Chapter 2

Author: Celebrant
In three days, I could finally leave.

I picked up my phone and saw that Sabrina had shared another photo. Joshua was busy caring for her, and the tenderness in his eyes was the same way he used to look at me.

Tears blurred my vision.

My father had been the old Alpha's driver. He had given his life to save the old Alpha. After he died, Joshua and Charlie's families had taken me in, and I had grown up alongside them.

Joshua once held my hand tightly, his gaze unwavering as he said, "Nicole, I'll make you the happiest Luna. I will protect you with everything I have for the rest of your life."

Charlie would always ruffle my hair with a smile, sharing the best things he had with me. "Nicole, you're my favorite little sister. I'll always take care of you."

But everything changed the moment Sabrina appeared.

She had a way of using her orphan status to draw sympathy and attention from everyone. She even cried at my birthday party in front of everyone, claiming she had never been loved.

I couldn't help but soften. I held another birthday celebration for her, treating her like my own little sister.

Later, I accidentally found a love letter she had written to Joshua in her room.

We had fought violently over it. Within a few days, she left the pack, leaving a note accusing me of pushing her away.

After that, a rift grew between Joshua, Charlie, and me. They would bring up Sabrina from time to time, their words laced with disappointment toward me.

I thought it was all behind us.

But the moment Sabrina returned, they abandoned me completely.

At that moment, a message popped up. It was from Adam Smith, my mentor at medical school in the human world.

[Nicole, are you really going to refuse the opportunity to train in the South? I know it's because of your mate and childhood friend, but you're an excellent doctor. You deserve a better future.]

If Joshua and I had completed our bond today as planned, I would have turned down this rare chance.

But now, I had already made my decision to leave them behind.

I typed back, [Thank you. I'll take the training.]

Almost immediately, the reply came. [Excellent! We'll leave in three days.]

I took a deep breath and headed toward the house Joshua and I had decorated together. I pushed open the door, and a familiar yet strange scent hit me.

Sabrina was wearing my clothes, lounging on my favorite fur sofa like she belonged there.

Beside her, the ceramic moonlight cup Joshua and I had made together lay shattered on the floor, broken into pieces.

The roses I loved most were also gone. They were thrown into the trash because she claimed she was "allergic to pollen."

Sabrina looked up at me, a smug smile tugging at her lips. "Nicole, you're back already? I just finished the wolfsbane cleansing surgery. Joshua and Charlie said it's quiet here, so they let me stay and recover."

She emphasized every word, like she was showing off.

My gaze stayed locked on the broken cup, my voice trembling. "Joshua gave that to me."

Sabrina shrugged, completely unconcerned. "Oops. I broke it by accident. It's not worth much anyway. Joshua can always make you another one later."

Her words cut deep.

Not worth much?

That cup had been shaped by Joshua's hands. He had glazed it himself. Fired it himself. Every detail had been done with care.

And now she called it worthless.

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms as I forced myself to stay calm. I swallowed my anger and bent down to pick up the broken pieces.

Suddenly, Sabrina swayed.

She stumbled forward and fell straight onto the shards.

"Ah! It hurts!" she cried out, her voice weak and pitiful. "Nicole, why did you push me?"

At that exact moment, the door flew open.

Joshua and Charlie walked in.

A suffocating force, one only an Alpha could produce, rolled off Joshua. The pressure filled the room and stole my breath.

"Nicole, you're bullying Sabrina again?" Joshua rushed forward, pulling Sabrina protectively into his arms. He looked at me like I was some unforgivable villain.

"I never thought you could be this cruel. You drove her out once, and now you're hurting her again when she's barely recovered from surgery. Are you trying to kill her?"

Each word slammed into my chest like ice.

Charlie frowned too, disappointment clear on his face. "Nicole, you're being spoiled and unreasonable. Sabrina is weak right now, so you should be more understanding. And if you hadn't forced her to leave the pack, would she have been poisoned in the first place?"

I stared at him, stunned. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"I never forced her to leave. I—"

Before I could finish, Joshua cut me off sharply.

