LOGIN"We are surrounded by devils; we just have to choose the devil we are most comfortable with."
VIOLET'S POV "Lyc—an King?" I gasped in shock, my eyes widening in surprise. My eyes roamed his body, taking in every muscle. They didn't miss a single water droplet that rolled down his chest. I traced the water's path to his torso, and then... my eyes landed on the towel that hung lazily around his waist. He was beautiful, so beautiful that I almost fell to my knees. Heat travelled up to my neck, and I was sure my ears must have turned red. "My eyes are up here." A deep grunt rumbled from his chest, making me jump back in fright. "I…" I swallowed hard, dropping my gaze to the floor. I felt my cheeks heat up in embarrassment. "I'm sorry." I didn't hear any reply from him. After what felt like a minute, I still hadn't gotten any response, so I moved my gaze up to see him walking towards a couch that I never knew was in the room. I took that moment to look around the room where my problems had all started. The room smelled like musk and spring flowers… Just like him. "Hmmph." He groaned, making my gaze snap back to him. He sat on the couch with his legs spread wide. His bare chest moved up and down with each panting breath. Water dripped from his hair, gluing his jet-black strands to his face. I needed to say something. I needed to say something to him. Dear goodness, I needed to snap out of it. My father… My father was with that beast. What if something had happened to him? "You…" I gulped down the heavy lump that hung tightly in my throat, staring at him and drinking him in. "You did not know who I was, right? You did not know I was the Alpha's mate. You didn't use me to get to Alpha Ansel, right?" I panted heavily, waiting for him to say something, anything at all. But he didn't say anything. He threw his head back and groaned as though he were in pain. I wanted to ask him if he was okay. I wanted to move closer to him and ask if he was alright. It took everything in me to remain rooted to the floor. I couldn't afford to show affection towards the man who was the reason for my downfall. I held my breath as I whispered, "Did you use me against my pack? Why are you doing this?" The door opened, making me abruptly turn around to see who was coming. Perhaps he had sent for someone to come and kill me. "Huh?" My eyebrows shot up to my forehead as two women—probably the brothel workers—walked in, wearing dresses that should only be worn in the privacy of their own rooms. The two women flashed me deadly glares before walking past me, deliberately bumping their shoulders against mine as they passed. "We are here, Your Majesty!" they announced their presence in such a seductive tone that I couldn't help but scoff angrily, forgetting about my situation. "Go back. Get out!" the stranger, the Lycan King, growled, causing the women to tremble in fear. They didn't question him about why he wanted them out. They bowed and scurried out of the room, making sure to bump into me before walking out. "What are you doing here?" the Lycan King hissed, rubbing a hand over his face as though his body were on fire. "You should remain in the room you were given until I'm ready to see you." "No!" My reply was sharp and sudden. "I can't remain in that room, not when I have no idea why you brought me here. I can't let you hold me hostage," I blurted out, anger radiating from my body as I clenched and unclenched my fists. "Don't fault me," he sighed, grabbing a bottle of pills from beside him. He popped a handful into his mouth and groaned. "I did it for you. I did what I thought was best for you." My lips parted, but no words came out of my mouth. I stared at him as though he had suddenly grown an extra head. What would make a Lycan worry about me? He was such a great liar. I took a deep breath and nodded my head as though I believed the fib he had just told me. "What…" I paused, trying to steady my breath. "You brought me here for a reason. Got it! But what do you plan to do with me?" I couldn't bring myself to look him in the eyes as I awaited what would become of my fate. It was no longer news that I was now as good as a traitor in my own pack, but being punished by my own people should be a lot better than suffering in the hands of the beastly Lycans. I assumed. "I'm taking you with me!" the Lycan King—whose name was still unknown to me—said in a voice that left no room for argument. I slowly raised my head, my heart hammering hard against my chest as I watched the man, who seemed to have absolutely no idea what he was saying, decide my life. Anger radiated from me like a palpable force as I stared at him in stunned disbelief. How could he have orchestrated my life without even a hint of consent? "Is that how you Lycans behave?" I asked, my shoulders trembling as I clenched my fists at my sides. "Thinking you are above everyone, so you can do as you please? Huh?" His head darted towards me. His face darkened, his jaw clenched tight in what seemed like fury and anger. He mustn't have expected that outburst from me. He slowly stood up from the couch, keeping his cold gaze on me. He looked like a mighty beast as he took a long stride towards me. Each step he took sent a sliver of fear down my body. "What did you just say?" he asked in a strangely calm tone that betrayed his dark, cold gaze. He stopped right in front of me, heat radiating from his body, making me wince in pain before taking a step backwards.RENZO'S POV"Let him go!" my mother screamed, writhing in agony on the floor. "I beg of you. Just let go of my son, and I will do everything you want of me."My hand clenched into a tight fist as anger and pain consumed me. My brother—my half-brother—grabbed me by the neck, squeezing my throat until I began to see stars."Mo—mother," I gasped, stuttering as my beast of a brother tightened his grip around my neck.I shook my head, silently praying that my mother would stop crawling toward us. She had been stabbed severely, but she might survive her wounds if she left me behind and ran. Instead, she kept crawling closer, her body dragging through her own pool of blood."Give it to me, Nadia!" my father growled, watching me struggle against my brother's grip. He didn't seem to care whether they killed me or not. He didn't even bat an eye at my mother, who was losing so much blood.Whatever he believed my mother possessed, that was all he cared about. Nothing more."I... I don't have... i
