DENVER'S POV
Liam can be every other thing in this life, but he can't be sorry.I know he's trying to be dramatic and I'll make him understand that two can play the game. "No, no, why would you kneel to me?" My fingers caress my eyeballs. "I'm just.... I'm overwhelmed."Gia kicks me from under the table. I know she's trying to understand what's going on here. I'll let her in on the whole drama once we're back to our hotel room."Our father caused a great divide between us, I don't want that to continue. What do you say we put an end to this enmity right here and now?" Liam asks putting a hand out to me. I take the hand."Yes brother. Let's enjoy each other now that we still have the life and time."Liam nods excitedly, lifting his other hand to signal a waiter. "Get me your finest bottle of champagne. We have something huge to celebrate!" Liam and I burst into laughter, completely ignoring Gia and the pompous bitDENVER'S POV Liam can be every other thing in this life, but he can't be sorry. LAURA'S POV I pop two pills of aspirin into my mouth. Heck, I've been having issues sleeping because of the millions of thoughts running through my head about how I'd get what I came to Liam's life for, and now this had to come and make things worse. In five hours, we'll be heading out to meet with Denver. Liam turns to his other side, mouthing something inaudibly in his sleep. I envy the man, I wish I could sleep peacefully through the storm like he always does. Rubbing my itchy eyes, I slip my feet into my flip flops and grab my phone. I need a coffee or something. I don't know what whispered that idea about Denver coming over to Liam but whatever it was, I have a bad feeling about it. Denver's never been good news in my ears. Not to talk down on my husband but I think his brother's smarter. Bringing him down here to try and wrest information from him can be more of a harmful than helpful move. Liam Ju
NERIAH'S POV It's 3:57 when Ethan finally picks me up. He doesn't say a word to me, just opens the door and shuts it again when I'm seated. Denver had already instructed me to do the file transfer in the car so I could hang on the camouflaged flash drive. Even if someone targeted to take it from me, the other flash drive would long be destroyed before the person gets to it. The silence in the car is awkward, especially since Ethan's the only person who's been good to me since I moved to Denver's house. "How have you been?" I clear my throat to get his attention but he's quiet. Unusually quiet. "You must be upset with me. I'm sorry." He keeps his head straight, not sparing me as much as a glance. After about five minutes, he stops the car at a fuel station. "I need to use the loo. I've been stooling the whole day. Wait here." He says, stepping out of the car and hurrying inside the station. I should've sent a message to Denver by now. Shit. Someone knocks at the window almost
DENVER'S POV I already know the content of my father's will...or an idea of what the content would be. But right now, the confirmation of the content is way beyond me knowing that I was made the heir of the Chadwick estate before my father passed. It now has to do with the confirmation of Neriah's life. Every half hour, I glance at my wristwatch to check what time it is. I told Samuel to send me a message when he arrives at the airport and when he meets with Neriah. It's well past 3 pm and I've received none of the messages. "Relax," Gia's hand comes gently on my thigh. I wasn't conscious of the fact that I'd been tapping it incessantly on the floor. We're already several feet above ground so there's nothing I can do. I can't even ask the jet to turn around because I need to be in Atlanta. I sweep her hand off my thigh with my palm. I don't want her to touch me. She went away without an apology for almost ruining a big part of my plan, and then resurfaces one day to say she's b
NERIAH'S POV I don't think my eyes are working perfectly. Denver's at my door...with Gia."What's going on here?" I mutter, rubbing my eyes for thr third time. "This is where you live?" Gia scrunches her nose disgustedly. "You really need a raise. What do you think sweetie?" She smiles sweetly at Denver. He raises his lips dryly and turns back to me. "You have a moment? I need to talk to you.""One minute." I hurry back in to grab a jacket over my tank top. There's no way I'm letting Gia into my house. Not in a million years. "What's going on?" I ask, loudly this time. Gia slides her sunglasses back onto her nose."Maybe we can talk somewhere that's not here?" Denver asks, completely ignoring Gia's attitude. I shrugged, locking my door behind me. Denver drives us to a high class restaurant somewhere in town. "So, what's this meeting about?" I want someone to start talking already because I'm dying of anxiety. "Take a chill pill, princess" Where did Gia suddenly come from? I tho
LAURA'S POV Desperate times require desperate measures. I remember that line from a movie, though I'm not sure which one it was. But as I rock Junior to sleep in my arms, those words keep echoing in my head. I need to do something. Fast. There's no hanging around to look for the ledger, or wait till Liam has a breakthrough with his father's will. The way I look at it now, those options are like chasing a dead end. And I don't want to be caught up at the end of the tunnel with no light waiting for me. There are several routes I've thought of taking, and maybe they'd be the best right now, but definitely not with Montero breathing down my back. I need to have ideas on how to throw him off or else he'll be my biggest problem yet.Junior's snoring softly in my arms when I lay him down into his bed. The nanny's taking a leave today so Liam and I have agreed to stay at home and watch him. It's the best definition of family time we're going to have in a long time. "Hey," Liam's voice
