LOGINVIOLET
••• THE PREVIOUS NIGHT ••• I wasn't the type to seek revenge. Even when the maids at home bullied me as a child, I never once considered retaliating because I believed my parents weren't saints either. But this time, the only thing that came to mind after seeing my best friend in bed with my mate was revenge. I knew I might regret my little scheme later, but cheating on my mate, just as he had been cheating on me, would make me feel better. The door opened, and the woman from earlier stepped outside. “Everything is ready. Please go in,” she said with a warm smile. I slowly raised my brows, wondering if she had any idea what would happen if anyone found out about this. “What about the man? Is he someone from this pack? Someone who might know who I am?” “I doubt that,” she said, waving a hand dismissively and rolling her eyes. So much for a brothel owner. “Everyone who lodges here is a stranger. You have nothing to fear.” I gave a curt nod and muttered a thank-you. I pulled the cloak down over my head and stepped into the hallway. A voice in my mind screamed at me to go back home, forget what I had seen earlier, and act as though nothing had happened. But another voice urged me to do what would make me feel better. A thick scent of musk and spring flowers hit my nostrils the moment I walked into the room and shut the door behind me. I hastily closed my eyes, trying to calm my racing heart before committing the worst mistake of my life. “Come here. I don't have all night!” a voice growled from the other end of the room, his tone fierce and uncompromising. I swallowed nervously as I dropped my cloak to the floor and began dragging my feet toward the source of the voice. The room was dark, with the only light coming from the dim lamp on the nightstand. I was somewhat grateful for the darkness because I didn't want to know what the stranger I was about to share a bed with looked like. “I have one condition.” I gulped nervously as I tugged at my dress, my shoulders jerking backward in fear. “We'll be doing it with our clothes on.” “Get on the bed!” A low grunt came from behind me, startling me. I quickly moved to the bed and shut my eyes as I felt a pair of hands grip my waist, pinning me to the bed. I shut my mind off, not wanting to know what the stranger was doing to my body. I didn't want to feel any of it. I felt disgusted, and bile rose in the back of my throat as I felt something slide into me, stretching me as it went deeper and leaving me struggling to breathe. His hands roamed over my clothed body, making my skin crawl. I wanted to disappear, to escape somewhere I wouldn't have to feel the regret flooding my mind or hear the voices in my head judging me. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks as the stranger continued moving against me, his cock filling me and stretching me beyond what I could bear. I thought it couldn't get any worse until I felt his hot breath fanning my neck and something sharp, like fangs, piercing the back of it. The world stopped when I heard a growl rumble from his chest. The realization of what the stranger had just done made my heart stop beating. He had marked me! ••• PRESENT ••• “Lady Violet, it's time to get to the hall,” a voice called out, jolting me out of my thoughts. “Already?” I panted heavily, my hand sliding down from my neck as I tried to hide the horrible mistake I'd made before my father could see it. He would kill me if he found out what I'd done. He would fucking rip my head off if he discovered that I'd done something that could jeopardize his chances of securing more contracts through his relationship with the Alpha. “Daughter?” my father called, stepping in front of me with a sincere smile lingering on his face. He stretched out a hand. “Shall we?” My breath hitched as I nodded, gently placing my hand in his. He gripped it tightly, as though I were something precious to him. My heart hammered in my chest. It was happening, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. If my father hadn't discovered my mistake, my husband would. He would kill me once he discovered that I was carrying another man's mark. But at least the marriage would be sealed, and my father would still get his share. Nevertheless, one thing was certain: I would die one way or another.RENZO'S POV"Let him go!" my mother screamed, writhing in agony on the floor. "I beg of you. Just let go of my son, and I will do everything you want of me."My hand clenched into a tight fist as anger and pain consumed me. My brother—my half-brother—grabbed me by the neck, squeezing my throat until I began to see stars."Mo—mother," I gasped, stuttering as my beast of a brother tightened his grip around my neck.I shook my head, silently praying that my mother would stop crawling toward us. She had been stabbed severely, but she might survive her wounds if she left me behind and ran. Instead, she kept crawling closer, her body dragging through her own pool of blood."Give it to me, Nadia!" my father growled, watching me struggle against my brother's grip. He didn't seem to care whether they killed me or not. He didn't even bat an eye at my mother, who was losing so much blood.Whatever he believed my mother possessed, that was all he cared about. Nothing more."I... I don't have... i