"Enough. I don't want to hear your excuses." His eyes were cold, filled with disapproval.

"As the Luna of this pack, you're supposed to be kind and gentle. If you keep acting like this, I'll postpone our marking ceremony indefinitely!"

They clearly had not expected Caleb's Luna to be me.The moment Joshua saw me, his eyes lit up. He called my name, his voice full of excitement. "Nicole. What are you doing here? How did you become Caleb's Luna?"As he spoke, he tried to rush forward, as if he wanted to snatch me away from Caleb.Charlie followed close behind, his face full of concern. "Nicole, how have you been? We've both missed you so much."I looked at them coolly. I felt nothing at all.I stepped away from Joshua's outstretched hand and replied in a flat voice, "I'm doing very well. Thank you for your concern."Joshua froze. He clearly had not expected such coldness from me."Nicole, have you been fooled by him? Come back with me."I shook my head, resolve burning in my eyes. "Joshua, I chose to be with Caleb of my own fr

Adam and I flew straight through, barely stopping, until we finally reached the academy. He was worried about my injuries, and he didn't even take time to rest. He immediately contacted the best healer from the local pack. After examining my burns, the healer frowned deeply."These are serious. You'll need to apply medication continuously, and you can't let the wound get wet. You must be careful, or it will scar."Under the healer's careful guidance, I began a long and grueling recovery.Every day, I pushed through the pain, repeating the same exhausting movements over and over again. Luckily, I ran into someone unexpected during my recovery. Caleb Judson, the Shadow Pack's Alpha and a senior student one year ahead of me."Nicole, it's been a long time," he said with a warm smile, stepping closer and giving my shoulder a light pat.I blinked in surprise. "Caleb? What are you doing here?""Mr. Smith was worried you won't be able to take care of yourself with your injuries, so

Sabrina avoided their eyes, still trying to play dumb. "I-I don't know what you're talking about..."Joshua's expression turned terrifyingly dark. He strode forward and flung the aged letter straight at her face."Still pretending? The evidence is right here."The paper sliced across Sabrina's cheek, leaving a red mark. She trembled. She knew she couldn't hide it anymore. She collapsed to the floor and sneered."Yes. I did it. So what? Why does Nicole get all of your affection? What makes her better than me? I wanted everything she had. I wanted to take it all away!"Joshua shook with rage and shouted, "You're cruel, selfish, and utterly shameless! You drove Nicole away!"Sabrina threw her head back and laughed, her voice sharp and shrill."Me? Cruel? What about you two? You're both blind fools who couldn't tell right from wrong. You're the ones who hurt Nicole the most. You're the ones who drove her away, not me."Her words struck deep. Joshua and Charlie's faces turned ashen.

Joshua and Charlie were stationed outside Sabrina's hospital room. Their eyes flickered to the door every few seconds, waiting for me to show up and apologize. But no matter how long they waited, I never appeared.Joshua's brow furrowed, his expression dark and serious. "Nicole is really getting out of control. She's dragging her feet just to apologize."Charlie was getting impatient too, and there was a nagging sense that something was off creeping in. "Maybe we should check her room ourselves."They stormed into my hospital room, only to find it empty.Panicked, they grabbed a nurse. "Where is the patient in this room?"The nurse blinked in confusion. "She was discharged this morning."Charlie's chest tightened, a cold knot of dread forming. He urged Joshua, "Quick, call her."Just then, Joshua felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. A sharp, relentless pain rose in his chest, hitting him so hard that he collapsed.-When Joshua came to, it was already night.Charlie saw t

Every step felt like walking on knives, each one cutting deeper into my heart. After leaving home, I went to the city hall to submit my application to leave the pack. As I held the paperwork in my hands, a storm of emotions twisted inside me.Just then, a message from Sabrina appeared. She said she wanted to apologize for breaking the ceramic cup and asked to meet me.I hesitated for a moment, but decided to go. I needed to see what she was really up to.When I returned home, only Sabrina was there. Her smile was bright, almost blinding."Nicole, you really have no shame. You were abandoned at the marking ceremony, and you still act like you have any right to be here?
