LOGIN“If you don’t own up to your little mistake, you’ll only make things more difficult by trying to avoid it.”
VIOLET’S POV “The Alpha left?” I asked for the second time to make sure I hadn't heard wrong. “Yes,” the palace guard grunted, still blocking me from entering the hall. My heart gave a start as I looked sideways, trying to make sense of what was happening, but I couldn't think of anything. Why would the Alpha leave when we hadn't even gotten the marriage over with? “Violet, what's going on?” my father growled, and my shoulders jerked in fear as I stepped away from him. He shouldn't have been asking me that question when we had both left the house together. But in my father's defense, if anything went wrong, you should ask Violet. She must have done something wrong. Maybe this time, he was right. But I couldn't pinpoint what had made the Alpha leave the hall and ban us from entering. When my father saw that I wasn't going to answer his question, he turned to the guard and puffed out a breath. “What happened?” he asked the guard, who seemed to be having a bad day. “Why did the Alpha leave? What happened before we got here? And what about the wedding?” “That's too many questions,” he groaned, resting a hand on the hilt of the dagger fastened to his chest, right above his sword. “I don't think we're close enough to be throwing questions around.” “Fuck this bastard,” my father mumbled under his breath as he slowly turned around to stare at me. My chest tightened, and I rubbed my clammy hands together. “I swear I didn't know what—” “Oh, you're still here?” a voice I would never mistake for anything in the world chuckled behind me. I abruptly turned to see Kira marching toward us with two guards trailing behind her. “Thank the Goddess you're here!” My father took a step forward, a tired smile creeping onto his face as he turned to face Kira. “You were here earlier, right? Do you think you have any idea what made the—” “Shouldn't you be at the palace now, confessing your sins?” She walked past my father, totally ignoring him as she came to stand in front of me, a maniacal smirk plastered on her face. “What sin?” my father barked, rushing back to me. He gripped my shoulders, his claws piercing into my skin, and I let out a soft gasp. I lowered my gaze to the floor. The look on my father's face was frightening, and I might end up begging him to just kill me because that seemed to be what would happen anyway. “She didn't tell you?” Kira fake-gasped. I took my bottom lip into my mouth, nibbling on it until I could feel blood slipping into my mouth. “I swear to the Moon, if I find out you did something stupid to fuck with my business, I will kill you and leave your worthless body for the birds to feed on!” he sneered. He shoved me back before turning to face Kira. “Please, dear, tell me what happened.” “Well...” Kira shrugged, stepping away from the guards before smiling warmly at me. “You can hear for yourself when you get to the palace.” She smirked at my father before turning to walk away. “Take them. Alpha Ansel wants them both alive,” Kira ordered the guards before walking away. It felt like my air supply had been cut off as I panted, struggling to catch my breath. What the fuck had Kira done? She hadn't told the Alpha about the mark, right? “I would hate to mishandle you, Alpha's mate. Please come with us,” one of the guards uttered. His face was void of emotion as he gave me a once-over, looking at me as though my mere existence disgusted him. “You can take her. Let her sort out whatever shit she has done. Stupid idiot daughter of Satan!” my father hissed, turning around to walk away before another guard blocked his path. “You're coming with us. Alpha Ansel wants both of you at the palace. Now, start moving.” For the first time in my life, I was afraid to leave the house. Perhaps I should just kill myself. But what about my father? What would happen to him if he were the only one left to face the Alpha? Would he be able to forgive me? We got inside the car, and I had never felt so suffocated before. It felt like I was going to choke on my own breath and die. Somehow, death by suffocation didn't sound as bad as dying at the Alpha's hands. I didn't know how long I had been lost in my thoughts when the car suddenly stopped, and the door beside me opened. “We're here. Come with me,” the guard announced. We hastily stepped out of the car, following the guard, who looked like he might drive his dagger into the crook of my neck at any moment. My wedding dress was beginning to feel heavy the longer I trailed behind the guard. Each step brought me closer to wherever the Alpha was waiting. I was frightened to meet him. This wasn't how I had planned to spend my wedding day, but who was responsible for this if not me? The double doors to a large hall opened, and the guard stepped aside. “You two can go in. The Alpha is inside, waiting for you.” “You'd better not have done something crazy because I'm so ready to be childless. So help me, Goddess,” my father mumbled before entering the hall first. I trailed behind him. I hadn't thought about it before, but now I realized that coming here was a bad idea. I should have died long before arriving at the palace. I should have jumped out of the moving car earlier, hit my head on the concrete floor, and died. Murmurs filled the hall as we walked in, and I couldn't bring myself to raise my head to look at anyone. I felt like they were all judging me, and I might crumble if I saw their judgmental eyes glaring daggers into my skull. My world shattered as I walked down the hall with my father beside me. I couldn't breathe properly. My shoulders heaved as I gripped my dress with both hands. “Stop right there!” a husky voice howled, making me come to an abrupt halt.RENZO'S POV"Let him go!" my mother screamed, writhing in agony on the floor. "I