Chapter 6
Bruna. I knew I shouldn't have told off July like that. But thinking about Keenan wasn't what I needed at the moment. He was my son, yes, but it had been years that I set eyes on him The sight of him reminded me of the past I tried so much to forget. I didn't want to focus on that. What I wanted right now was to focus on what was at hand. To get close to Caden. Get him to trust me in whatever way possible, get his family to trust me ,make them believe that there was a child growing up in me. And from the looks of things, Caden seemed to be more concerned about the child and would do anything for it. And that was exactly what I wanted to focus on right now. I pulled the blanket off my body and let out a loud yarn. I squinted my eyes at the sunlight hues that entered through the transparent white curtains that shielded the floor-to-ceiling windows. I took my hairband from the nightstand and wore it. I stepped to the bathroom and quickly did my morning routine. By 7:30 AM, I was done with my routine. Caden couldn't go to work without me making his coffee. I had to stand up for that duty. I needed to get close to him, and only by doing things like that, will I be able to get close to him. I made my way down to the kitchen, and just as predicted, there was a maid. She stood in front of the brown granite kitchen island. It looked close to a conference table that could accommodate at least twenty people. Talk of being rich. Well, this wasn't any kind of rich. This was the presidency rich type of thing. "Good Morning, Edith." I greeted the lady as made my way further into the kitchen. She turned away from the black coffee maker and aimed a smile in my direction. "Good morning, dear. Trust you and the baby had a great night." Of course, we did. "Yes, we did." I leaned against the island, the edges pressing against my back, causing a small stick of pain on my lower back. I edged a bit, but made no effort to leave. That only reminded me of how much pain I have gone through to be here. "Uhm, I will be taking over in making Caden's coffee every morning." I finally pushed myself off the island and faced her. "Not only that, but I will also be taking care of everything that has to do with him, like his meals, his clothes...you know, stuff like that." she glanced around and came to stand in front of me. She took my hands in hers. When she finally looked at me, there was a smile on her face. "Thank you so much. I mean, I just had a lot of things to do. I am an old lady and do not have the energy to do these things anymore. " She looked at my hand and adjusted her apron. "I was even thinking of sending in a resignation letter." I blinked at that. But nodded still. It was good that we were on the same page. "Then you should do that." I encouraged. There were a lot of other maids here. Some of them could switch to cooking. With that conclusion being made, I made the coffee just like Edith instructed. Two cups of sugar, a little bit of milk with two slices of toast. I served them in a gold tray and took it up the stairs. He wasn't in his office. So, I made my way to his room. The door was ajar. But I couldn't just go inside. So, I knocked. It took him almost five minutes before he came to the door. He came to the door, only in his black slacks. The waistline hanging on his torso with no belt around it. My eyes moved up to his empty chest. "Done staring?" I gazed up to find his dark green eyes glaring at me with a frown. "Uhmm, good morning, dear husband. I brought your coffee." I choked out a smile. Husband! That was awfully funny. But I kept my cool. "What do you want?" He grunted, stepping inside. I followed behind him since it was quite obvious that, he didn't see what I had in my hands. He picked up a sky-blue shirt from the gray sofa at the center of the room. He took off the hangar and tossed it on the chair before shrugging the shirt on. He lowered his gaze at me. "I asked what you want. I didn't ask you to come inside." He moved to stand in front of his window. The glass acted like a mirror as i could see his reflection through it. And then, there was my pathetic self behind him with a tray in my hands. "I came to serve your coffee." Spotting a glass table opposite the sofa, I moved to keep the coffee on it. "Don't do that again." His stern voice announced as he spun around. My eyes moved up to where his hands were fumbling with his sleeve buttons. Keeping the tray down, I moved to stand in front of him. I grabbed his right hand. I took the button into and fit it into the hole. "I am your wife. I have every right to make your coffee and also make sure that you look just fine before stepping out. You don't have to stop me." Once I was done, I moved up to straightened his tie, but he pushed my hand away. "I only married you because of my mother and the baby you're carrying..." he took his coat off the chair and shrugged it on. "So, do not push your luck." His words sent daggers flying straight to my heart. How dare he say that to me. Did he think he was doing me a favor or something? I had never had anyone serving me food like this. Well, I did until he decided to take her away from me. And he dared say that to me. I wasn't done yet. Because by the time I was done with him, he will be sorry. "Okay," I said and stepped out of the room. Just as I was about to enter my room, I saw Phoebe. It looked like she was going to see her brother because she was coming in my direction. "Ms. Preggy." She called out in a mockery tone as she made her way toward me, a not-so-genuine smile on her face. But I was clearly used to that because I gave those kind of smile too. "Did something happen? Why the sad look, sweetheart?" She stopped in front of me, with folded arms. I didn't answer her because I just wanted her to get over with what she was all about to tell me. "Did my brother find out you have been lying to him and that he is not the father of the child you're carrying?" She pointed a finger to my stomach. The mockery looked in her eyes replaced with a murderous one. My breath hitched. My hands coiled behind me. But I made sure not to show that reaction. "Look, good morning to you too. I don't have time for this." I whirled myself around and left. I have been in my room all day, with nothing to do. It was boring here. I didn't have it in me to do anything. I picked up my phone and contemplated