LUCIANThe next morning, Lucian came down the stairs just as Eveline was slipping her arms into a light jacket by the front door. He frowned, looking at the clock in the living room. It was 7:42 AM. “Where are you headed?” She looked up sharply. EVELINE Two days passed uneventfully, with Lucian and Eveline nursing Marcus back to health. On the third morning, Eveline sat beside Marcus’ bed with a small tray of medicine. EVELINEShe woke to the sound of birds chirping outside her window. For a while, she sighed in satisfaction, taking in the warm air and the soft sunlight and……the pain in her neck. Eveline groaned as she sat up slowly, one hand already pressing against the base of her neck where a dull ache had settled.