VIOLET'S POV"You're still not leaving?" I asked, rising from the bed to stare at Kyran, the man who had been with me ever since we'd arrived at the Lycan Pack.He wouldn't tell me why he was staying. He simply stood by the window, gazing outside with his arms crossed behind his back."Not yet."He gave me the same two-word reply he'd been giving me every time I asked why he wouldn't leave.I appreciated him staying with me, but it felt strange, as though he were watching over me like a watchdog.I wouldn't run away if that was what he was worried about. But I doubted the man cared whether I stayed or left."Have you always been like this?" I asked, dragging my feet toward him until I was standing beside him, looking up at the night sky.It was already dark outside, and I wondered how long I would be confined to my room before someone finally came knocking."Like what?" Kyran mumbled without taking his eyes off the sky.I stood beside him and followed his gaze, hoping to see something
RENZO'S POV"His Majesty is here!" the guard announced, pushing open the double doors to announce my arrival.I glanced at my Beta from the corner of my eye, watching him fidget with his fingers. For some reason, he seemed nervous, and I hoped to the moon he had nothing to do with what had happened."It would pain me to have to kill you," I muttered to myself. After one last look at him, I nodded and drew in a sharp breath."Let's go in. It wouldn't be nice to keep the old men waiting."I smirked as I walked into the boardroom, my jaw clenched, my eyes burning with rage, and my shoulders tense.Whatever was ruining my reign was in that boardroom, waiting for me. Whoever was behind the string of failed missions we'd experienced so far was in that room. But how would I know who it was? Would they give themselves away through strange behavior or some suspicious expression?I had no idea."Greetings, Your Majesty the King," the elders greeted in unison.Everyone was already on their feet
RENZO'S POVDo you think she'll ever forgive you if you kill me? I know the look in your eyes. You're a lonely child, and you want to keep her. I could give her to you freely if you let me go."Bullshit!" A deep growl rumbled through my chest.Anger built inside me as I tightened my grip around my dagger, recalling my encounter with the werewolf girl's father. Those had been his last words before I drove my dagger into his neck and slit his throat. He was such an idiot to think he could guilt-trip me into letting him go. Not after he'd interfered in my business.I have no desire to seek her forgiveness. I'm doing her a favor by removing a pest like you from her life."Fucking bastard!" I spat, staring at the dagger in my hand as though the sight of it would ease my pain and rage.I hadn't done anything wrong. I'd done what needed to be done. She didn't deserve what he had put her through. He hadn't had her best interests at heart. He'd only been using her for his own selfish gain.No
VIOLET'S POVYou're going to be safe... with me.The Lycan King's words kept replaying in my head as he carried me out of the dungeon in his arms. The walls of the hallway were splattered with blood, and the floor was littered with the bodies of men I assumed were the guards stationed at the dungeon.I shut my eyes, refusing to believe that the dead bodies scattered across the hallway were the price of my freedom. They were the sacrifice King Renzo Hades had made to get me out of the dungeon. How pathetic. How pathetic of me to think I could lead a simple life for the rest of my days. The men who had been sacrificed for my escape would haunt me forever. They never deserved such a fate."Don't blame yourself for their deaths. You shouldn't think you're responsible for what happened to them, either. They were going to die anyway, and I was the one who made their deaths quick. Not you." King Renzo whispered into my ear as he carried me down the hallway. "You have nothing to do with this.
VIOLET'S POV"Thank you," I whispered, unable to stop myself from staring at the Lycan King as he freed me from the shackles that bound me to the chair. My hands hurt so much the moment they were free. For a minute, they didn't even feel like mine. They felt heavy, and pain spread through my body as I winced."Good to see you're still in one piece," the Lycan King, whose name remained a mystery to me, blurted out. His eyes were fixed on my neck as he mumbled something I couldn't make out."I believe you are." I bit down on my bottom lip as warmth spread through my neck, embarrassment creeping into my cheeks.I couldn't help feeling like a fool for making him come to my rescue after he'd warned me against returning to my people. I'd overestimated the loyalty of my own species, believing I would be safer here than if I'd gone with the Lycans."Where's Ansel?" I asked, suddenly feeling uneasy about how easily the Lycan King had reached me, even though there must have been hundreds of gua