VIOLET'S POV"You're still not leaving?" I asked, rising from the bed to stare at Kyran, the man who had been with me ever since we'd arrived at the Lycan Pack.He wouldn't tell me why he was staying. He simply stood by the window, gazing outside with his arms crossed behind his back."Not yet."He gave me the same two-word reply he'd been giving me every time I asked why he wouldn't leave.I appreciated him staying with me, but it felt strange, as though he were watching over me like a watchdog.I wouldn't run away if that was what he was worried about. But I doubted the man cared whether I stayed or left."Have you always been like this?" I asked, dragging my feet toward him until I was standing beside him, looking up at the night sky.It was already dark outside, and I wondered how long I would be confined to my room before someone finally came knocking."Like what?" Kyran mumbled without taking his eyes off the sky.I stood beside him and followed his gaze, hoping to see something
RENZO'S POV"His Majesty is here!" the guard announced, pushing open the double doors to announce my arrival.I glanced at my Beta from the corner of my eye, watching him fidget with his fingers. For some reason, he seemed nervous, and I hoped to the moon he had nothing to do with what had happened."It would pain me to have to kill you," I muttered to myself. After one last look at him, I nodded and drew in a sharp breath."Let's go in. It wouldn't be nice to keep the old men waiting."I smirked as I walked into the boardroom, my jaw clenched, my eyes burning with rage, and my shoulders tense.Whatever was ruining my reign was in that boardroom, waiting for me. Whoever was behind the string of failed missions we'd experienced so far was in that room. But how would I know who it was? Would they give themselves away through strange behavior or some suspicious expression?I had no idea."Greetings, Your Majesty the King," the elders greeted in unison.Everyone was already on their feet
RENZO'S POVDo you think she'll ever forgive you if you kill me? I know the look in your eyes. You're a lonely child, and you want to keep her. I could give her to you freely if you let me go."Bullshit!" A deep growl rumbled through my chest.Anger built inside me as I tightened my grip around my dagger, recalling my encounter with the werewolf girl's father. Those had been his last words before I drove my dagger into his neck and slit his throat. He was such an idiot to think he could guilt-trip me into letting him go. Not after he'd interfered in my business.I have no desire to seek her forgiveness. I'm doing her a favor by removing a pest like you from her life."Fucking bastard!" I spat, staring at the dagger in my hand as though the sight of it would ease my pain and rage.I hadn't done anything wrong. I'd done what needed to be done. She didn't deserve what he had put her through. He hadn't had her best interests at heart. He'd only been using her for his own selfish gain.No
VIOLET'S POVYou're going to be safe... with me.The Lycan King's words kept replaying in my head as he carried me out of the dungeon in his arms. The walls of the hallway were splattered with blood, and the floor was littered with the bodies of men I assumed were the guards stationed at the dungeon.I shut my eyes, refusing to believe that the dead bodies scattered across the hallway were the price of my freedom. They were the sacrifice King Renzo Hades had made to get me out of the dungeon. How pathetic. How pathetic of me to think I could lead a simple life for the rest of my days. The men who had been sacrificed for my escape would haunt me forever. They never deserved such a fate."Don't blame yourself for their deaths. You shouldn't think you're responsible for what happened to them, either. They were going to die anyway, and I was the one who made their deaths quick. Not you." King Renzo whispered into my ear as he carried me down the hallway. "You have nothing to do with this.
VIOLET'S POV"Thank you," I whispered, unable to stop myself from staring at the Lycan King as he freed me from the shackles that bound me to the chair. My hands hurt so much the moment they were free. For a minute, they didn't even feel like mine. They felt heavy, and pain spread through my body as I winced."Good to see you're still in one piece," the Lycan King, whose name remained a mystery to me, blurted out. His eyes were fixed on my neck as he mumbled something I couldn't make out."I believe you are." I bit down on my bottom lip as warmth spread through my neck, embarrassment creeping into my cheeks.I couldn't help feeling like a fool for making him come to my rescue after he'd warned me against returning to my people. I'd overestimated the loyalty of my own species, believing I would be safer here than if I'd gone with the Lycans."Where's Ansel?" I asked, suddenly feeling uneasy about how easily the Lycan King had reached me, even though there must have been hundreds of gua
