Azrik's POV

Lunessa's scream tore through the silence like a blade. I jolted upright, heart racing, instincts flaring. My hand shot out for hers, and froze.

Blood was everywhere soaking the sheets, coating her thighs.

My lungs locked. “Lunessa…”

“I don't want to lose my baby!” she sobbed, her voice raw, body trembling.

I was already moving. “We're going to the hospital. Now.”

She clutched her belly, eyes wild with fear. “My baby... Azrik... please...”

I scooped her into my arms, and she screamed again, this time from pain so sharp it made her convulse.

Then, just as I reached the stairs her body went limp.

“Lunessa!” I roared. No pulse on her wrist. No breath against my neck.

Panic surged like a tidal wave. There was no time for keys, no time for shoes. I vanished and reappeared instantly at the hospital gates, barrelling through the emergency entrance, drenched in blood.

“Code OB Red! We have a pregnant patient unresponsive, severe hemorrhage!” a nurse shouted.

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 142: The Art Of Pain

Azrik's POVI felt a sharp ache in my chest as I watched Lunessa drift to sleep. The fact that she was even blaming herself broke something in me. How could she think any of this was her fault? She had done nothing wrong. We had lost something precious, but we still had each other, and if the moon never gifted us any child, I’d still thank the stars every night for giving me her. Just her. That’s all I’ve ever truly needed.I kissed her forehead one last time and slipped out of the room, careful not to wake her. The moment the door clicked shut behind me, I pulled out my phone and called Draven.“I only have three days left,” I said, my voice low. “That was the deadline Lunessa gave me.”“I remember,” Draven replied. “And the bounty we put on Cassara’s head? It’s doing wonders. We’ve been getting leads left and right.”“Any of them solid?” I asked, pacing the corridor like a storm waiting to break.“Well, two different sources claim they saw someone matching her description deep south

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 141: The Healing Bath

Lunessa's POV“Please let me help you bathe,” he said, voice gentle.Azrik looked tired, worn in a way only quiet agony could etch into a man. I knew he had been trying, reaching across my silence, trying to hold me together when I didn’t know how to hold myself.I saw the effort in his eyes, in the cautious way he moved around me, afraid one wrong word or touch would make me shatter. And yet I’d been so angry. Not just at the world, or Liaison, but at him. At everything. I didn’t know why I felt that way, only that I couldn’t stop.He helped me into the bathroom. It was already prepared, lit with candles that glowed like little stars caught in amber. Soft music drifted from the corner, slow, a piano’s gentle weeping. The tub was full, steaming gently. I could smell the herbs floating on the surface, lavender, rosemary, something ancient and earthen. The healing bath.He undressed me carefully, as if I might dissolve at his fingertips. Then he helped me into the water, and the moment

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 140: The Mourning Crown

Lunessa’s POVDraven arrived later in the evening, his presence quieter than usual. He brought a bag with fresh clothes for Azrik, a tray of food, and a folded blanket under his arm. His eyes lingered on me, searching for a crack in my armor. There was none.Azrik took the clothes silently and disappeared into the bathroom. He was still in the same worn pajamas from the night before, creased and stained, exhausted. It hit me then. He hadn’t moved. Not once since I was wheeled into this room. He hadn’t eaten or changed. He’d stayed by my side, drowning in guilt and silence.Draven gently set the food down on the small hospital table in front of me, hot porridge, a bowl of fresh fruit, water.“Please try and eat something,” he said, his voice low, like talking to something broken and fragile. But I didn’t respond. Just stared at the steam curling from the bowl.“Luna…” he began again, carefully choosing his words. “I understand how you feel…”“You don’t,” I cut him off, my voice low.H

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 139: Wombbane

Lunessa’s POVI didn’t know where I was, or if I was even alive.Everything was dark, cold, and hollow, but then I heard a scream, my scream then blood. I shot upright with a strangled cry, air clawing its way into my lungs like I’d been drowning.“Lunessa!”Hands caught my shoulders before I could thrash off the bed. I struggled, heart pounding like war drums, vision swimming in and out, until I heard Azrik.“I’m here,” he whispered, his voice like gravel and silk, his face coming into focus, pale, unshaven, and desperate. My lips parted to speak but went dry as I looked down at myself. My body felt foreign, drained. I was wrapped in white sterile hospital garments. A faint antiseptic smell clung to my skin. Cold IV fluid snaked through my arm.My voice cracked. “Why am I wearing this? Azrik... what happened?”His jaw tightened. The muscles in his neck pulsed, but he didn’t speak. I looked into his eyes and felt dread settle like lead in my stomach, I remembered everything.“Azrik.”

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 137: Dreams That Kill

Lunessa’s POVI called Vanya. No answer. I stared at my screen, the ringing tone echoing in my ears even after it ended. I swallowed hard and slipped the phone back into my bag. Work was the only thing keeping me sane, so I buried myself in it, pretending numbers and signatures were more urgent than the firestorm behind my eyes.By noon, my phone finally rang. Vanya.I picked up instantly. “Hello?”“Luna,” she greeted, warm as always, but I didn’t return the pleasantries right away.“I need to ask you something,” I said, my voice lower than usual. “About Lucien… I mean, his roots. His family. Do you know where he’s really from?”There was a pause on the other end.“This wouldn’t have anything to do with Thorne’s mystery child, would it?” she asked knowingly.“Yes.” I didn’t bother hiding it.Vanya exhaled, then said, “No, darling. I know Lucien’s parents. I was here, in the pack, the day he was born. I held him when he was just minutes old. I’ve watched that boy grow.”The breath I’d
