Chapter 552

Author: Gu Lingfei
“Wait, aren’t you the substitute driver?”

Serenity was surprised when she recognized Jim.

Jim smiled sheepishly. “I gave your husband my name card and told him he could find me if he needs anything. I can do anything as long as I’m paid.”

Serenity supposed that there was not a smooth stream of business for a substitute driver and that doing other jobs part-time was better than staying idle at home, so she did not suspect that Jim was lying.

“Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me. I’m getting paid to do my job.”

Jim finished speaking and hurriedly carried the sofa out with a colleague.

Jasmine asked casually, “Do you know that person?”

“Yeah, I’ve seen him a few times since he lives in Brynfield. He usually works as a substitute driver. He sent Zachary home twice when the latter got drunk.

“I didn’t know that he had side jobs. I’ll ask for his name card later. We can hire him if we need something done in the future. I think he’s quite reliable.”

“C’mon, I’ll take you to see my apartment,” Sheila said to Alex.“My place is simply decorated. It can’t compare to yours.”She did not need to ask to guess that the money Alex would spend on renovation could probably buy her entire apartment, maybe even more.A young master from the richest family in the city certainly did not lack the money for that.Alex responded with a smile. He followed her out, then locked the door. They were just one floor apart, so they took the stairs instead of the elevator.Sheila explained, “On our floors, there are six units per level. Mine is the largest type on this floor. There are only two units of this same size per floor, and the other four are smaller.“All the other residents on this floor have already moved in. I’m the only one who has somewhere else to stay, so I haven’t officially moved in yet. I just come by occasionally.”Many of the other residents were people who moved to Wiltspoon for work. To make schooling easier for their child

“It’s only slightly larger than your apartment.”Having lived in large villas all his life, Alex did not find this flat particularly spacious.Compared to their old family home, it was even less so.For the average person, though, a penthouse unit was very spacious indeed. Many people dreamed of owning one.“You’re used to living in a big villa, so this apartment probably doesn’t seem that big to you.“Though my family built our own house, the land only measures eight hundred and sixty square feet. When my grandparents bought the land in their middle age, they only bought enough for one shopfront.“Back then, my father and his siblings were all still studying, and the youngest was even still in preschool. But there were many of them, so to live more comfortably, they built several floors, so even when the children grew up, there would be enough space.”Her father and his brothers now each had one floor in that building where they started their families. Later, when they earned t

“There’s a nurse at his clinic who really likes him. Actually, the two of them would be a very suitable match.”Upon hearing such a firm answer from Sheila that she truly would never love Kent, Alex inwardly sighed in relief. He said, “Feelings can’t be forced. If you don’t love him, you just don’t. Making it clear to him is the right thing to do.“Marriage is a lifelong commitment. Don’t settle, and don’t force yourself.“Perhaps it’s because the people in my family are all very devoted to marriage and love, and they all married because they had deep affection for one another. I think you’re very right; a marriage without love as its foundation is hard to sustain.”“Yeah, I genuinely just don’t have any feelings for Kent, and second, I don’t like his family background.”Alex said, “My nana often says that marriage isn’t just about two people. It’s about two families, so the family background is very important.”“I think so too.” Sheila strongly agreed with that.“Dr. Jones, ab

What Kent did or said after returning to his clinic was unknown to Sheila, and she had no desire to know. She truly did not love Kent. She could not accept him, and she did not want to settle. She and Alex only left the clinic after the busy period had passed. The two of them walked toward Westbrooke Gardens.Looking at the long street lined with shops on both sides, Sheila remembered Alex mentioning that this entire street belonged to his family.“Mr. York, how did your family come to buy up a whole street of shopfronts here?“When was it purchased?”Alex replied, “To be honest, I’m not entirely sure about the details. My eldest cousin’s wife is the one managing these properties now. I’ll have to ask her next time I see her.“Some of our family’s shopfronts were acquired when people who owed us money couldn’t repay us and used the properties to settle their debts.”Sheila said, “If that’s the case, then it must have been quite a long time ago. When this area was first develo

“You... could try a little longer and keep pursuing her. If she still doesn’t accept you after some time, then... I’d advise you to give up. She might never fall for you in this lifetime.”She did not tell him to let go immediately. Instead, she encouraged him to persist a while longer.Even though she loved him deeply and his pursuit of Sheila pained her, she still understood him, empathized with him, supported him, and encouraged him.Was this what love meant? As long as he believed it would bring him happiness, as long as it made him happy, she would support him.Sheila had said that there was someone who truly loved him right beside him, and advised him to cherish the person before him instead of wasting his time on her.Mary was indeed very good. She had joined him when he opened the clinic, and over the years, their affinity with each other had only grown. However, she had two younger brothers. Her parents’ income was not high; they did not have any pensions lined up after

With Dr. Jones’s excellent qualifications, how could she possibly accept a family situation like Dr. Levitt’s?It was only because her own family background was somewhat similar to his that she could understand him and tolerate his relatives constantly seeking him out whenever they fell ill. They were the same kind of people.Dr. Levitt’s heart, however, was set on Dr. Jones.Dr. Jones came from a family of doctors. Her entire family was in the medical field with extensive connections.Dr. Levitt’s affection for Dr. Jones might not necessarily be purely about leveraging the Joneses’ network. However, there was no way someone as intelligent as Dr. Jones would not see through it.“Here, you can have this bouquet.”Kent handed Mary the flowers that Sheila had refused. Then, ignoring her surprised expression, he walked back to his seat and began attending to the two patients. The nurse held the bouquet, glanced at Kent, and felt a pang of bitterness in her heart.Kent did not lo
