Barry sympathized with her, but he was unable to accept her. Not just any man, but Gerald Laverock is the man he was referring to earlier.
Ali looked like a novice, and judging by the innocent expression on her face, he assumed that she was unaware of the risks. Inexperienced women are not Gerald's thing. Worst of all, the man was rough with his women, and if he were to handle this one, he doubted her walking steps would remain as elegant.
"Are you a virgin?" he suddenly asked.
Ali turned red at the question, but she gave a nod.
Barry shook his head, ready to send her away, when his phone rang, and he realized it was his assistant.
"Sir, Gerald's face does not look good; he is the only one without service, and I am afraid he will not accept any other woman," the assistant said nervously.
Barry cursed and looked at Ali again before saying, "Tell Madam Joan I am bringing a new girl."
After hanging up, he asked Ali to follow him. He led her to the top floor, where the big shots were located. Ali was astounded by the club's opulence and sophistication when she first stepped inside.
Meanwhile, at the Laverock mansion, Harriet Laverock, the old lady of the house, played with her teacup while keeping her gaze fixed on the door. Her family could tell she was waiting for someone or something by the impatient look on her face.
A short while later, the head guard of the family entered and gave her a salute. "Did you find her?" the elderly woman asked, glancing at the man.
A smile appeared on the woman's face as the man nodded. She pushed her family away, saying, "Quick all of you out, now. Tell me about her."
Last week, Harriet had a minor mishap at the market when she went for a walk and nobody was around to help her. Suddenly, a girl showed up out of nowhere and saved her. Before assistance arrived, the girl carried the woman on her back while no one else was in the area.
When Harriet awoke later, she searched for the girl but no one appeared to be aware of her existence. The girl was her savior and she couldn't forget what she did. To find her, she dispatched her chief guard to look everywhere.
"She goes by the name, Alice Wayne. Her mother passed away three years ago, and her father, Lucas Wayne, took a second wife. She is going around asking for help to pay for surgery because her brother has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is in the hospital," the guard revealed about Ali.
"Why does she have to foot the bill? What happened to her father?" With a taut frown on her brows, Harriet questioned.
"He does not care for his first wife's children after he married his second wife, and Ali moved out of his house today because he is pressuring her to wed a man who is the same age as him,"
BAMM
"How could he put my savior through that?" Harriet growled, glaring at the security guard..
He was not Lucas, the guard tensed, complaining inaudibly. After calming her nerves, Harriet issued the directive, saying, "Let Cecilia pay the medical bills right away. We will visit her tomorrow."
The guard turned and walked away, but Harriet's rage over Lucas's actions persisted.
Had Ali known that the unidentified woman she rescued would provide assistance, she would not have decided to come and sell her body for cash. It has been said that a patient dog eats the biggest bone and that patience is a virtue.
This is something Ali will later come to realize in the morning. At the moment, though, she is gazing at the woman she never realized she could be in the mirror and appreciating herself. Madam Joan applied her makeup with great care, and as she finished, the older woman could not stop raving about the transformation of Ali's face.
Even when Barry arrived to pick her up, he was fixated on her. Her face was breathtaking, and she looked hot and gorgeous in the dress Madam Joan picked out for her.
If it had not been Gerald that he was dealing with, he would have kept her to himself. He could already picture Gerald's reaction when he sees her.
"Keep in mind to act natural and try to entice him just a little bit. Do not go overboard. If you make a mistake, that brute might not spare you because you are not Lilly. I will send you the five million dollars tomorrow morning if you can win him over tonight. If he kicks you out, then..." He left some words unsaid.
Taking Barry's advice to heart, Ali braced herself for what was ahead. "Anything for Joe," she chanted in her head.
Barry led her through the door and into the private space where the celebration was taking place. It smelled strongly of alcohol, and Ali resisted the urge to poke.
She observed men sitting with their overnight companions and women dancing on the stage, dressed almost entirely in black. But contrary to her thoughts, only a few were fooling around in the room, the rest just sat down drinking and conversing.
All eyes were on her as soon as she entered, and she heard some boys in the room whistling. Barry led her to a man, and she fixed her gaze on him.
