Darnell honked his car in front of a huge bamboo gate. A woman peeked through a square peephole before pulling the gate open. The view of the compound opened up to a large vineyard with grapevines lined up in fine rolls. He turned the car ignition off and he and Sasha alighted.

“Welcome to my vineyard,” he announced, wearing a faded yellow shirt with a pair of jeans.

Sasha turned her head around as she viewed the compound. She wore a horizontally striped body-hugging top and a pair of dark-blue

Close to the weekend, Sasha decided to spend some time with herself. For the first time in a long time, and after many years of feeling like she was on survival mode, she was at peace. Not worrying about her future and family’s safety or wondering if she’d ever be taken seriously at a job she pretended to enjoy. Her new found peace urged her to find herself again, and there was no better place to do that than in one of her favorite places in the world—an art gallery. At noon, Paul drove her to the Colorful Wall Gallery where she waltzed around exploring the fine art pieces on the wall. She was simultaneously searching for inspiration for her own gallery which she pictured as a high-profile gallery with paintings by even historical artists. She’d done some research and knew by now that opening a gallery was one thing. Building a consistent customer base was a completely different ball game. She was a nobody in the business. Not even a professional artist with past works to speak for he

When Sasha arrived at the lunch party, she searched for Maya and waved when their eyes met before making her way to her. Seemingly recovering from the situation at home, Maya had decided not to miss any more parties so that the women didn’t start to ask questions. She was sitting in the midst other women as they encouraged a toddler who was learning to walk. Sasha sat next to her, wearing smile on her face. “Is it crazy that I miss this?” Maya asked. “Watching them grow from tiny helpless people to into independent humans. Never gets old.” She turned her face to Sasha. “You’ll see.” Sasha smiled. “You seem so happy today. I love that.” Maya looked away. Guilt was written all over her face. “The baby didn’t make it,” she said. “I made Joshua pay for it. Monetarily. He’ll compensate her for what she went through and more. It’ll help her move on…I hope. He’d make sure she never has to worry about anything ever again.” “That’s good,” Sasha said. “No matter what the circumstance is,

The party turned sour that night for Sasha, Darnell and Maya. After heading back inside Grandfather’s manor, Maya stayed a few minutes before calling it a night. Two days later, Sasha paid her a visit at her and Joshua’s home where it was just her and her three children since she made Joshua move out. She told Sasha that she wasn’t ready to forgive him and hadn’t decided if she wanted to stay in the marriage. It was hard to imagine herself giving up everything she’d built, especially with the sacrifices she had to make, like quitting her career to be a housewife, just for Joshua to cheat on her with his secretary. At the same time, she felt so betrayed that she didn’t know if she could ever forgive him.“It’s always the secretary,” she said and laughed before burst into another round of tears. Her pain hurt Sasha so much that she didn’t dare to bring up Joshua reaching out to her to plead with Maya on his behalf. She would not make him look sorry or have a hand in guilt tripping Maya

  • Married in 14 Days   Chapter Twenty-Five: Infidelity

Darnell’s date was Brenda White, daughter of a well-known politician who was famous for being a social media influencer. She was the first on the list of women Rakeem had brought to him, and he prayed secretly that he didn’t need to go on another date with another woman. She was gorgeous in the long black dress that she filled perfectly as a well-endowed, mid-sized woman. The cowl neckline draped down, exposing her cleavage. Her long wavy hair was a mix of brown and blonde, and her naturally pale skin was richly tanned.“So, what do you do?” he asked her in the middle of their conversation, while they were in his favorite spot at King Hotel’s restaurant.“I’m a model,” she replied after swallowing a fork full of salad. “I also own a clothing line. What about you?”He lifted an eyebrow in surprise. “I own this hotel and a few more. I produce wine as well.”“I don’t even know why I asked. I already know that.” She wiped her mouth with a napkin. “So, let’s skip the small talk. What do yo

When she had nothing else to do on weekends, Sasha loved to enjoy the peaceful ambience of Darnell’s Garden. By now, she’d realized the intentionality behind how he built his home. When she first came here, she judged the mansion for being too plain and without character, with only a fountain, some trees and grass acting as décor on the outside. How could a person with such unlimited amount of money not know how to utilize it well? Now, she’d seen that Darnell had built his home in a way that suited his personality—with everything that added character situated inside, rather than outside. It matched his closed off persona and his needing to keep to himself. She used to wonder what he was like beyond his shell, and after getting a glimpse, she craved more. It was ironic how the people that chose to be mysterious attracted the most nose pokers.Today wasn’t a day for painting, so she decided to read a book instead. She was in the middle of it when she heard his voice from the door.“Hi.

  • Married in 14 Days   Chapter Twenty-Three: Avoiding Mr. King

Why did bad things have to happen to her when she least expected them to? Sasha thought as she parked her car and started making her way into her office building. That night was the first time she’d decided to go skinny-dipping in Darnell’s house, and it happened to be the same night he decided to show up at the pool when she was there. She’d gotten to the pool and taken off her bikini, lowered herself into the cool body of water and swum around as she enjoyed the feel of the water. She pulled herself out when she was done and was about to dry off when her eyes caught sight of the figure standing in front of the door, and she screamed at the top of her lungs. It was days ago and she was still embarrassed by the situation, so much that she’d been avoiding him as much as she could. For some unexpected reason, she cared too much about what he thought of her. Did he think her legs too bow-shaped, her nipples too dark, and her collar bones too prominent? What about her bloated tummy? Was
