Chapter 6

Bruna.

I knew I shouldn't have told off July like that. But thinking about Keenan wasn't what I needed at the moment. He was my son, yes, but it had been years that I set eyes on him

The sight of him reminded me of the past I tried so much to forget. I didn't want to focus on that.

What I wanted right now was to focus on what was at hand. To get close to Caden. Get him to trust me in whatever way possible, get his family to trust me ,make them believe that there was a child growing up in me.

And from the looks of things, Caden seemed to be more concerned about the child and would do anything for it.

And that was exactly what I wanted to focus on right now.

I pulled the blanket off my body and let out a loud yarn. I squinted my eyes at the sunlight hues that entered through the transparent white curtains that shielded the floor-to-ceiling windows.

I took my hairband from the nightstand and wore it.

I stepped to the bathroom and quickly did my morning routine.

By 7:30 AM, I was done with my routine.

Caden couldn't go to work without me making his coffee. I had to stand up for that duty.

I needed to get close to him, and only by doing things like that, will I be able to get close to him.

I made my way down to the kitchen, and just as predicted, there was a maid.

She stood in front of the brown granite kitchen island. It looked close to a conference table that could accommodate at least twenty people.

Talk of being rich. Well, this wasn't any kind of rich. This was the presidency rich type of thing.

"Good Morning, Edith."

I greeted the lady as made my way further into the kitchen.

She turned away from the black coffee maker and aimed a smile in my direction.

"Good morning, dear. Trust you and the baby had a great night."

Of course, we did.

"Yes, we did."

I leaned against the island, the edges pressing against my back, causing a small stick of pain on my lower back.

I edged a bit, but made no effort to leave. That only reminded me of how much pain I have gone through to be here.

"Uhm, I will be taking over in making Caden's coffee every morning."

I finally pushed myself off the island and faced her. "Not only that, but I will also be taking care of everything that has to do with him, like his meals, his clothes...you know, stuff like that."

she glanced around and came to stand in front of me.

She took my hands in hers.

When she finally looked at me, there was a smile on her face.

"Thank you so much. I mean, I just had a lot of things to do. I am an old lady and do not have the energy to do these things anymore. "

She looked at my hand and adjusted her apron. "I was even thinking of sending in a resignation letter."

I blinked at that. But nodded still. It was good that we were on the same page.

"Then you should do that." I encouraged. There were a lot of other maids here. Some of them could switch to cooking.

With that conclusion being made, I made the coffee just like Edith instructed.

Two cups of sugar, a little bit of milk with two slices of toast.

I served them in a gold tray and took it up the stairs.

He wasn't in his office. So, I made my way to his room.

The door was ajar. But I couldn't just go inside. So, I knocked.

It took him almost five minutes before he came to the door.

He came to the door, only in his black slacks. The waistline hanging on his torso with no belt around it.

My eyes moved up to his empty chest.

"Done staring?" I gazed up to find his dark green eyes glaring at me with a frown.

"Uhmm, good morning, dear husband. I brought your coffee." I choked out a smile.

Husband! That was awfully funny. But I kept my cool.

"What do you want?" He grunted, stepping inside. I followed behind him since it was quite obvious that, he didn't see what I had in my hands.

He picked up a sky-blue shirt from the gray sofa at the center of the room.

He took off the hangar and tossed it on the chair before shrugging the shirt on.

He lowered his gaze at me.

"I asked what you want. I didn't ask you to come inside." He moved to stand in front of his window.

The glass acted like a mirror as i could see his reflection through it. And then, there was my pathetic self behind him with a tray in my hands.

"I came to serve your coffee."

Spotting a glass table opposite the sofa, I moved to keep the coffee on it.

"Don't do that again." His stern voice announced as he spun around.

My eyes moved up to where his hands were fumbling with his sleeve buttons.

Keeping the tray down, I moved to stand in front of him.

I grabbed his right hand. I took the button into and fit it into the hole.

"I am your wife. I have every right to make your coffee and also make sure that you look just fine before stepping out. You don't have to stop me."

Once I was done, I moved up to straightened his tie, but he pushed my hand away.

"I only married you because of my mother and the baby you're carrying..." he took his coat off the chair and shrugged it on.

"So, do not push your luck."

His words sent daggers flying straight to my heart. How dare he say that to me.

Did he think he was doing me a favor or something?

I had never had anyone serving me food like this. Well, I did until he decided to take her away from me. And he dared say that to me.

I wasn't done yet. Because by the time I was done with him, he will be sorry.

"Okay," I said and stepped out of the room.

Just as I was about to enter my room, I saw Phoebe. It looked like she was going to see her brother because she was coming in my direction.

"Ms. Preggy." She called out in a mockery tone as she made her way toward me, a not-so-genuine smile on her face.

But I was clearly used to that because I gave those kind of smile too.

"Did something happen? Why the sad look, sweetheart?" She stopped in front of me, with folded arms.

I didn't answer her because I just wanted her to get over with what she was all about to tell me.

"Did my brother find out you have been lying to him and that he is not the father of the child you're carrying?"

She pointed a finger to my stomach. The mockery looked in her eyes replaced with a murderous one.

My breath hitched. My hands coiled behind me. But I made sure not to show that reaction.

