Chapter 1

The coming

Being the daughter of a well-known and beloved hybrid, there are things you can do and things you can't, friends you can keep and friends you can't. By that, I mean the hunters. My dad's hatred for them was so strong I feared that one day, it would be the death of him.

I lost my mom when I was just a child. Though I don't have any recollection of her being with me, no memories, the only thing left is her picture.

Her death made me rebel. Dad had every right to save her when the hunters came to attack; however, he chose to leave her behind and run with me. Although he said that whatever happened, Mom wanted it, I still didn't buy it one bit.

My father is a hybrid - both a vampire and a werewolf, alpha to be precise- so why then did he let my mom die?

I should also have the same level of hate for hunters as my dad, but strangely, I don't. I feel less hatred, and more of an urge to be just like them, and I hope that Dad won't find out that I still relate to those who shattered us.

Looking at the circumstances, to keep the pack and me safe from such tragedy, Dad chose to build a mansion in the middle of nowhere. The mansion was hidden from the eyes of humans, and anyone who dared to pass by the mansion was most likely going to get bitten by bulldogs.

I lived there until Dad sent me off to stay with my aunt, Amma - my mom's younger sister and also my super aunt. You can already tell that while growing up in the mansion, before moving to my aunt's, I lived my life with everyone watching my every move, and now, I would be returning to the place I considered a prison.

My one year of living with my aunt was over, and Dad wanted me back home so that he could act like my father and get me married to the son of his friend. He assured me that I would like him and find him dashing, so I was eager to see him.

The car Dad sent drove me right back to the place I swore to never go back to. I could still feel the emptiness around me, and it was as dry as it had always been. The only thing that changed was that my father had finally renovated the old-looking mansion.

"Gena!"

I walked into the mansion, and the voice of the nanny, Fatima, made me turn around. She rushed out of the kitchen and hugged me.

"Hello, nanny! I have missed you." I wrapped my arms around her and squeezed her back. I might not have missed her one bit, but I missed her great dishes and motherly love towards me.

"Gena, how have you been?" She pulled away and took my bags along with her to my bedroom.

"I have been well, but tell me, how's everyone? And Dad?"

She only nodded as I followed her to my room. It was the same room I grew up in. Although the room was repainted and the curtains and furniture were still brand new, I noticed that the picture of my little self on the wall was still intact.

"Your dad is fine. He is at a meeting," she said as she opened my box and began to unpack for me.

"Really, what meeting? The Alpha's meeting, right?" I jumped on my bed, and it creaked.

"Yeah! The usual," the nanny told me whilst arranging my clothes in the wardrobe.

I left the nanny in my room, and I went downstairs. I went into the kitchen for a bottle of water; however, I saw an uncovered pot on the gas stove. The minute I tried to look inside the huge pot, a young girl rushed in and quickly covered the pot.

"Hey, who are you?" She pushed me away from beside her as if I had a strange sickness and she didn't want to contract it.

"I should be asking you!" I laughed.

"Really? Do you not know that the maids aren't supposed to be here without permission?" She laid down all the rules and regulations, and not once did I utter a single word. I watched her reprimand me, and her voice was loud as hell.

"What is happening?" The nanny asked as she came to see what was happening in the kitchen. She was stunned to see me in the corner of the kitchen, with another girl who was about my age, shouting at me.

"Sophia! What's going on?" The nanny interrogated her as she held my hand and pulled me away. I stayed behind her and listened quietly to what she had to say.

"Ma'am, I saw this girl trying to steal from the pot of stew," she said as she opened the cover of the pot and demonstrated the situation.

"Oh my gosh! Have you lost it? If Gena wants to open the pot, what is your business with that?" The nanny took the cover away from her and yelled. Her reaction was so shocking that Sophia couldn't help but ask questions.

"Ma'am, did I perhaps do anything wrong?"

"Yeah! You did because the girl you just called a thief is the daughter of Mr. Rayburn," the nanny revealed to Sophia.

"Wait! She's the hybrid's daughter?" Sophia repeated in shock.

"Yes, and you just made a huge mistake by calling her a thief," the nanny said, holding my hand and dragging me away. I turned back, and I could see Sophia in a state of shock. I was certain that she didn't know about my identity; otherwise, she wouldn't have insulted me.

I didn't want my dad to hear about it because the nanny might have been lenient, but I trusted my dad to do worse. He would not be happy to hear that his daughter got insulted by a worker at the mansion for no reason.
