Lunessa's POV

After the shift, I kept moving barefoot, naked, and aimless. The forest offered no warmth, only shadows and biting wind.

I snatched a handful of broad leaves, weaving them around my trembling body in a poor excuse for clothing. It barely concealed my skin, but shame wasn’t my concern. Grief was.

My heart… my heart was shattered into pieces too jagged to hold. The only person who loved me without judgment, who saw me, truly saw me, was gone. And she’d been taken by the very people who claimed to protect us.

Kellan and Liora. They didn’t just betray me, they destroyed me.

‘Due… are you okay?’ I whispered through the mindlink, my throat tight.

‘Yes… just weak,’ she replied, her voice a faint flicker in the hollow of my mind.

I stumbled upon some discarded rags, likely left by hunters. They reeked of old sweat and dried blood, but I wrapped them around myself with shaking hands.

Liora might still have soldiers tracking me through the woods. If she could kill my mother, th

  • Marked By Midnight    Chapter 151: The Midnight That Follows

Lunessa’s POVFive years later…I stood on the balcony, the early morning breeze rustling through my robe as I sipped my tea. Mornings like this always bring memories rushing back, of fire and blood, of betrayal and survival. It’s been five years since we walked away from the ruins of Hollow Spire.Azrik was hurt. The wound Rhydan left in him wasn’t just betrayal, it was brotherhood shattered, trust broken beyond repair. Draven’s injury only deepened the rage, and Azrik’s path to healing was dark.He found torturing them therapeutic, psychotic right? But it worked.Rhydan, Cassara and Liora Saw hell. He kept them alive for months to suffer. Over and over. Death hovered, but never claimed them, until it did. Cassara was the first to break. Liora followed, and Rhydan met the slowest end.It was brutal, it was merciless, and it was justice, in Azrik’s eyes. After that, he disbanded the Scentless Killers. No more assassins for the elite. The message was clear that the era was over. Those

Lunessa’s POVAzrik roared, and the sound ripped straight from the heart of the storm.Cracks split through the stone floor, and a portion of the temple caved in, crushing half the cultists under ancient stone and firelight.Draven moved, blood soaking his shirt but eyes sharp as a blade. He reached me slicing through my restraints in one clean motion. Without missing a beat, he slammed a fresh magazine into his pistol and opened fire on the cult members. I didn’t wait, I turned.Liora was fast, too fast for most, but not for me. Not anymore, not after everything. After the betrayal. After the girls. After the poison. I was in the roots of the Kaerwyn Line, I felt whole under the blood moon.We began to fight, good thing I chose leather trousers and top. She charged, her heels skimming the ruined floor like she was floating. I sprinted forward, then dropped low, sliding clean between her legs. The ground burned my skin as I snatched the twin sawed-off shotguns strapped behind Draven’

Lunessa's POVI blinked, unsure if my eyes were playing tricks on me.“Liora?” My voice cracked. “You’re alive? I knew it, you snake!”“Relax.” She smirked. “I thought you’d say you missed me.”“So all of this… it was you?” I asked, my voice tight with disbelief.“Not entirely,” she said with a shrug, “but I’ll gladly take the credit.”There they were, two Lioras and Cassara, each draped in red ceremonial robes, lounging in high-backed chairs like queens of chaos. To my left, a sea of cloaked cultists in red hoods sat silently, all facing the ancient altar. The air buzzed with dark energy.I turned again to face the elder Liora, her expression composed as she sat.“But what are you doing here?” I asked, my voice dropping as I looked into the eyes of the woman I once thought was just a lowly maid.Cassara rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue. “Are you actually this slow?”“What are you talking about?” I demanded.“She’s your uncle’s mistress,” the younger Liora chimed in. “And she’s

Lunessa’s POVThe moment Azrik left, I felt the hollow space in the room stretch like a wound. Minutes later, Draven burst into the chambers, breathless and furious."How could you let him go alone?" he demanded, in a panic.I didn’t flinch. “You know how he gets, Draven. There was no stopping him.”His jaw clenched. “He’s alone.”“Yes,” I said, “and they know that too.”He froze. “You think they anticipated this?”“They’re not fools,” I said grimly. “Cassara knows him, and if this is Hollow Spire we’re talking about they’ve prepared for him. We can’t wait around hoping for miracles.”Draven’s eyes narrowed. The panic shifted to readiness. “What do we do first?”“Start with the Council. Issue a sealed command, no one must know we’re leaving. Assign the Gamma to oversee the palace security and especially the prisoners. We move in silence.”“Understood.” He nodded, “I need to go get my sword,” he said.I scoffed, “Swords? Common Draven, we're not giving them what they expect.” He looke

Azrik's POVI left the dungeon with blood still on my knuckles. The air outside was still, like the world was holding its breath for something it couldn’t name. When I returned to our chambers, I found Mira standing by the door, her hands folded nervously.“Is something wrong?” I asked. She bowed quickly. “No, Alpha. Luna couldn’t sleep, so I added herbs to her tea to make her sleep. Please forgive me for acting without your instruction.”I exhaled, relieved. “You did well, Mira. Thank you. You should rest now.”She bowed again and left, her footsteps soft down the hall. I stepped into the room quietly. Lunessa was already asleep, her breathing calm.I freshed up, and laid beside her but didn't sleep. I couldn’t. My body was in the room, but my mind was at war, every second felt like sand slipping through my fingers. I needed to move.By 3 a.m., the silence became unbearable.I slipped out of bed and walked into my closet. There, behind a false panel, was my hidden vault. A magnetic c
