Nova's POV

I spent the rest of the afternoon reviewing quarterly projections, drafting proposals that would fail or succeed our next development phase and meeting a new intern, Grace.

She was young, maybe twenty-three years old and had bright eyes and that particular kind of anxiety that reminded me of what I used to be, shaking but hungry, desperate to make a space for herself in a world that did not always provide room for women to be hungry.

I wanted to protect that hunger within her, to nourish it as no one had made the time to nourish my own when I started out.

"Never be afraid to ask questions," I told her when we completed the orientation. "The worst you can do is pretend you know something and don't."
