Genesis's POV

The taxi comes to a halt in front of a massive gate and I step down after paying up. I stare at the gate and house number to confirm I'm in the right place. I walk towards the gate and ring the bell by the corner of the wall. A security personnel answers almost immediately. The gate is opened after I've identified myself. The security guy directs me towards the main house and I take the long driveway leading up to it.

The entire house comes into view and all I can say is that it's massive and beautiful. I didn't expect this at all on my way here. I thought it would just be the regular humble family in need of a nanny for their kid but what's before me is far from humble. I ring the door bell and wait for a response. The huge door is opened a minute later by a young lady in uniform. She leads me through the foyer and into the living room and asks that I wait. A middle aged woman walks in and sits opposite me. She appears well dressed and has her hair packed in a tight bun.

“Hello, I'm Miss Ophelia, the house manager. You must be here for the interview for the position of a live-in nanny, am I correct?” she asks

“That’s correct, ma’am” I answer immediately.

“And you are?”

“Genesis Peters” I answer again. She looks down at her tablet and back up at me as though confirming something. I try not to appear tensed and unlock my fingers.

“You're aware this is a live-in job and you're only given Sundays off?” she says without looking up me.

“Yes, I am. It was stated in the email I received from the agency” I stare at her.

“Alright. Any previous experience working as a nanny?” she asks, looking directly at me this time.

“Yes. I've worked as a nanny twice in the past for two families on different occasions. I'm well acquainted with the nature of the job” I respond.

“Okay. There wouldn't be any need for much explanation though. You come highly recommended from the agency and I trust hiring you will not be a mistake” the question sounds more like a statement.

“I would do my best to make sure you do not regret giving me this job” I say, fingers crossed.

“You have had previous experiences in this job but I must say, this one in particular might prove to be a bit difficult. It will demand a lot of your time and patience. Averie is not very easy to deal with” she says with a small smile. I'm guessing Averie to be the name of the child I'll be babysitting.

“That shouldn't be a problem. Like I said earlier, I've had my little experience so I somehow have a way around children” I look at her hopefully. She stares at me for a while without saying a word.

“Alright. You're hired. You do not have a problem with starting right away, do you?” she asks.

I'm shocked by her first statement. I have a job. I try my best to contain my joy. “No, I do not. I can begin right away” I say excitedly.

“Perfect. Your salary package would be sent to your email. You'll be allowed to go home later to bring in the rest of your clothing items. But for now, I need to show you around the house” she says as she stands on her feet and I follow suit. She gives me a tour of the entire house and my quarters as well. Everything seems luxurious and beautiful.

“The right wing of the top floor is restricted to staff. That's Mr Dane’s suite. You can't go in there unless he sends for you” she states. I’m guessing Mr. Dane is my employer. We end up in Averie's room. I walk in to see a very beautiful little girl sprawled on the floor carpet, colouring.

“Averie, I would like to introduce you to someone” Miss Ophelia says as we walk in. The little girl lifts her head up and look at us. She stands up immediately and moves towards Miss Ophelia.

“Averie, this is your new nanny, Miss Genesis” she says to the little girl who only stares at me while holding onto Miss Ophelia's hand.

“Hi, Averie. I'm your new nanny” I say to her but she only looks away. I look to Miss Ophelia and she smiles at me.

“She's a bit cautious with strangers. She'll warm up to you soon” Miss Ophelia says to me but I sense something else. The little girl looks withdrawn. She has a strange look on her face and I can't help but be a bit concerned.

“It's not a problem, Miss Ophelia”

“Alright. I'll let you two get acquainted. You can leave later to bring your stuff back. I'll have the driver take you. I'll be downstairs if you need anything” she says to me. “Be a good girl, baby” she pats Averie’s cheek lightly and with that, she leaves the room. Averie returns back to her colouring and I move closer to her. I drop down to the floor beside her.

“This is beautiful work you have going on here, Averie” I say to her but she totally ignores me. I guess this one might demand a lot. But I'm ready for anything. I need to do all I can to keep this job.

“Can I try it out?” I ask

“Why?” she asks, staring at me weirdly.

