Avan dropped Laura at the entrance of the house and drove away a minute later.

Laura entered the house, heading straight to the refrigerator for some water. Suddenly, she heard a sound coming from the kitchen. She froze, set her bag on the dining table, and went to check.

Chris wasn’t at home, so she assumed it must be Mira. She thought Mira had gone to bed already, but apparently not.

To her surprise, Mira was on the floor, writhing in pain while holding her hand and crying.

“What happened?” Laura asked quickly, rushing over.

“I cut my finger, can’t you see?” Mira answered rudely.

Ignoring her tone, Laura helped her up, led her to the sink, and washed the wound.

“Wait here, let me get the first aid box,” she said, but Mira stopped her.

“How do you know where the first aid box is? Acting like the owner of the house,” Mira grumbled.

“Should I help you, or do you want to keep running your mouth?” Laura snapped, irritated.

Mira pouted but kept quiet. Laura brought the box, the

Chris parked his car in front of the house but hesitated to go inside, hoping to avoid running into Mira. He sighed in frustration, annoyed that his mother would go so far just to push him toward Mira.Banning Mira from coming to the company had saved him a lot of trouble, but now he had to deal with her at home too.Chris had met Mira during his first three months after returning, and since then, she had clung to him like a fly. No matter how many times he told her off, she never listened. With the support of his uncle and pressure from everyone who wanted him to use her family’s connections, she became even harder to shake off.“You’re finally back from work. I thought you wouldn’t be returning today,” Mira said as he stepped inside. She rushed forward to help him with his tie and shoes.“Don’t,” Chris said firmly, stopping her from getting closer, then headed straight to his room.“You must be very busy at the office. Do you want me to help?” Mira asked, following behind him.Chris

Things became busy at the company due to the big project, and Laura also became busier than before. She often had to work overnight, along with handling other new projects they had recently secured. That evening, she finished working around seven, closed her computer, and stood up to leave when she noticed Clara was nowhere to be found. She called Clara’s name a few times without any response, then went down to the first floor to check with the security if she had already left the building. “Have you seen Clara?” Laura asked the secretary at the first floor. “No, ma’am. I haven’t seen her this evening,” the woman replied before returning to her work. Laura moved away, deciding to leave first. But then she remembered that she had dropped her phone earlier while trying to call Clara, so she went back to her office to get it. As she entered, she heard a strange sound coming from Clara’s office. Curious, she walked toward it, wondering if Clara was still inside. Just as she was abo

Laura beat herself up for agreeing to let Mira stay with them. She entered her room, sighing in frustration and regretting her actions. For a moment, she thought of going back to renounce her statement. Instead, she changed into something suitable for going out, picked up a few things she would need in her purse, and got ready to leave. Standing by the stairs, she noticed Mrs. Hugh still hadn’t left. Laura stretched her neck forward, listening quietly. “Why are you opposing when she has already agreed? I will not let you stay alone in this house with a woman like her,” Mrs. Hugh continued to argue with Chris. “This is my house, not hers. Besides, I have someone who comes over every day to take care of the house,” Chris replied firmly. “What about when the housekeeper leaves? Who will take care of you then? Either you move back into the family house, or let Mira stay here and look after you,” Mrs. Hugh insisted. Chris stared at her angrily but didn’t want to disrespect her. “Chri

Laura opened her eyes the next morning with a pounding headache. She tried to recall what happened after her conversation with Chris’s mother and Mira, but her memory was blurry. She stood up, quickly freshened up, and tried to ease the aches all over her body. She pulled off her clothes and entered the shower. As she scrubbed her neck, she noticed faint marks and rubbed at them, trying to figure out how they got there. Then the memory of Chris kissing her surfaced. “What!” she exclaimed, shocked as she stared at herself in the mirror. “What did I do yesterday?” she whispered, trying harder to remember, but she couldn’t piece everything together. She finished bathing and came out with a towel wrapped around her. As she stepped out, she suddenly remembered pleading with Chris to consummate with her. Ashamed, she hit her head lightly against the wall. She glanced around—this was her own room, not his. She sighed in relief. “You’ve gone mad, Laura. Totally crazy,” she scolded hersel

The ride home was awkwardly quiet. The two of them sat a few inches apart, tired and already drunk after drinking too much. Laura couldn’t help but fall asleep before they arrived. After tonight, they would start living in the same house, and Laura wondered if what happened tonight would ever be mentioned again as she closed her eyes. Chris tapped her gently when they got to the house and held the car door open for her. Laura staggered out of the car, half-awake, and walked barefoot inside. He picked up her shoes from the car and followed her inside, helping her with the door so she wouldn’t bump into it. He guided her to a seat once they were inside. “Wait here, I’ll get you some water,” he told her and went to the kitchen to prepare honey water. When he returned, she was no longer sitting where he left her. He heard her voice upstairs and followed the sound, calling her name. “Laura, your room is down here. Where are you going?” he asked as he caught up with her and held her h