He sat in his seat, his gaze fixed on Ali's body, making her conscious and scared.
His aura was no joke. He exerted invisible pressure on people just by sitting there. Had Ali not been adamant about doing this, she would have fled.
Gerald felt a sudden reaction in his body as he observed the woman in front of him. "What are you doing standing there? Are you planning to dance or something?" he asked with a frown.
Barry motioned for Ali to take a seat next to him. After she did, Gerald took her hand and smelled her hair. His frown deepened as he fixed his gaze on her face.
He pointed out, glaring at the two with deadly eyes, "She is not Lilly and she looks inexperienced."
Ali's heart shook, and she immediately stood straight like a rod and shifted away from Charles. "Are you alright?" Charles asked, staring at her with a look of worry. "Uh–yes I am," Ali breathed, looking down at the floor as she didn't want to look at Gerald. Why did he have to walk here at that very moment when Charles caught her? Gerald's eyes shifted to Charles, and the marketing director quickly said. "She slipped, and I caught her." "You should be careful with people you catch. You might end up falling harder than the person," Gerald said. It was a subtle threat, but Charles failed to understand it as he was unaware of the relationship between the new CEO and his newly appointed marketing assistant. Ali knew he was talking about her, even though he didn't spare her a glance. Her heart raced with him just standing there and talking. His aura seemed to have magnified, and she felt like she was a pauper standing before an emperor. A cruel, hot emperor. Charles chuckled afte
The hospital where Dr Wood worked was the biggest hospital in the country, and the hotel where Lilian had the fire accident belonged to an influential tycoon in the country. Whatever transpired in both of these big establishments was definitely not a coincidence. "I will drop by later before going back. I was going to propose to Ali yesterday," Dr Wood said. Mr Wood blinked in surprise at the information. "Oh, do you still–" "I don't care about that father," Dr Wood interrupted his father, knowing what the man wanted to say. He squashed the coffee cup with his palms and stood up, saying, "It's my fault for not paying and asking her to get the remaining. I acted too indifferent." "You didn't. Your brother needed you at that time, our family needed you," Mr Wood stated. His youngest son had somehow gotten involved with a con artist and was swindled a huge amount of money and, if not for his assistance, they would have ended up in the streets. Dr Wood shook his head with a bitte
It appeared that she slept so deeply last night that she failed to hear when he came in, but how did she end up outside? She had never sleepwalked before and would definitely not start that now, so the only explanation was that Gerald had moved her out last night. Everyone had the same conclusion, even though Gerald kept a poker face and acted like an oblivious child. "Did someone die that you women decided to stand at the door with gloomy faces?" Gerald asked, looking at his grandmother. He didn't spare Ali a glance, and it only made Ali feel worse because he was blatantly ignoring her after what he did. "I thought that someone indeed died; otherwise, why would your wife be sleeping on the floor, right outside your room?" Harriet replied unhappily. Gerald's lips quirked up, and he passed a glance at Ali before looking away. "How would I know? She must have crawled out here without realizing it. Her limbs are surprisingly all over the place." He perked Harriet and walked away.