beg of you. Just let go of my son, and I will do everything you want of me."My hand clenched into a tight fist as anger and pain consumed me. My brother—my half-brother—grabbed me by the neck, squeezing my throat until I began to see stars."Mo—mother," I gasped, stuttering as my beast of a brother tightened his grip around my neck.I shook my head, silently praying that my mother would stop crawling toward us. She had been stabbed severely, but she might survive her wounds if she left me behind and ran. Instead, she kept crawling closer, her body dragging through her own pool of blood."Give it to me, Nadia!" my father growled, watching me struggle against my brother's grip. He didn't seem to care whether they killed me or not. He didn't even bat an eye at my mother, who was losing so much blood.Whatever he believed my mother possessed, that was all he cared about. Nothing more."I... I don't have... i
VIOLET'S POV"You're still not leaving?" I asked, rising from the bed to stare at Kyran, the man who had been with me ever since we'd arrived at the Lycan Pack.He wouldn't tell me why he was staying. He simply stood by the window, gazing outside with his arms crossed behind his back."Not yet."He gave me the same two-word reply he'd been giving me every time I asked why he wouldn't leave.I appreciated him staying with me, but it felt strange, as though he were watching over me like a watchdog.I wouldn't run away if that was what he was worried about. But I doubted the man cared whether I stayed or left."Have you always been like this?" I asked, dragging my feet toward him until I was standing beside him, looking up at the night sky.It was already dark outside, and I wondered how long I would be confined to my room before someone finally came knocking."Like what?" Kyran mumbled without taking his eyes off the sky.I stood beside him and followed his gaze, hoping to see something
RENZO'S POV"His Majesty is here!" the guard announced, pushing open the double doors to announce my arrival.I glanced at my Beta from the corner of my eye, watching him fidget with his fingers. For some reason, he seemed nervous, and I hoped to the moon he had nothing to do with what had happened."It would pain me to have to kill you," I muttered to myself. After one last look at him, I nodded and drew in a sharp breath."Let's go in. It wouldn't be nice to keep the old men waiting."I smirked as I walked into the boardroom, my jaw clenched, my eyes burning with rage, and my shoulders tense.Whatever was ruining my reign was in that boardroom, waiting for me. Whoever was behind the string of failed missions we'd experienced so far was in that room. But how would I know who it was? Would they give themselves away through strange behavior or some suspicious expression?I had no idea."Greetings, Your Majesty the King," the elders greeted in unison.Everyone was already on their feet
RENZO'S POVDo you think she'll ever forgive you if you kill me? I know the look in your eyes. You're a lonely child, and you want to keep her. I could give her to you freely if you let me go."Bullshit!" A deep growl rumbled through my chest.Anger built inside me as I tightened my grip around my dagger, recalling my encounter with the werewolf girl's father. Those had been his last words before I drove my dagger into his neck and slit his throat. He was such an idiot to think he could guilt-trip me into letting him go. Not after he'd interfered in my business.I have no desire to seek her forgiveness. I'm doing her a favor by removing a pest like you from her life."Fucking bastard!" I spat, staring at the dagger in my hand as though the sight of it would ease my pain and rage.I hadn't done anything wrong. I'd done what needed to be done. She didn't deserve what he had put her through. He hadn't had her best interests at heart. He'd only been using her for his own selfish gain.No
VIOLET'S POVYou're going to be safe... with me.The Lycan King's words kept replaying in my head as he carried me out of the dungeon in his arms. The walls of the hallway were splattered with blood, and the floor was littered with the bodies of men I assumed were the guards stationed at the dungeon.I shut my eyes, refusing to believe that the dead bodies scattered across the hallway were the price of my freedom. They were the sacrifice King Renzo Hades had made to get me out of the dungeon. How pathetic. How pathetic of me to think I could lead a simple life for the rest of my days. The men who had been sacrificed for my escape would haunt me forever. They never deserved such a fate."Don't blame yourself for their deaths. You shouldn't think you're responsible for what happened to them, either. They were going to die anyway, and I was the one who made their deaths quick. Not you." King Renzo whispered into my ear as he carried me down the hallway. "You have nothing to do with this.
VIOLET'S POV"Thank you," I whispered, unable to stop myself from staring at the Lycan King as he freed me from the shackles that bound me to the chair. My hands hurt so much the moment they were free. For a minute, they didn't even feel like mine. They felt heavy, and pain spread through my body as I winced."Good to see you're still in one piece," the Lycan King, whose name remained a mystery to me, blurted out. His eyes were fixed on my neck as he mumbled something I couldn't make out."I believe you are." I bit down on my bottom lip as warmth spread through my neck, embarrassment creeping into my cheeks.I couldn't help feeling like a fool for making him come to my rescue after he'd warned me against returning to my people. I'd overestimated the loyalty of my own species, believing I would be safer here than if I'd gone with the Lycans."Where's Ansel?" I asked, suddenly feeling uneasy about how easily the Lycan King had reached me, even though there must have been hundreds of gua
