She nods toward the chair by the window and I go sit, pulling out my phone.

There’s a message from Max.

Max: I’m sitting in the most boring lecture on conflict resolution. Wishing I was with you already. How’s your day been?

I smile.

Me: Good. Well, tough actually, but I got a lot accomplished. Just having a tattoo designed, actually… don’t tell my brother. Xxx

I grin to myself, imagining Zach’s face when he finds out.

Max replies immediately. I watch the three dots dance.

Max: What are you getting? And where? Can’t wait to see you with ink. That is so hot!

I snort softly.

Me: A phoenix. Not sure where yet, we’re just working that out.

Max: Will you show me when it’s done?

Me: You will be the first person to see it. I’ll let you know when we’re done. I’ll try and get down for dinner tonight.

The streets are lit up, banners hanging from balconies, music drifting on the air. Clearly there has been a festival today ahead of the ball tonight. Everyone is celebrating their new prince.We crawl through the traffic, inching forward, but eventually we reach the sprawling house Aiden has rented for us. It is big enough for all of us and looks comfortable.