"Look, good morning to you too. I don't have time for this." I whirled myself around and left.

I have been in my room all day, with nothing to do. It was boring here. I didn't have it in me to do anything.

I picked up my phone and contemplated to call July.

I usually sent her money from whatever little thing I had so that she could take care of Keenan.

I decided not to call and sent her a text instead.

"I will look for a way to send you some money before this week runs out."

I typed out the message and pressed send.

I tossed the phone to the side and threw my back on the bed.

My phone immediately beeped.

I picked it up and swiped it open.

"You need to come see him, Bruna. He is your damn child."

CadenShe left home yesterday and has yet to return. I called her at 11:00p.m. when everyone was preparing to go to sleep and she hadn't come back. She answered the phone and told me she will be spending the night at her parents place. I told her we had somewhere to be today and should be home before we left. However, it was almost time and she wasn't back yet.I understand the importance of one's family, but she was doing too much right now. She never informed me about her whereabouts, for only for me to call and she starts to give me excuses. It was like she forgot she was married. I checked in with my manager to see that everything was well prepared before we left for the foundation. It was a foundation I had built for children who had no parents and those that had been assaulted in one way or the other and had nowhere to go. Olivia and my mother were with me as we drove to the foundation.Today was going to be a fun day, unlike the others. There would be a lot of activities

BrunaI waited nervously for the doctor to come and tell me exactly what was going on. I have been pacing this hallway for the longest time now.I didn't know what was wrong. I sent a text to Jaana, but she hasn't responded. I didn't even know where she was right now. What she was doing and who she was with. She didn't return my calls. She has been doing this for the longest time now. I remember texting her once. She called and told me never to call nor text her again. I had no idea if she and my father were trying to form a gang against me, given how much they hated me. I knew my father hated me for the fact that he thought I was the one responsible for what happened to my mother. Yet, I didn't understand the reason for Jaana's hate. The door to the ward my father was admitted in, opened. I rushed to the male doctor that was in charge of my father."What is going on? What is wrong with him?" He gazed at me with pity on his face. And I knew that whatever he was about to tell me, w

CadenI didn't know what came over me, but I decided to reply to her messages and even switched to FaceTime when she sounded suspicious of me. I didn't know what she did that for, neither did I know why I wanted to prove that to her. Maybe it was just the daddy instinct in me. The least I could do was to be truthful to my child. I finished the work. I decided to stop by and get some food but it was already late and besides there was food at home. Not a lot of food in that house was made to my taste. I only eat what my mother made. So, I wondered if Bruna had made something like I asked her to, though. I entered the car and drove directly home. As I entered the gates, my mother's car pulled into the garage, followed by Olivia. It looked like they planned it."Brother Caden." Olivia ran into my arms and wrapped them tight around me like she waited her entire trip for this moment.I wrapped my hands around her. It was good to have her home as it was starting to get boring with no one run

BrunaIt's been almost a week after I went to see Alex. He hadn't sent me any information. I paid him to get me information and he hadn't given me anything yet.I just wanted something that I could use against Caden. To show the people that he wasn't really who they thought he was and as such, he couldn't run for president. I just wanted something small that could destroy him. But Alex wasn't making that easy for me.I scrolled through my phone, visited every social media post to look for news of any sort, but I couldn't find anything worth holding on to.I went down to the kitchen to get something. I could just use the phone in the room to call, but I decided to go down myself. My phone chimed in my hands before I made it down the stairs. It was a message notification from Alex. I stopped and clicked on it."There is news that Caden wants to buy a land down here in Lunaria."I rolled my eyes as I tucked the phone away. Buying land wasn't something incriminating, unless it was land th

CadenI have to go down to Lunaria to take a look at the land before I can place a price on it. Benji came up yesterday with his friend. He indeed confirmed that the land belonged to him. He showed me documents with the land titled under his name. First, I had to take a look at it to know what I was paying for. I also had to check if the land was free of any issues that could cause some inconveniences in the future. My hands reached out to the desk and I brought out my phone. It had been a long time since I went on social media to check the latest rumors about me, which I'm sure there should be more than enough now, given the ongoing campaigns. I didn't even care much about that.I tried Facebook. Just a bunch of random photos, videos, and of course a lot of pages had my name on them. There wasn't anything for me to see. Just when I was about to log out, I spotted a reel of a woman holding a baby. The caption read, "What pregnant mothers should avoid."It had over a hundred and eighty

  • Married To The Enemy    The Will of Living

BrunaI couldn't go back to bed, seeing Caden lying on the floor like someone that had lost all will of living. My conscience couldn't let me. I kept tossing and turning on the bed. I got up and pressed my back against the bedpost, my hands folded across my chest.I stared at the door like I would get answers on what to do. However, no clear thoughts came to mind. I stood up, skipping over his sprawling body, and darted to the bathroom. I filled the bathtub with hot water. I added cold water into it. I sent my hand inside to test for the temperature. It was slightly lukewarm. I fished through the cabinets and brought out a green bottle of body wash. The scent of rosemary and mint hit me strong in the nostrils. I inhaled before opening the lid and squirting some inside the water.I made a homogenous mixture of the water, before stepping back to the room. He was now lying on his back, hands stretched out on the floor, legs spread. His black tie was askew. Sweat was dripping from his fac
