"I need to speak with my lawyer.
It's time-sensitive that I do that. Can you please take the cuffs off me," Dexter requested as the cops drove him to the station like a criminal.
No one paid attention to him. The other cops stayed mute as though Dexter never existed. Not even Officer Lucas, who was seated next to Dexter, could utter a word.
"Can someone please say something to me? Please, I need to speak with a lawyer. Perhaps, my Father. He has to know my whereabouts. How long will you all continue to keep me silent? This isn't fair." Dexter cried. He had finally decided to call his Father even though it may be impossible for George to come through for him through this difficult time.
After ignoring him for too long, Officer Lucas finally uttered. "Sorry, sir. You aren't permitted to do that right now.
It's against the law. Unless we decide that, you are not allowed to speak to anyone. I wouldn't want us to argue on this. Are we clear now?"
Officer Lucas ended up breaking Dexter's heart and dashing his hopes just when he thought he wouldn't be spending the night in jail.
"Can you hear yourself right now? Does it ever occur to you that I've got my right as a citizen of the United States of America?" Dexter fumed. Not even his rage was enough to scare the policemen away. They all shared a telling look to mock Dexter.
The laughter messed with Dexter's head and sank right into his skin. He was frustrated, disappointed, and ashamed. He regretted ever speaking up. If he had known they were going to treat him that way, he would have sealed his lips and texted his father secretly.
"I do hope you all are not planning to lock me up without a fair hearing. I might be a jerk, but I know how the law works. I'm not going to let you all take advantage of my situation," Dexter fumed. He was becoming confident again of not spending the night with other inmates.
Unlike the previous time when he got freaked out and nearly peed in his panties immediately after he got arrested.
"Now back to your first question. Does your human rights include an innocent lady? I hope you do know that what you did was public assault?" Officer Lucas reminded Dexter after ignoring him for a few minutes.
"You didn't even bother to find out why I had to hit her. The least you could have done was ask questions. Are you fucking taking sides with the nurse because she's your love interest?" Dexter sparked outrageously.
His retaliation triggered Officer Lucas's anger, who wasted no time punching him in the face.
Dexter caressed his chin in pain. He was unable to fight back because he had been outnumbered. He sobbed quietly and dried his tears.
Dexter hasn't been treated that way before. Not even by his father. He thought the situation was going to be a walk in the park for him. He had no idea that the cops were a thousand steps ahead of him.
"Now listen to me.
I don't care what she did. The only guilty one in this case is you. The least you could have done was to ignore her like the perfect gentleman that you are," Officer Lucas advised. Although, his voice was loud, which made it sound more like a threat.
"And lastly, don't you dare say what you don't know. We have not done with this case and you want to start another? How dumb can you be? How dare you accuse me of being biased because Nurse Elizabeth is my love interest?" Officer Lucas continued ranting.
Pointing his pistol gun to Dexter's head, he said. "Count yourself lucky that I'm not in my worst behavior. I would have blown your fucking brains off,"
It was Dexter against the world.
He was starting to regret his unruly behavior. This was the moment he wished he paid more attention to his father's warning. Perhaps he wouldn't have found himself in this difficult situation.
The only option on his table is Derek, his younger brother since he has ruined his chances with his Father. Just like Dexter's Father, he also had issues with Dexter.
Just last night, he stopped Derek from coming to visit George in the hospital.
Calling Derek to come through for him might be disastrous for Dexter.
At that moment, Dexter was only hoping for a miracle to get past the difficult situation. Derek and his Father were his only hopes. He doesn't even have a friend or someone he could run to in trying times.
"We here now.
Get the fuck out of the vehicle,"
Officer Lucas ordered Dexter with a commanding tone.
Dexter stayed back inside the car.
The cuffs made it difficult for him to step outside. He couldn't seek help, too. After everything that happened, he wasn't certain if Officer Lucas or their other policemen would come to his aid. Everyone had stepped down from the vehicle, leaving Dexter behind.
"Are you deaf?
Didn't you listen to what I just said?" One of the policemen roared.
"My cuffs. They won't let me step outside. I guess I might need some help," Dexter pleaded.
His lips were shaky. He found it difficult to trust his guts. To Dexter, it was a giant risk.
"And you couldn't speak?
Why did you have to wait for so long? Do you think we are here to joke?" Officer Lucas snarled. He hissed, stepped forward, and assisted Dexter out of the car.
Immediately they arrived inside the police station, another cop on duty spotted Dexter from afar and rushed to meet him.
"Dexter Cooper?" He echoed after getting closer to Dexter.
"Sorry, do you know him?"
Officer Lucas asked.
Dexter hid his face In shame as though he knew who the cop was. The policeman might not have uttered a word, and Dexter had already freaked out. His attitude is making everyone guess that his crime might be bigger than a public assault after all.
