong.”Allen smiled faintly. “Thank you, sir. Everythi

  • Maria Rodriguez    The revenge plot

MARIA'S POV.It was a bright morning, the sun shining at its peak, casting a beautiful glow through the hospital glass, my hips swinging left and right as I walked through the hospital halls. The male doctors and some patients' mouths fell open as I passed them, they whispered among themselves. “Isn't that Maria Maria?” They asked each other. Yes, I am Maria Maria, I changed my last name, there was no need to carry on my last name after they chased me out of the company. “I am sorry,” a man bumped into me. “I am sorry,” he apologized, with a bow and turned to go. “Michael,” I called. He paused immediately, turning back to me.“How do you know my name?” He asked, his brows furrowed in curiosity. Thirty minutes later we sat in a coffee shop, he sat quietly across the table sipping his coffee. “You seem to miss the coffee a lot,” I broke the silence. “I am trying to process all that you just said,” he revealed, dropping the cup on the table. “So you're telling me that you found m

MICHAEL'S POV. I opened my eyes slowly as I looked around me. The last thing I remembered was the lady with Allen knocked me out. I couldn't believe he could do this…after everything I have done, and sacrificed for him, he was beyond redemption, when I see him I would make sure I cut his legs off. I looked around, I was placed in my car, I tried opening the door but it was jammed, I scanned the surroundings hoping to find someone who could help me, but it appeared that I was on top of a cliff. Why would they bring me here? Were they planning to threaten me or kill me? Either way, I would make sure the two of them pay for everything they have done.“You have woken up,” I heard Allen's voice, I turned to the screen attached to my windshield. “Allen,” I smoldered, clenching my fist in anger. “You little bastard… when I get out of here….”“I would rip your limbs apart and feed them to my dogs,” he interrupted, rolling his eyes. “C'mon Mike, we both know you are no longer capable of t

MICHAEL'S POV. I sat quietly on the couch shaking the glass of wine in my hand, my mind still clouded with guilt. I still couldn't believe Allen talked me into this evil act, it wasn't because I was righteous, I was the complete opposite. My name was Micheal but I was known among the billionaires as “The drug devil”. I was a drug dealer, one that you shouldn't mess with…one that valued money more than family. I was someone who sent shivers through people's spine, there was no single person that crossed me and never lived. I had everything, the face, the looks, the aura, the money, the power…everything was at the tip of my fingers, there was nothing I couldn't do or get. But how did I end up here? Let's rewind… I killed a family, from the father to his two-day-old child, he was a cop…yeah, I never feared authority, he messed up a deal and I lost fifty million dollars because of that, but after that, it was like a whole was left in me, I felt empty…this wasn't the life I want

  • Maria Rodriguez    Kicked out

MARIA. I woke up with a splitting headache, I cleaned my blurry eyes as I scanned through the room, wondering how I was still alive after getting involved in a fatal accident. Someone was there at the scene, and he pulled me out before the car exploded, I owe him my life but right now I don't have any time for this, I have to tell my grandfather about Allen's unfaithful act. I got up from my bed, looking at the mirror in front of me and I had no scratch on my body. How would that be? That accident could have taken my life but I ended up not having a single scratch. I glanced around, it was definitely a hotel room but the man was nowhere to be found and there was nothing to show that anyone was there except me. I grabbed my purse and walked out of the room, I had to get home quickly, Allen would pay for everything he had done. I wasted two years of my life, I gave two years of my whole life to Allen…I left to grow his dying business and this is what he was doing behind my back…
