Damian Pov

The afternoon sun slanted across the city, turning the glass towers to sheets of white. I stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, my back to the office, a cup of black coffee in my hand.

The coffee had gone cold. I hadn't taken a sip. My thoughts were still caught up in yesterday's conversation with Ariana and the way she'd questioned my reaction.

A knock sounded at the door.

"Come in."

The door opened behind me. I turned, keeping the cup in my hand as Nathan stepped inside

Damian Pov The afternoon sun slanted across the city, turning the glass towers to sheets of white. "Come in." The door opened behind me. I turned, keeping the cup in my hand as Nathan stepped inside. He closed the door and approached the desk. "Good afternoon, sir." I said nodded in response as my eyes moved to the folder in his hand. Nathan stopped in front of the desk and placed it on the surface. "Report." He opened the folder, glanced through the first page, then looked up at me. "Jonathan Hale. Six years with the company, promoted twice. No disciplinary record, no complaints on file. No debts, no outside business." He turned a page. "No girlfriend." I lowered the coffee

Ariana Pov I walked through the front doors and headed straight upstairs. The house was dead silent, the heavy quiet hanging over every single step I took. I was so lucky to have friends like Jonathan, Serena, and Emma who genuinely cared about me—unlike here, where I barely knew if anyone gave a damn. I pushed the bedroom door open with my shoulder, the bouquet rustling against my chest. Damian stood beside the low table, his suit jacket was off, his sleeves rolled twice to his elbows. I stared at him for moment before shutting the door behind me. His eyes snapped up, immediately the door clicked shut his gaze landed on me a suddenely shifted to the bouquet of flower in my hand. it's half past eight and you coming back by this time he said breaking the silence between us and not just that he continued with a bouquet of flower. interesting he said what I'm missing he asked or is their any special occasion at your at the office I don't know about. Ariana Pov "There's not much to know about me," I said, offering him a gentle smile. I tilted my head and looked up at him. "I'm just a jewelry designer." Jonathan laughed, his head tipping back a little. "You didn't just say that," he said, his eyes dancing with amused disbelief. "Just a jewelry designer? Come on, Ariana." "Really. It's nothing much," I murmured, picking up a piece of cookie from my desk and taking a bite. I chewed slowly, my gaze fixed on his. He watched me chew. One corner of his mouth lifted into a slow curve, and he leaned in, resting his elbow on the edge of my desk. His sleeve brushed the glass vase of yellow tulips, and one bright head dipped sideways between us. "Are you really for real?" he asked, searching my face. "Yeah. I don't have much to tell," I said, setting the cookie down and dusting off my fingertips. "I'm just a girl trying to build her life and turn her dreams into reality." "A girl turning her dreams into reality," Jonathan repe

Damian Pov The sound of her steps climbed the stairs and faded. I stayed in my seat. Her chair sat pushed back at an angle, the napkin folded beside a plate she hadn't touched. The chicken she had shoved to the edge was going cold under the candles. "Did I say something wrong?" Vanessa asked, her fingers resting on the stem of her glass. "No." "She left so suddenly." "She's tired." Victoria glanced at the staircase, then at me. She picked up her fork and cut into her food. I looked at the empty chair. Ariana, I... I had gotten that far. Her name had left my mouth, and the rest of the sentence had stayed behind my teeth. The back of her hand had still been pink when I pulled out her chair. She had turned it over so I wouldn't see. "Danny." Vanessa's voice pulled me out of it. Her hand settled on my sleeve. "You've gone quiet." "I'm eating." "You haven't touched anything." I looked down. My fork lay where I had set it. "Something's bothering you," she said, her thumb m

Ariana Pov I was sitting comfortably in the chair on the balcony, my feet tucked beneath me as I scrolled through my phone. The evening breeze brushed against my skin. I leaned back in my chair, closed my eyes, and enjoyed the quiet and cool air. The door to the room slid open behind me. I opened my eyes as Damian stepped onto the balcony. He stood in the doorway for a moment, one hand resting on the frame. I looked away, my thumb moving across the screen again. His footsteps crossed the balcony floor, slow and even, before stopping a few paces from my chair. My right hand rested on the arm of the chair, the back of it still pink where the milk had splashed. I turned it over so the mark faced the cushion. My left hand closed around my wrist, covering the faded marks, and I kept it there. "Ariana." His voice was lower than usual, almost careful. I lifted my eyes from my phone and looked at him. "Yes?" I answered, keeping it brief. "The delay with your materials wasn't an acci

Tessa Pov My phone buzzed for the fourth time in an hour, and I didn't need to look at the screen. The Head of Procurement had been messaging me since the afternoon, each text shorter and more frantic than the last. Please. I need to talk. Pick up. I deleted them one by one as they came, the way I had deleted every message he'd ever sent me. By the time I left the office, the sky had gone dark and the staff parking lot was nearly empty. I crossed it with my bag on my shoulder and my keys in my hand, and stopped short at the sight of a man standing under the last lamp by the gate. His jacket was creased and his tie was gone. His hands went into his pockets and came out again. When he spotted me, he didn't step forward. He just watched me with his jaw set. He had no business being there. Suspended staff were supposed to stay away from the building. I glanced at the security camera over the gate and kept walking. "Not here," I said as I passed him, without turning my head. "The