to call July. I usually sent her money from whatever little thing I had so that she could take care of Keenan. I decided not to call and sent her a text instead. "I will look for a way to send you some money before this week runs out." I typed out the message and pressed send. I tossed the phone to the side and threw my back on the bed. My phone immediately beeped. I picked it up and swiped it open. "You need to come see him, Bruna. He is your damn child."BrunaI was lucky to have made it home earlier that day. It was just the guards and the maids at home when I arrived. I learned Marygold had gone to spend some time with her friends. Talk about hanging around rich people. When I stopped at the bus stop, I had to phone Lucas and ask him to drive me home so that it would look like I was with them.I took in a deep breath as my back landed on the king-size bed, dressed in white sheets with different pillows on it. For a first timer in this room, you had think he was a girl with all these pillows on his bed.Well, people could have whatever they want regardless of gender.I couldn't resist the temptation as I climbed onto the bed and brought the duvet over my head. I loved sleeping with my head covered.Caden wasn't here yet. I should have gotten up and fixed his bed before he came back from Lunaria. Hopefully, he didn't recognize me after that look he gave me.No one could until I was done with what I wanted to do.The only people w
CadenI would love to say my eyes were deceiving me. That couldn't be her. She didn't know this side of town, and she couldn't have been here out of a sudden. That girl looked exactly like her. She looked at me with a shocked expression on her face. I didn't dwell much on that as I entered my car and drove off.A lot of people who weren't related often looked like each other. She could be just one of those cases. I drove back to the company wishing that the affected family found peace and comfort. I hadn't been able to meet them after the incident. I had asked around if anyone knew who this family was and how I could meet them, but no one knew about them. And this let me do the only thing I could. Keep the land safe for the said family. The land committee wanted to put it out for auction after the family had disappeared for years. When I got wind of the news, I had to do what I could. Buy the land and keep it for them if they ever want to come back for it. I learned the family
Bruna.I shouldn't have been doing what I was about to do now as it was quite dangerous. Everything could be ruined if anyone recognized me as his wife although I was under disguise. But then, I came prepared. All I wanted was to visit his company based here in Lunaria and gather all the information I could.I stepped out to the main road and tried to flag down a taxi. A couple of taxis passed by without stopping, until the fifth one."Forestgrove." I leaned in and whispered to the taxi driver. His eyes stayed on me for a while. It was like he was debating taking me there, or he was having a talk with himself about what someone like me wanted to do there."I heard that area is under restriction. No citizen is allowed to go there.""I could be a worker. Are you taking me there or not?"It wasn't like I was asking him to take me there for free. I would pay him. All he had to do was his job and not ask me questions. "Get in."I pushed the door open and got inside. I fished out cas
BrunaHe was always the type to talk back at home. But he was always mute in front of the population. This wasn't my first time seeing him like this. This was a part of him that I was trying to uncover. Why was he always like that? He seemed to have gone through something or maybe something happened to him. Was it just something natural? It was like he had social anxiety. It was clear, given how he struggled to make a speech each time he was out. And then, he wanted to run for president. He is always so nervous and sweaty. I had followed him this morning to a conference outside the city.He was up there to address the crowd and was barely able to say a thing. He stopped between words and looked at the crowd. His mother had been whispering words of encouragement to him, telling him he could do it.Looking at him from where I was next to his mother, I knew something was underneath him and I was ready to uncover that, no matter what. It could be something I could use against him.“
Bruna Taking food to his office was not on my to do least nor was it something I planned to do in the long run. However,it was the only option I had to get to his company. I needed to know exactly what he was doing. The kind of thing he was involved in. I couldn't miss any chance that could provide me with some useful information. He didn't talk to me; not a single thank you. I had to leave the food and come back home.Though he didn't say a word to me, I knew for a fact that the moment he comes back home, he will be right by my door, giving me warnings to never visit him at his office ever again, or maybe I could only show up if it involves the baby. I was not here for the baby, I was here for him and I will make sure that I get my hands on anything I could, anything that can implicate him and bring him down to his knees. I want to see him suffer. I want to watch him burn. I want to watch everything he has worked so hard for, burn into ashes. He ruined my life and what I was
Caden.I shouldn't have messed up like that. I left the house with everything in mind to say. Still, I could let go of it when I stood behind that podium. That was something I have been trying to let go, but I couldn't. It kept reoccurring. I stared blankly at the laptop in front of me as my mother's words echoed in my mind.I wasn't about to let what had been in my family for the longest time now be taken away and by a man I didn't know. No one has dared stood up against my family requesting a change because they know it bonged to my family. They knew it couldn't happened and then there was Kendrick Taureb who had suddenly showed up. What had he done for the people to accept to his request?I watched his campaign pictures. He was doing enough to get the votes from the public, going to all the remote places to get all the attention. Majority of the country peoples were in this areas. Most of them will readily agree to him if kept providing them with what he was giving them.I
