He was again deserted, in his office like in his life. It should've been something he's used to but sadly, he wasn't.
Marley was basking in misery unlike he was before Zaphrina showed up. From the moment she walked out the door, for some reason, he felt like she took along a part of him. That part of him he had never known existed before.
After their hampered encounter, he acknowledged the anguish she imposed in him especially after her sad but slightly reassuring confession. For some reason, he despised to think he wasn't the cause of her tears and for some other, he was glad he hadn't really hurt her though he was eager to admit guilty of the perpetration.

One must have thought her resentment had deflated. Alas, it was still there, burning within.
