Austin’s kiss lingered on Lucy’s lips long after he pulled away, heavy and burning, as though he’d carved a vow directly into her trembling heart. Her pulse still raced, unsteady and wild, while her fingers clutched at his shirt like she was afraid he’d vanish if she let go.

For the first time in years, the weight on her chest eased. It wasn’t gone, not completely, Greg’s shadow still lingered, poisoning the air, but Austin’s touch had stolen some of the ache. For the first time, she felt like she wasn’t carrying it all alone.

Then reality crashed back.

Austin’s eyes widened slightly as if he’d only just realized what he’d done. His hands dropped from her, retreating to his sides as though burned. His chest heaved once, sharply.

“Lucy…” His voice cracked, raw and low. “I, God, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have…” He dragged a hand across his face, guilt carving into his features. “I wasn’t supposed to do that.”

Her lips trembled, her mind a storm. The taste of him still lingered, sweet and v

“Greg?” Austin’s tone dropped to steel. “Where?”“Outside,” she whispered, her eyes darting to the shadows of the room as if Greg might step out of them. “Tonight. Watching me. He didn’t have to say a word, Austin. His eyes… they said everything. He promised to bring me down. I know it.”Austin pushed himself up from the sofa, ignoring the weakness in his frame. “You’re sure?”Her gaze snapped to his. “You think I wouldn’t know the man who tore my life apart? Who sent me those divorce papers like I was dirt under his shoe?”His brow furrowed, the muscle in his jaw tightening. “I remember,” he said quietly, voice edged with steel. “Greg didn’t just end it. He wanted to crush you.”Lucy’s throat tightened, her breath shaky. “He did. And he almost succeeded.”Austin’s gaze didn’t waver, steady, piercing. “Tell me.”She swallowed hard. “I loved him, Austin. For three years. I gave him everything. And not just myself, I gave him power. I worked behind the scenes to push him forward, to giv

“Lucy,” Austin said again, his voice breaking the silence like a fragile thread snapping. Her hands trembled at her sides, nails digging into her palms. “Don’t… don’t say my name like that.”He blinked, caught off guard. “Like what?”“Like I’m the only one you see,” she whispered, her chest rising and falling sharply. “Because five minutes ago, she was sitting there, touching you, smiling at you, drinking coffee in your study as if she lives here.”Austin exhaled, dragging a hand across his jaw, his face pale but set. “Ella means nothing.”Lucy’s laugh cracked, hollow and bitter. “Nothing? You smiled at her, Austin. You let her touch you. I saw it. Don’t insult me with nothing.”Austin’s lips curved, mischief sparking in his tired eyes. “Well, well… hello, jealousy. Are you the one standing there glaring at me? Or am I just imagining you, hmm?”Lucy’s mouth dropped open. “Excuse me?” Her voice pitched high, half scandal, half disbelief. He leaned back against the sofa, smirk tugging w

Ella was there.Too close.Perched on the edge of Austin’s sofa, Ella’s silk blouse shimmered in the lamplight, every fold catching the glow as though she had dressed for this very stage. A porcelain cup balanced in her hand, elegant fingers curled around it with practiced grace. The faint swirl of steam lifted between them, carrying the sharp, comforting scent of his favorite blend. But it wasn’t the coffee, nor the blouse, that made Lucy’s stomach twist. It was the way Ella sat. Not with the hesitation of a visitor, but with the quiet confidence of someone who believed she had a claim. Her knees angled toward Austin, her posture open, casual, intimate. She wasn’t simply there; she was rooted, as though she had always belonged in that space.Austin, pale but recovering, didn’t flinch. He didn’t pull back. Instead, he let her hand linger for a heartbeat too long before accepting the cup with a faint smile of gratitude. His lips curved, tired but soft, and that smile, the one Lucy used

The storm outside had not relented. Rain hammered against the mansion windows, thunder rolling like a warning from the heavens. Inside, Austin’s phone buzzed across the nightstand, its glow cutting through the dimly lit bedroom.Lucy reached for it, but Austin’s hand was quicker. He silenced the call and let the screen fade.“They’ve confirmed,” he murmured, his voice low, strained. “The contract meeting is tonight.”Lucy’s brows pinched. “Austin, you’re barely recovered. The doctor said”“I know what the doctor said.” He pushed himself upright, though his body protested. His jaw tightened, determination flickering in his dark eyes. “This deal has been on hold for weeks. If I don’t show, it looks weak. Vulnerable.”She caught his wrist gently, her touch soft but commanding. “And if you go, what then? You’ll collapse in front of them? You’ll hand the press or anyone else, the very proof they’re waiting for, that you’re not invincible?”The silence stretched, charged, until Austin exhal

The storm outside battered the city, rain hammering against the mansion windows like a warning drumbeat. Inside Greg’s office, the air was taut with calm menace. Every breath, every movement was measured, precise, lethal.Vanessa lingered in the corner, arms crossed, jaw tight. She had tried to stop him before, but now she knew it was impossible. He wasn’t just angry. He wasn’t broken. He was alive, and in a way that terrified her. Controlled. Calculated. Predatory.Greg leaned back in his leather chair, phone in hand, scrolling through encrypted messages from a driver he had bribed earlier. “Eyes are in place,” he murmured, voice low and deliberate. “Vendors, contractors… delivery men. Every gate. Every window… monitored.”Vanessa swallowed hard. “Greg… you’re turning her life into a cage. Watching her every move…”“No cage,” he cut in sharply, eyes narrowing. “This is the prelude. Every empire has cracks. Every crack has a seam. I am patient. Calculating. Subtle. And tonight… I have
