1. The Curse

Today was the happiest day in the entire Lunarius Kingdom, as their new Alpha King prepared to wed his beloved wife. The ceremony took place deep within the sacred forest. Lanterns carved from glowing crystal stones hung beautifully from the tall branches above, casting a soft silver light across the clearing. White flowers and dark red roses lined the long pathway leading toward the sacred stone altar.

The guests, members of different packs and kingdoms, stood proudly in elegant robes, leather armor, and royal garments decorated with wolf symbols. The air was filled with the sound of drums and flutes.

At the center of the sacred altar stood the Alpha groom himself, King Ragnar, in a black ceremonial outfit lined with silver fur upon his shoulders. Beside him stood his beautiful bride, Aline, dressed in a flowing white gown that trailed softly behind her across the stone pathway. Tiny silver gems decorated the fabric like drops of moonlight while a delicate silver crown rested gently upon her head. Her long veil danced beautifully in the cold wind as she approached the altar, her cheeks glowing with happiness.

Above them, the full moon shone brightly across the dark sky, as though the Moon Goddess herself had come to bless their union. The pack elders slowly formed a sacred circle around the couple while the high priest stepped forward, raising an ancient staff carved from sacred moonwood.

“Do you accept this bond before the Moon Goddess and the kingdom?” the priest asked loudly, his voice echoing through the silent forest.

“We do!” the crowd chanted happily, their voices filled with excitement.

But before the ceremony could continue, a loud voice shouted from the crowd.

“No… I do not.”

A loud gasp spread throughout the gathering as every head turned toward the entrance of the sacred grounds. As everyone watched, a young woman walked angrily toward the altar.

Her long black cloak flowed violently behind her while her silver eyes burned with rage and heartbreak. Dark energy seemed to surround her presence, causing nearby candles to flicker uncontrollably. The moment the elders saw her face, fear flashed across their expressions. Mothers quickly pulled their children closer while several warriors instinctively reached for their weapons.

King Ragnar’s face darkened immediately the moment he saw her.

“Nyra, what are you doing here?” he demanded coldly. “You were banished from this kingdom.”

Nyra stopped a few feet away from the altar, her painful eyes locking onto Ragnar. Tears shimmered down her cheeks.

“So you ended things with me and sent me away simply because I’m a witch?” she shouted angrily, her voice trembling with heartbreak. “Huh? Just to marry this thing?”

She pointed furiously toward Queen Aline, causing the crowd to murmur.

Aline lowered her eyes nervously while Ragnar stepped protectively in front of her.

“Nyra, you know I had no choice,” Ragnar replied angrily. “You used forbidden dark magic. That alone made it impossible for us to marry. And after what you did, you could no longer remain within this kingdom.”

“Impossible?” Nyra laughed bitterly, her laughter echoing loudly through the forest. The sound alone caused several people to flinch while younger children burst into frightened tears.

“You speak of impossible?” Nyra screamed, tears now flowing freely down her face. “Ragnar, you made me fall in love with you. You promised me forever. You held my hands beneath this same moon and swore I would become your queen.”

Her voice broke painfully as she stared at him.

“Do you know the pain I feel watching the man I love stand here marrying someone else?” she whispered.

“Nyra, please…” Ragnar said quietly. “Stop this and leave peacefully.”

Nyra stood silently for several seconds before a twisted smile slowly appeared upon her lips.

“Of course,” she said softly. “I shall leave.”

The crowd sighed in relief.

But then Nyra slowly turned her gaze toward the bride. Her silver eyes darkened completely until they became black. Dark energy began swirling violently around her body.

“But first…” she whispered coldly. “I have a gift for you, my ex-lover.”

Fear instantly spread across the faces of the elders.

“Nyra, don’t!” one elder shouted.

But it was already too late.

Nyra slowly raised her hand toward Queen Aline’s stomach as dark magic crackled around her fingers.

“No son born from this bloodline shall ever truly love a woman,” she declared loudly. “Every heir born from Ragnar’s blood shall become a monster… a destroyer of women… cursed to bring pain and death upon every woman who enters his life!”

The moment the curse left her lips, a violent thunderstrike tore across the sky. The beautiful full moon suddenly disappeared behind dark clouds while powerful winds exploded through the sacred grounds. Guests screamed in fear as candles extinguished instantly around the altar.

