Chapter 50

I found myself staring at the clock, its ticking growing louder with each passing second. My legs tapped nervously against the floor, the rhythm betraying my anxiety. Bas had promised to be here, but there was still no sign of him.

Frustration bubbled up inside me as I tried calling him again, but my attempts were met with silence. Each ring felt like an eternity, and the absence of his voice only heightened my unease.

"Ughhh," I groaned, running a hand through my hair.

We had to get the belladonna flower tonight because, in a few hours, it would be my 21st birthday, and they would come for me. Now was the perfect time. Bas knew we had limited time, so why hadn't he shown up?

Frustration surged through me. If he wasn't going to come, I'd have to get it myself. Taking a deep breath, I stood up and walked out of my apartment, my mind racing with determination.
