Rei opened her eyes.

She was standing in a hallway.

At first, she didn't understand where she was.

The walls were white.

The floor was polished.

Fluorescent lights buzzed overhead.

Then she recognized it.

Alpha Academy.

Except there was something wrong.

The hallway was empty.

No students.

No teachers.

No noise.

Only silence.

Rei turned around.

"Dominic?"

Nothing.

She looked down.

Her hands were transparent.

Panic rose in her chest.

"Caelan?"

No answer.

She took a step forward.

The hallway stret

  • Marked by the Alpha Captain   The Child in the Cradle

Chapter 101The tiny hand curled over the edge of the cradle.Rei couldn't move.It was impossibly small, pale fingers gripping the old wood as though the child inside had been waiting for someone to notice.Behind Anna, the second Jonah stood perfectly still.Below the garden, the first Jonah clung to the ledge with one arm while Hope held him around the waist. Two boys. Two identical faces. Two versions of the same child. And somewhere between them, a cradle bearing Rei's name.“Mom?” the boy behind Anna repeated.Dominic moved closer to Rei.“Don't answer yet.”Rei glanced at him.“I wasn't going to.”“Good.”His voice was quiet, but his eyes were fixed on the child. The second Jonah looked down at Benjamin.“Is that him?”Dominic tightened his hold on the baby.“Who are you?”The boy hesitated.“Jonah.”The Jonah below them looked up sharply.“No, you're not.”The second boy's expression fell.“I am.”“No!”Hope looked between them.“Jonah, wait.”The boy below shook his head.“He

  • Marked by the Alpha Captain   The Ones Who Refused to Let Go

Chapter 100“I'M NOT LETTING YOU TAKE MY SISTER!”Jonah's small hand tightened around Hope's wrist. For one suspended second, everything stopped. The silver fire climbed the first branch, twisting around its ancient limbs like living lightning. The ground beneath the garden cracked open, revealing a darkness filled with thousands of flickering lights. Each light was a memory. Each memory held a face. And at the center of it all, a little boy stood with one hand wrapped around Hope.He looked terrified. He looked determined. And he looked so much like Dominic that Rei felt something inside her chest split open.“Jonah!” Dominic shouted. The boy's gray eyes snapped toward him.“Dad!”Dominic took one step forward, Benjamin held securely against his chest.“I'm here, buddy.”Jonah's expression crumpled. For just a moment, the brave little boy disappeared, and Rei saw a frightened child who had been waiting a very long time for someone to come back.“Dad, I tried,” Jonah cried. “I tried t

  • Marked by the Alpha Captain   The Third Child

Chapter 99The baby cried again.Rei knew that cry.She had heard it in the middle of the night when Benjamin was hungry. She had heard it when he wanted Dominic to pick him up. She had heard it when Hope sang to him and he refused to sleep. It was Benjamin. But the voice that followed was hers. You were never supposed to be born.Rei tightened her grip on the little girl's hand."What does that mean?"The child looked frightened."I don't know.""Who said that?"The darkness shifted.A small circle of light appeared in front of them.Inside it was a room.A hospital room.Rei saw a younger Mara lying in a bed, exhausted and pale. Evelyn stood beside her, holding a newborn baby.A nurse was speaking quietly."Congratulations. She's beautiful."Mara smiled weakly."Can I hold her?"Evelyn hesitated. The nurse placed the baby in Mara's arms.Rei stared at the tiny face.Herself.Her own newborn face.Mara kissed her forehead."My little girl."Then the room changed. The lights flickered

  • Marked by the Alpha Captain   The Sound of Coming Home

The morning started with a phone call from the neonatal unit.Lela was awake, sitting against her pillows while Jack sorted through the growing collection of baby clothes on the chair. He had somehow turned two tiny outfits, three blankets, and a package of newborn socks into an organizational project. His phone rang.He glanced at the screen.“It's the unit.”Lela immediately straightened.“Answer it.”Jack accepted the call and put it on speaker.“Good morning. This is Jack Sullivan.”“Good morning, Mr. Sullivan. It's Nurse Melissa from the neonatal unit. I wanted to give you both an update before you came down.”Lela reached for Jack's hand.“Is everything okay?” he asked.“Yes. Both girls had a stable night. I have some encouraging news about Sophia, and Isabella has also made progress.”Lela closed her eyes briefly.“Okay. Tell us.”“Sophia managed her feeding attempts a little better overnight. She's still tiring, but she's showing more consistency. Her temperature has also rema

  • Marked by the Alpha Captain   The Daughter Before the Beginning

Chapter 98Rei couldn't move. The little girl stood in the doorway, smiling as though they were meeting at a family gathering instead of inside a room that looked like a laboratory. She had dark hair.Silver eyes. And Rei's face. But there was something about her smile that made Rei uneasy. It was too knowing.Too old."Who are you?" Rei asked again. The little girl tilted her head."I already told you.""You said you're the daughter I was supposed to have.""Yes.""That doesn't tell me who you are."The girl sighed."You're always asking questions."Rei looked toward the little boy standing beside the door.He hadn't moved. His scarred knuckles were pressed against his sides, and his gray eyes kept shifting between Rei and the girl."Do you know her?" Rei asked him.The boy nodded."She's been here longer than I have.""How long?"He shrugged."Before.""Before what?""Before everything."The little girl laughed."He doesn't remember much."The boy frowned."I remember leaving."The
