Author's POV:

There, on the wall of the restaurant, was a picture of Melanie and me when we had won a pizza-eating competition.

“I don't believe it,” I said, looking at the picture. “They hung us up!”

“I don't even remember taking that picture,” Melanie said, a similar green on her face. We stared incredulously at the picture frame. “Damn. I look like a nerd.”

The waitress chuckled. “Since we have two legends in the house, why don't we give you the pizza on the house?” She asked, a smile on her face.

“Really?” I asked. “It's fine. We'll pay.”

“No,” she said, taking the menu, “it's on the house.”

We smiled and watched her go, grins on our faces. I fished out my phone and took a picture of the frame. I smiled, sending it to the group.

Me: guess what I just found.

Jace: no way. Is that you…? And Melanie?

Me: yes way. It's from like five years ago, or four. I can't even remember.

Jaxon: I knew you were a ravenous wolf. You've just been hiding it for so long.

I rolled my eyes, still grinni

Mia's POV:Genevieve was calling! This is what is meant to summon the devil and he appears. I was just thinking about her and she called me.“Hello?” I said, answering it.“Mia, goodness! So if I was dead, you wouldn't have even bothered to find out what was wrong with me.” She complained the instant she heard me.“It's nothing like that. I've just been really busy.” I told her.“Well, me too. I got a job.”“You did?”“Well, not necessarily getting a job but, I made one for myself. I've got a ground team for the agency and I've signed the lease for the place so by mid-month, we should be up and running.” Genevieve explained. I could tell that she was excited about it.“That's amazing. Congratulations.”“Thank you. I just need you to promise me that you'll be there at our opening. Please. I don't have a lot of friends aside from you and the Triplets.” She pleaded.“You don't have any other friends in Lycan Ville. Period.” I corrected.“You're mean.” She said. I almost pictured her pout

Mia's POV:So, the hulking man was twenty-nine.“You don't mean that,” I said to her. “She's your daughter.”“She stopped being my daughter the night she slept with him. She was only sixteen. I tried to put an end to it. He was grooming her but she believed that it was love. She fought with me on it. Even called Child Protection Services.” She said bitterly. “Unless you're here to tell me that she's dead, you should leave.”“What if I told you she's dead?” I asked, trying to gauge her reaction. Her eyes shifted just for a moment before she had that hard look. “Good riddance.” She said coldly, slamming the door shut.I had my answer. She just needed a little more effort to want her daughter again.I moved on to the next kid: Ramirez. He was easier to talk to. Ramirez had been skipping school for weeks because of his family's debt. His parents are omegas and they've been struggling to find jobs.I noted that down to discuss with the Triplets if there was any opening for them anywhere th

Mia's POV:After about an hour of sitting there and watching Zayn work, he came to me, with a napkin over his shoulder and a notepad in his hand.“What would you like to have?” He asked, his tone formal but he sounded like he wanted to kick me out of the place. “You have to order something or you can't stay.”I smiled and stood to my feet. “I was just about to leave. I do have a few questions for you though.” I told him.“Well, questions don’t pay the bills, do they?” he turned on his heels and walked away. “Thank you for coming.”I walked out of the diner and headed back to the pack house. Jackson said hi as I walked into my office. I smiled back and waved. Grabbing one of my bigger bags, I put my laptop in it and a few other documents, my journal, and pens.If Zayn doesn't want to talk to me, I guess I'm just going to be a pest. But, as I reached for the door, I thought against it. I would follow him to work tomorrow and then, I would work there.Today, I was going to try to meet th

Mia's POV:“As much as I'd like to drag you back, I'm not from your school,” I told him.“Then who are you?” He asked. I fished out the ring that was in my shirt and showed it to him. He looked at it. “What the fck is that supposed to explain?”“Language.” I corrected him and then sighed deeply. Jaxon had said only the people who needed to know would know what the ring meant. It wasn't helping right now.Zayn rolled his eyes. “Look, Lady—”“The Triplets sent me,” I said, cutting him off.His eyes widened. “You mean…” he trailed off, looking around to see if anyone was listening to us. “the Alphas?” I nodded. “How the fck does someone like you know them?”“Ow.” I let out. I was tempted to tell him that I was their mate but instead, I said. “How I know them doesn't matter. What matters is that I've been appointed as the Pack's official youth counselor. I'm supposed to mentor kids like you.”I think I must have hit a sore spot because his eyes narrowed into slits and he took a step forwa

Mia's POV:I grinned. “Attractive, isn't it?” I asked. We were staked outside someone's house and yet, here I was freely flirting.“Madly,” Jace asked, matching my grin. We waited a few more minutes before I decided to call it quits.Jace started the car and drove away. “What was the big idea?” He asked.“I wanted to see Zayn's natural environment,” I replied.“You make it sound like you're trying to see how your test subject behaves in their habitat.” He turned the wheel, focusing on the road and I cocked my head. That looked good.“Zayn is not a test subject,” I argued. “He's just a troubled kid who needs a little help.”“Judging from the document I read, I'll say he needs a lot of help,” Jace said, his eyes still on the road. His tone was neutral and matter-of-fact.“That's not helping, you know,” I said.“Oh, shit, I'm so sorry. I was just saying whatever came to mind.” He glanced at me.I was surprised to see that he was checking if he had truly offended me. He was worried. “No,

Mia's POV:I think I cringed the moment I said that. Me and Genevieve were truly opposite sides. I didn't also expect us to become friends. She had asked politely and she was doing just that. It was a little jarring.“You don't know how to drive, do you?” Jace asked, not answering my somewhat rhetorical question. A grin was spreading on his face.I shook my head. “No, I plan to. Now that Genevieve has gifted me an extravagant gift, I can't let it rust in the garage. I need to learn.”“Perfect. I'm free this weekend. You and I can have a few hours of driving lessons.” Jace said, smiling. He'd just taken the opportunity to hang out with me.I smiled, two can play that game. “Well, I guess we can do that. But if I agree, you're going to have to do what I say for the rest of the day.”Jace shrugged, standing to his feet. “It doesn't matter what you ask me to do, I would do it without another thought.”He walked towards the door and opened it. He turned back at me. “I've got to get back to