Thick black smoke suddenly flowed from Nyra’s glowing eyes before shooting directly toward Queen Aline. The dark magic struck her stomach violently, causing her to scream painfully before collapsing instantly into Ragnar’s arms.

“ALINE!” Ragnar shouted in horror as he caught his unconscious bride.

Ragnar looked up furiously as he held Aline tightly against his chest.

“Nyra, stop this!” he roared.

But Nyra only smiled coldly through her tears.

“Now you shall feel the same pain you gave me,” she whispered bitterly.

And within the blink of an eye, her body dissolved into black smoke and vanished completely.

Two years later…

The entire Lunarius Kingdom overflowed with joy and celebration after the birth of the long-awaited heir to the throne. Throughout the night, the palace halls remained alive with music, as people from every corner of the kingdom gathered to welcome the newborn prince. Large bonfires burned brightly beneath the silver moon while warriors beat their drums loudly in celebration. Women danced around the fire with smiles upon their faces, while children ran excitedly through the crowd, shouting happily.

Inside the royal chamber, Queen Aline rested weakly against the bed. Sweat still covered her forehead from the painful birth, yet tears of happiness filled her eyes as she stared lovingly at the tiny baby wrapped carefully in a blankets. Beside her stood King Ragnar, whose face carried more joy than anyone. His trembling hands gently lifted the newborn child into his arms as though he were holding the most precious treasure in existence. The baby’s small cries echoed softly through the room while the king smiled proudly at his son.

Moments later, King Ragnar stepped out onto the grand palace balcony with the child resting in his arms. The moment the people below saw their king carrying the newborn prince, the entire kingdom erupted into loud cheers. Some fell to their knees in respect while others raised their hands toward the sky, praising the Moon Goddess.

King Ragnar slowly lifted the child high for the entire kingdom to see, his voice filled with pride and emotion.

“He shall be called Lucien,” he declared loudly. “For one day, he shall rule this kingdom with love, strength, and honor.”

The crowd exploded into even louder cheers. Some screamed happily at the top of their lungs while others began dancing wildly around the fires. The warriors struck their drums harder, causing the powerful sound to shake through the air immediately as celebration consumed every corner of Lunarius Kingdom.

But suddenly, the joyful atmosphere changed.

“For the child you carry bears the curse of Nyra.”

A loud, aged voice suddenly echoed through the crowd, causing the drums to stop immediately. The dancing ended at once as silence slowly swallowed the entire gathering. Every head turned toward the old seer sitting quietly upon a wooden stool near the palace entrance. Her cloudy white eyes stared directly at the child in King Ragnar’s arms while the cold wind blew strongly around her black cloak.

King Ragnar’s smile slowly faded.

“What do you mean?” King Ragnar asked.

The old seer released a bitter laugh before struggling painfully to rise to her feet. The crowd moved back in fear as she stepped forward slowly, leaning heavily on her staff.

“Have you forgotten so soon, King Ragnar?” she asked coldly. “The curse Nyra placed upon your bloodline was never broken. Your son now carries that curse within him.”

Queen Aline’s face immediately turned pale with horror. Tears instantly filled her eyes as she stumbled weakly out from the chamber doors, still exhausted from childbirth.

“No… not my son,” she cried painfully, holding tightly onto Ragnar’s arm. “We must break the curse. My Lord, please… do something. He is only an innocent child.”

The old seer stared at the newborn prince with pity before shaking her head slowly.

“No one can break the curse,” she said bitterly. “No power in this kingdom, nor beyond it, can destroy what Nyra created.”

A painful silence filled the air after her words. The joyful smiles that once covered the faces of the people slowly disappeared, replaced with fear, sadness, and sorrow. Some women lowered their heads sadly while others wiped tears from their cheeks.

