Salcan's POV

The Moonblessed gates opened as I marched inside, my gammas following behind. I watched as my men tried to rebuild one of the pillars destroyed during the Blackthorne raid. That reinforced the thought that had been running through my mind all day.

“How is it,” I murmured, leaning over my horse. “That I hear of Ronin's death but no whisper about Lira?”

I signalled my closest gamma, Eric, if I could call him that. I was barely tolerating him. “Take this horse to the stables. Make sure it's well fed.”

“Will you be marching out soon again my Lord?” He asked, bowing his head.

“If I had plans to march soon, would I ask you to feed the horse?” I asked, tilting my head.

“No… my Lord. I just…” he stammered.

“Do as you're told. You don't want to get on my bad side,” I said, unhooking my waist belt.

I turned to face my pack. They were focused on rebuilding the walls that were destroyed during the last attack. I could see the disdain on their faces, the anger they felt over my las

Alia's POVThe moment the gates slammed behind us, I shoved my hands into my pockets, trying to keep them from shaking. It was freezing cold.“See,” I muttered. “This is exactly what I told you would happen.”Yeah, maybe it wasn't the right time. But talking was the only thing keeping me from falling apart.Lira spun towards me, eyes bright red from all the crying. “This isn't the time for this Alia,” she snapped. "We're literally alone. No pack or protection. And if we don't find shelter before peak night, the wolves will tear us apart.”Great. Now I felt bad. And guilty. The moment she said wolves, my stomach twisted. I could feel the night darkening. The wise thing should have been to keep my mouth shut. Still, I couldn't stop talking. If only she knew that my excessive talking wasn't a sign of insensitivity. Truthfully, I was holding answers she needed to fix her alpha's problem and possibly re-admitted into the pack.I swallowed hard and forced myself to breathe. “So where do we

Lira's POV Damien's voice cut through the chamber. “So those are the only two options?”The council nodded in unison. Damien's gaze shifted to me again. His brows pulled together and for a moment, I thought he was going to decree that I was free to go immediately. But he blinked and turned back to the council.“Why wasn't she given a fair trial?” He asked firmly.A murmur erupted across the room. The eldest councilman stepped forward. “Because the facts speak for themselves,” he said. “And because we discovered something else… something deeply concerning.”I felt their eyes shift towards me and then to Alia. The councilman's lips curled. “The girl she brought into our land is the General's niece. The same General who attempted to kill you. The same man who escaped custody the moment after our guards turned their backs.”My heart seemed to stop.Alia stiffened in the corner and clenched her fists. Immediately, he mentioned the General's escape, I snapped. “Escaped?” I narrowed my ey

Damien's POV I woke up to a strange heaviness. My head throbbed and everything was a blur. I tried to move but my limbs felt twice as heavy as I remembered.“Where am I?” My own voice startled me.Murmurs erupted from every corner. Wolves began to move around me with curious gazes. A hand—warm, firm—grasped mine. I flinched, my instincts screaming both yes and no.“Who are you?” I whispered.“Lira,” came the answer, her voice soft and certain, like she expected me to know who she was.“Lira,” I tried to speak again, hoping it would stir recognition. But my mind offered nothing.I looked down at myself—at my hands. They were strong. Alpha? No, the title didn't fit. Beta. “Beta of the Moonblessed pack,” I said aloud. I believed it and yet in the empty corners of my mind, it felt wrong.I didn't know who I was or the world I had woken up to. Worst of all, I didn't understand why I felt a flicker that made my chest ache the more I stared at this… Lira.We journeyed a long distance before

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    Friends turned enemies

Lira's POVI had heard stories and old tales about alphas who lost battles or even their wolves. But never, not once in the entire history of the werewolf lands had an alpha ever fallen in rank.I turned towards the General. The wicked smile he wore on his face earlier had stretched wider.“What did you give to him?” I said, with a crack in my voice. He didn't answer at first. He let out an annoying laugh.“Oh, it worked,” he chuckled. “I'm such a genius.”My blood ran ice cold.Aragon stepped towards me, trying to ground me with a stern look. “My lady,” he signalled quietly. “Hold yourself. This is war ground. We need to leave. We're exposed—too exposed. And we lost good men today. If rival packs hear of this…” he tightened his jaw. “They will see vulnerability and attack.”I gave a soft nod even though my body was against it.And then Damien moved again. This time he spoke.“Where am I?” He asked, confused.I moved closer. “Damien… Damien, it's me Lira. Tell me what's wrong.”He bli

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    The beginning of the end

Salcan's POVI had waited for the General since the first light of dawn, just like he requested, and still, that wretch didn't grace me with his presence. The moment the sun took its position in the sky, I realised that I had been made to stand idle like some abandoned rogue. It wasn't disrespectful. My Gammas stood beside me, stiff and obedient, none daring to ask why we were heading back to the Moonblessed lands.“I should never have listened to that fool,” I murmured, my voice low with contempt. “I'm sure he had nothing to offer and his lies about Lira were just to get my attention.”“To think that I— Salcan—alpha of the Moonblessed, had allowed myself even a moment to wonder if that pitiful daughter of mine could ever rise above me.” The thought of it drew a sharp, humourless chuckle from my chest. My Gammas, always eager to mirror my mood joined in with a laugh of his own. But our mockery died in unison.A sound echoed through the air. Gunshots. Several of them were from the dist

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    A taste of battle

Lira's POV I couldn't feel my legs under me anymore. All I could feel was my heart, beating forcefully in my chest. I held on to Damien's body as it hit the ground. But that was the least of my worries. The moment the General saw that he had missed me, he lost it.He tried again, lifting the small gun-like weapon. But the chamber was empty. Whatever he'd put into that syringe, the same thing he had shot into Damien… he'd already used the last of it.And that was when he switched to his pistol. Every shot that followed felt like my life flashing before my eyes continually. Aragon blocked one with his blade. Someone from a pack I didn't recognise stepped in front of me, deflecting the next. There was chaos everywhere. I couldn't tell whose blood was splattered all over me.I spun around, frantically searching for Alia. I caught sight of her, crouched by the side of a bush, on her knees, trembling violently with her hands placed over her ears. I didn't blame her. I didn't even know how