He sighed, feeling a headache form. His grandmother had a way of throwing people into illusions, causing frustrating confusion. "How annoying," he tsked. "Hm, did you say something?" Barry asked, looking back at Gerald. Gerald glanced at him then closed his eyes but as soon as the darkness covered his vision, he saw a certain woman. She looked radiant and breathtakingly enchanting in the white wedding dress. Her naive, black, starry-like eyes and her innocent smile. The way she looked at him when he told her that she had signed a contract with the devil and how she stood her ground to not move during the wedding reception made him ponder if perhaps Ali had a split personality. She wasn't as weak as she appeared to be and seemed to have a mindset that worked differently from others. He couldn't tell if she was a white lotus or a stray cat. Thinking about it now, he realized that her emotions and actions sometimes clashed. Just like when Jared abducted her and he went to save
Gerald stared at Madeline with a cold, calculating smile. The room fell into an eerie silence, as Madeline suddenly turned quiet from shock after seeing the child. Her fear was etched across her face. She could not believe that Gerald had caught a hold of her family. She had painstakingly hidden them away, so how did he find them? She was sure they were safe, and no one would link them to her.Alan, the man who had been roughly dragged into the other room, looked startled and disoriented. His eyes darted around the room, glaring angrily at the men who pinned him to the chair and tied him up. He had been captured when he was returning from his meeting with a client in Mongolia. Madeline's son continued sobbing in the other room, and it brought tears to Madeleine's eyes that slipped down to her shirt. "Gerald, they did nothing wrong to you, I hurt you, please let them go. My son is just six years old," she struggled with the chair helplessly. Gerald pouted his lips and let the silen
Music recommendation: In The End by Linkin Park."Leave it be for now, let me deal with this one first. Have the child and lover moved to the other room. It's been so long I last saw her," Gerald said, and resumed walking. His expression turned frostier even as he walked languidly through the corridor and halted before a steel door. The door was pushed back by William, and as he walked in, his eyes observed the condition of the room sharply, even under the scarce lighting. He was quick to pick out a flying insect in a corner of the room. It was a cockroach."I didn't remember giving you permission to have companions," Gerald said, looking in a particular direction. The light was turned on abruptly, and it shone directly on the face of the girl who sat directly opposite it and in the middle of the room. Her eyes were forced to close because of the light that fell directly on her face. "You didn't come to visit, I was lonely, and they came to keep me company," the girl said. Her voi
Harriet raised a brow, looking at Ali quizzically. "Why are you against it? Is there something wrong with your body? A scar?" Ali shook her head and nodded at the same time. She stared, confused and frustrated at the same time. Harriet tilted her head, her eyes narrowed. "Did Gerald hurt you?" She asked, the air around her turning chilly. Ali's mouth opened and shut as she struggled with herself about whether to tell Harriet about it or not. But seeing as the woman's expression was turning uglier by the second, she decided to tell her. If Harriet could punish Gerald for hurting her, then why would she hold back? She lowered the neck of her collared shirt and showed Harriet the finger marks on her neck. She side-glanced at Harriet and noticed the way the older woman was trying so hard to control her anger. "How dare he lay a finger on you?" She asked through gritted teeth. Ali's face crinkled with a cheerless smile as she said, "It was a misunderstanding. He thought I was tryi
Again? Ali thought, and a frown settled on her face. Was he dumped by his first love? Did she cheat on him with someone else? So a woman was the reason for his refusal to get married and also why he kept treating her like an enemy. She observed Harriet as the older woman's mood turned gloomy. Then Harriet started her story. _______________Gerald had finished his heirship training and had returned to the country. However, he didn't return alone. He brought with him his best friend, Caleb, and a girl, Madeline. Caleb was the illegitimate son of a business mogul in Barcelona. He and Gerald had met at school. Initially, Gerald didn't like Caleb when they met because Caleb was clingy and a troublemaker. He was always cold to him, but Caleb wasn't fazed and kept looking for him, and eventually he won Gerald over. A few years later, when Gerald was attacked by thugs in Hong Kong when he went for a business meeting, he met Madeline. She saved him and hid him in her shabby apartment.
Hello guys, Please note that this note is to inform you that this chapter is intertwined with two scenes. One is where Harriet is giving us a history of Gerald, and the other is what Gerald is doing. Don't get confused. I am going to demarcate them with a line. You'll also know the reason why Gerald hated marriage and really hated Ali, and why he was so cruel and heartless.__________ Gerald walked past the man, his steps turning hasty as he reached the door of the room in no time. "When did he awaken?" Gerald asked, glaring at the doctor."Yesterday, but he was fine until an hour ago," the doctor frantically explained, his gaze darting to and fro between Gerald and the door. The way his body trembled made Gerald glare harder at him. The screams continued, and so did the thudding on the wall. "Where is Nurse Blair?" Gerald asked, taking off his wrist watch, then his jacket. "T—that," the doctor hesitated, his shifty eyes stared at everywhere but Gerald. Gerald's face became unsig