“But…” the old seer continued softly, causing everyone to look toward her once again. “There is one soul… a soul yet to be born… who holds the power to break the darkness surrounding this child. Until that day comes, the prince shall live bound to this curse.” Give this chapter a title

I quickly turned toward Lucien, who looked completely unbothered by the priest's sudden request for me to speak. At that moment, I wished I had enough courage to walk over and slap some sense into his stubborn head. Just one slap. How could he sit there so calmly after putting me in such an embarrassing situation? He could have at least warned me that I would be expected to address everyone. But then again, I knew better than to even think about raising my hand against the Alpha King. One wrong move and I would probably be back in the iron chamber before I could even regret it. So instead, I could only glare at him for a few seconds before swallowing the words burning on my tongue and turning my attention back to the priest. At least he could have told me beforehand. I would have spent the past few days thinking about what to say, maybe even asking Freya to help me prepare something. Instead, I was sitting there like a frightened rabbit waiting to be thrown into a den of hungry wolves

For what felt like forever, I forgot how to blink. His fingers were still wrapped around my wrist, holding me firmly in place, while his face remained only inches away from mine. The entire hallway seemed to disappear around us, and for those few seconds, it felt as though there was nothing else in the world except Lucien and me standing there. “Stand on your feet,” his cold voice interrupted my thoughts, and I blinked at him several times. Only then did I realize that one of his hands was still holding my waist, keeping me from falling. The realization sent heat rushing to my face, and I immediately pulled away from him, then lowered my head, hoping he wouldn't notice how embarrassed I was. “Are you intentionally bumping into me? Huh?” he asked, and I could feel his eyes fixed on me. I quickly shook my head, but before I could explain myself, he stretched his hand toward me. “Your hand.” I looked at him in surprise. For a moment, I thought he was going to hit me for walking i

Evelyn POVToday was the Harvest Moon Festival. Just thinking about so many people gathering in one place made my stomach tighten. I had never liked crowded places because having too many people staring at me always made me uncomfortable, and the thought of having to sit among hundreds of people while everyone watched me made me want to hide inside my room and refuse to come out. But no matter how much I wished to stay hidden, I knew I couldn't. As the wife of King Lucien and the Queen of this kingdom, I had no choice but to attend the festival beside him, whether I liked it or not.The last time I had seen my husband, Lucien, was on the day he had ordered me to change my dress in front of him. Even though several days had passed since then, the memory still found its way into my mind whenever I least expected it, making my face feel warm all over. Since that day, I hadn't seen him even once. Freya told me he had been extremely busy preparing for the festival, meeting with officials,

After changing back into my dress, Freya helped me put the new dress in the wardrobe. She also reminded me that the festival would be held in a few days. The royal dressmaker never came back to check whether the dress needed any adjustments, but I was almost certain Lucien had given her strict instructions not to return to my chamber. Not that I was surprised. That man seemed to have a problem with everything I did, even something as simple as breathing comfortably in a dress. Not wanting to remain trapped inside my room for the rest of the day, I decided to leave and take a walk around the castle, just as I had been doing almost every day. Walking around was practically the only thing I could do here, and sometimes I wished Lucien would at least allow me to leave the castle grounds and explore the kingdom. But I already knew asking him would be a waste of time. He would never allow it. The thought reminded me of my father, who had never allowed me to leave our palace either because h

Evelyn POVI stared at Lucien in shock, trying to process what he had just said. Did he really mean I should dress right there, in front of him? The moment his words finally sank in, my heart began beating faster. I had never dressed in front of any man before, and if I took my clothes off in front of him, it would be the first time he would see me like that. Just thinking about it made heat spread across my body despite the coldness of the room. My fingers tightened around the dress, trembling slightly as I stood there, caught between fear and nervousness.I stared into his cold eyes for a while before lowering my gaze again. I didn't move from the spot where I stood, secretly hoping he would change his mind and leave me alone. Maybe he would realize how uncomfortable it is. But Lucien remained completely still, his expression giving me no reason to believe he was going to change his mind.“I don't like to repeat myself,” I heard him say coldly. My head jerked up immediately. The door opened, and a male servant walked into the office. He took a few careful steps until he was standing right in front of me, across the table, before lowering his head.“Alpha Lucien,” he greeted me with a bow.I dropped the file onto the table and leaned my back against the chair, resting one hand against my jaw as I stared at the servant standing before me. He looked as though he was waiting for permission to speak, so I gave him exactly what he needed.“Speak,” I said coldly.“Your Majesty, there is a letter from Prince Ezekiel Vane of the Velmora Kingdom. He wishes to attend the festival,” the man said as he placed the sealed letter on my desk. The moment I heard the name, a deep frown settled across my face, and my eyes slowly dropped to the letter sitting in front of me. For several seconds, I simply stared at it, feeling my patience disappear before I had even opened the damn thing. I already knew whatever was written inside would be nothing I wanted to read.