“Because I want to show you how good I am at colouring” I reply. She stares at me for a few seconds before handing her colouring pencil to me. I take it from her and intentionally colour wrongly.

“You're doing it all wrong, Miss Genesis” she says with an exasperated sigh.

“No, I'm not. This is the right way to do it” I tell her.

“No, it's not. You said you're good at colouring but this is really bad” she says with an exaggerated eye roll. Okay, she's a sassy little girl. I stifle my laugh.

“How about you show me how instead?” I suggest. She takes the colouring pencil from my hand and begins teaching me. We spend the entire afternoon with her teaching me to colour and me pretending to learn how to. She warms up to me a little bit. I go back home afterwards to grab my few clothing items and true to her word, Miss Ophelia orders a driver to take me and bring me back. I leave a note for my mother, telling her I won't be home until sunday. I receive an email on our way back stating the salary offer. My eyes almost bulge out of their sockets.

“What?!” I yell while staring at my phone. The amount is crazily huge. Way more than what I was expecting. With this, I would be able to pay off my student loans sooner than expected.

“Is everything alright, ma’am?” the driver asks and only them do I remember I have company.

“Yes. Everything is alright” I reply, still in shock.

The entire ride back to the mansion is silent. I settle into my quarters shortly after. It's so comfortable and way bigger than the entire size of the trailer mum and I live in. I settle back on the soft bed after freshening up. I haven't met Mr Dane yet and I'm a bit nervous. I just hope he doesn't find any fault in me. I already like his daughter and I want to be the best nanny she has ever had. I love her fiery personality. She's so confident and smart. I don't remember being that outspoken at her age. I just have a feeling that we would flow well together. I hope so. This job came just at the right time. I'm still mesmerized by the salary amount and I can only be grateful.

Dane’s POVThe lady for the nanny position arrived yesterday. As usual, I inform my security team to run a background check on her like I always do with my domestic staff. I’m very cautious of who I let into my house and most especially, close to my daughter. Ever since her mum left, I've been very particular on who I let close to her. She has rejected all her nannies and we're back here again. I just hope this one doesn't end up like the rest. I know my daughter is struggling with the fact that her mum isn't around anymore. She would always ask me when her mummy is coming home. Back then, I couldn't tell her Melissa left us. I would tell her she went on a long trip. But the questions has reduced a bit these past few months. I had to tell her her mum won’t be coming back anymore. She found a better life somewhere else. I try as much as possible to make her feel loved and accepted but she would always say her mum abandoned her. No lies detected though. She suffered and still suffers n

  • Married To My Daughter's Nanny    Chapter 2

Genesis's POVThe numbers seem to be increasing instead of reducing. I've been sitting at this table making calculations and deductions from my salary to gradually offset my student loans as well as my mother's gambling debt. I watch as my entire salary goes into settling bills and it doesn't even cause a dent to the outstanding bills. I don't even have much left for groceries this week and we're out of it already. I facepalm myself as I sense a brewing headache. I know I can't continue this way. I need a job with good pay. I graduated last year from the University and it's been difficult securing a good job. Most companies are downsizing and can barely afford to pay their current employees, let alone hire new ones. I'm currently working three jobs but the pay is way too small. It barely sustains me for a week after I have made the necessary monthly deductions. I have sent out my résumé to various companies. Some have returned in the negative while others are yet to give a response.

  • Married To My Daughter's Nanny    Chapter 1

Dane’s POV“Alright, everyone. Prepare the documents and ensure to incorporate the necessary adjustments we've made. Have them ready on my desk in two days. Do have a good night rest” I say to my team through my computer screen before ending the zoom call which lasted for over three hours. I check my watch to see it's almost 10pm. I take off my glasses and toss them on the table in my home study. I run my hands through my hair and relax back on my chair. We have a huge deal pending so the team and I have been working tirelessly. I make a mental note to increase their current overtime pay. My phone dings, signalling a message from Ophelia, my housekeeper. I pick it up from the table and click it open. The message reads that my daughter's nanny had just quit. Again. That's the eleventh nanny in two years that has quit in less than two months of working here. For some reason, my daughter is finding it difficult to connect with any of them. They don't last past three months. Averie is no