"What are you scared of? I don't bite. Come on, take the envelope from me and stop acting like a baby already. An officer like you shouldn't be fidgeting. Have you forgotten what I told you about being courageous? You never can tell, it might be your letter of promotion," Lucas said. Romeo saw that as a trick and refused to fall for it. Without hesitation, he went on his knees immediately and pleaded for Lucas forgiveness. "I am sorry for the things I did to you. None of them were intentional. I've learned my lessons now. Please, I don't want to end up like Tony. I deserve a second chance,"The dismissal of Tony still lives rent-free in Romeo's head like a movie. He wouldn't want his situation to be like that. "You don't want to end up like Tony, right? That's quite ambitious if you ask me," Lucas scoffed."I don't know what you are talking about. I can't recall what happened to Tony. Can you please remind me?" "You dismissed him because of Dexter Cooper, sir. Not just that, he als
"He needs to reach out to his Father. His Father is not even aware that he's been arrested," Romeo pleaded. He was ready to scrub both knees on the tiled floor just to prove how serious he was. "Now this is getting more serious than I expected. How much did Dexter pay you to do this for him? Because I mean, you can't go this for a total stranger you know nothing about," Rhoda confronted Romeo with the disturbing question."Excuse me?" Romeo fumed. "What do you take me for? Do you think I'm one of those hungry-looking cops out there who would sell their dignity for money?" "Perhaps, she might be right. No one knows the reason you are doing this," A masculine voice interrupted them from close range. The voice sounded like Lucas. Where Romeo was, he prayed silently and wished it wasn't Lucas. Lucas, so far, has proved to be Romeo's greatest fear ever. He wasn't even confident enough to look into Lucas' eyes and speak to him directly, let alone confront him. "Good evening, Boss. You ar
"I am listening to you Romeo. Since you got here, you haven't said anything worthy of my attention. I just hope I am not wasting my time with you? Because I was doing something significant before you showed up," Rhoda raised the concern. What Rhoda was concerned about was Romeo's lack of confidence. She didn't know him to be this shaky to the extent where he could barely speak fluently to save his life."Of course not. I assure you, you're not gonna regret having this conversation with me, and I am not even kidding," Romeo created the assurance. He paused afterward. Rhoda signaled him to speak further, but he missed the sign. Romeo made it seem like that both placed a bet on the last person to hold his breath for too long."What the fuck do you think you are doing? You've been quiet for some time now. I should have known that you were just wasting my time. What exactly do you want me to do for you? And I do hope it's something I can handle?" Rhoda asked for clarification. Romeo's a
Dexter struggled to keep up with Romeo's tempo. At the same time, he struggled to breathe properly. He hasn't seen anything like that before. The taunting from Romeo got into Dexter's head. But what was he going to do about it? Absolutely nothing! He was willing to endure the present struggle and hope for a better tomorrow. Dexter was quite aware of his numerous tortures in the hands of Jaguar and would rather not go back to that phase anymore. No one has ever inflicted so much pain on Dexter before since he was born. Not even his beloved Father or late mother.Jaguar treated Dexter as though Dexter were his biological son. It was an ugly experience for Dexter. He would give up an arm to forget about it. "Take a look at these bunch of keys. What do they mean to you? Do they ring a bell to you, or do you want me to spell it out so you would understand perfectly well what I am talking about?" Romeo asked, flashing the keys to the cell across Dexter's face. "They're the keys to y
"Welcome to your new cell, Dexter Cooper. I hope you do like it here. What the heck am I saying? Surely, are going to love it. I mean, it's surely better than your Father's palatial mansion, isn't it?" Romeo teased Dexter with a burst of wicked laughter after they arrived at a new cell. Looking at it alone, Dexter hated it. He chose not to say a word about it to avoid getting on Romeo's nerves. . It turns out that the former cell was more attractive and conducive than the new one Romeo brought Dexter to. The only difference there was Jaguar and his boys that made life a living hell for Dexter. Dexter spent lots of time scrutinizing in his new home. He was filled with regret and wished he hadn't wished for a transfer. But the thought of being beaten to death by Jaguar still scares him to death. "What are you going to say about this? You are taking too much time on something that isn't even worth that stress, and I don't like it. Are we going to spend the entire day talking about
"What do you expect me to do about this now? I still can't believe that are seriously seeking for my help. Everything is still a dream to me. Someone should please wake me up from the illusion before I go insane," Romeo said, slapping his chin to be certain he wasn't imagining things that aren't real. He still wasn't convinced about his decision yet. If Romeo was made to decide immediately without thinking about it, he would chose to walk away from the case just like every other cops. Not for once did Romeo liked Dexter. These two has got a lot of history together. Thinking about the nastiest things that Dexter had done in the past is making Romeo have a second guess. "Please, take me to a new cell. I might end up dead once you leave. These guys are threatened to torture me to death. Please come to my rescue. I don't wanna die," Dexter pleaded as hot tears rolled down his eyes. "You wanna be transferred to another cell? Now I see why you're being dealt with. What have you been
